On sale is this new release tablet from Android with really good specs for a budget tablet under A$140. This is a good option for general use, media playback, light gaming, emulation, for the kids and so forth.

Featuring Android 12 with Google Play, 10.1" 1920x1200 16:10 IPS display, 6GB RAM, 128GB UFS storage (microSD support up to 1TB), UNISOC T606 Octa-core CPU, 6000mAh battery with USB-C, 4G LTE with Dual SIM, 5MP rear camera, 2MP front camera, WiFi ac, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, 3.5mm audio jack, metal body and dual speakers.

Despite having Widevine L1 DRM, this tablet has not been whitelisted by Netflix so playback will be in SD instead of HD. Widevine L1 will still work for Disney+, Prime and YouTube. The other downside is that there's no 4G B28 support.

The selfie camera on that Lenovo from Aldi is 5MP.

        • Thanks @Clear @wisdomtooth! I will check out the Aldi one.

          • @Devil: If you can still find one sitting under the register counter at a rural ALDI somewhere…

  • Does it have display out?

  • Always wondered how people flip this on eBay, as of now unless you live in Singapore doing so is impossible.

But one positive is, if this products useless you can use the time you've spent and sell it off on eBay

  • Anything cheap with a laminated display?

On a side note, my old Teclast P10HD was slow as molasses out of the box and no updates since day 1. I'll check reviews on this one I guess

This or a Samsung a7 lite for $159?

I haven't seen a non-laminated display for years. Laminated displays are standard for Android. Updates still aren't much of a thing. OEMs rather release new tablets than pay the licensing fees to update sadly.

      • So is it better getting an Android tablet or getting a Chromebook these days?

        • Comes down to what you intend on using it for.

          • @Clear: Android apps on a bigger screen. Getting the Play Store on Win11 doesn't sound very safe. I'd have to download scripts, apk files, and other stuff I don't really trust.

Ideally, I'd have Android apps officially running on Win11.

            • @BadGiraffe: Is Bluestacks (https://www.bluestacks.com/) no good? It's basically an android emulator and it's in a virtual box so it should be safe, and it's really easy to use.

              • @MrLimi: It's good. Probably the best alternative. But I was hoping to have apps running natively. That was one of things that made me ditch my Chromebook. Win11 is good for other stuff, which is why I'd like to stick with it… but I really miss my Android apps.

      • Thanks for the insightful reply! no idea that they had to pay to do updates!

  • Will this support Kayo in HD?

  • Thanks for this! Unfortunately it won't arrive in time before I travel. I need 2x small tablets such as these for my kids. Any other recommendations (even locally) that people can suggest? Ideally no more than $150 each :)

    • You won't get anything this good locally.
Aldi had the Lenovo for $199/$150 a couple weeks back.. otherwise just a cheap tablet form JB etc.

  • Hi, I've ordered 1. Just wondering if the M40 Pro case will be compatible?

  • Mine arrived today.

First impressions: Not bad. Can't really complain about the performance using Chrome/Brave or Amazon Prime (the only things I really wanted a tablet for). Build quality is quite a bit better than the previous Teclast M20 I had - and it lasted me years.

My only gripe is I forgot to check if it had a fingerprint reader (it does not) before buying.

Otherwise, for a cheap, more-or-less disposable tablet (no android upgrades == throw away in 18 months), it's not half bad.

    • throw away in 18 months

Does your settings > display crash your settings app?

      • Does your settings > display crash your settings app?

Nope, seems to work fine. Try a factory reset. If it still happens, ask aliexpress for a refund as its faulty.

On a different note, one thing I'm not super-impressed with is the battery life. I've only used it for about 4 hours, and its already down to 65% battery. And that is with the display on fairly low brightness, just web browsing and watching prime.

I'll run the battery all the way down and do a full charge to see if that changes.

      • This happens to me too. Weird.

      • I just received mine today. Doesn't seem to crash in settings> display.
But I was wondering if anyone happens to know how to swap the multitasking button with the back button. I use a Samsung which has them swapped compared to this tablet.

      • Yes, but the only Display setting I need is the screen timeout, which you can set using ADB

    Got mine yesterday.

The screen doesn't go as bright as I would like and the colours seems a bit off. Also no fast charging.

But still happy with it so far.

    • Also happy, but again… no fast charging is a bit of a let down, its kind of expected in 2023
