Grays Non-Warranty Laptops - Worth Taking a Gamble ?

Grays have a lot of auctions for laptops in bulk lots, which have unformatted hard-disks, and no adapters, cables or other accessories.

The description only says that "Power on test passed" & "Limited functions tested". There is no warranty.

Is it worth taking a gamble on buying one of these bulk lots ? My thinking is that if I buy 3 or 4, then at least one of them might be in reasonably acceptable working order ?

I don't mind the surface scratches, and don't really care too much if the battery has a poor life. (I'll mostly be using them plugged-in.)

But, is it likely that Grays are only selling them in bulk lots because they are actually non-functional & have serious issues such as bad sectors, screen problems etc ?

Current bid $110 + buyers premium, for 3 ancient doorstops. What a wood duck!

You can buy a scratched but working and newer laptop for less.

For that price it better have unfinished Star Wars sequel scripts by George Lucas on it or something.

      • Especially the one with the alternate Ending where Luke's Father is Chewbacca

  • There's a huge gaping hole in the underside of the chassis of one of those laptops. All three laptops look like they've seen some action in war-torn Afghanistan and might even have some desert sand in the chassis as a bonus.

Something tells me these laptops are so bad that not even refurb laptop sellers want it. I'd want to visually inspect the laptop at least and test it before bidding on an auction, and I don't think you're given that chance on Greys.

They are ancient. Remember to factor in the buyers premium and extortionate postage if offered. The price is already too high imo.

  • No power bricks either. Better off chancing your luck on ebay.

Grays cant even bother cleaning the laptop. That looks like it lived 10 years in a smoker's room.

    • It's not their job to clean the items. It's an auction job lot, they are sold as is, where is.

Avoid. Their commissions and freight is expensive.
