Replica watches - where to buy?

A lifetime ago when I had little to none adulting life responsibilities I was eyeballing this baume et mercier watch, it was somewhere in the vicinity of $4K and whilst that's stupid money to spend on a watch, and, I'm not even a watch person, it was just one of those things that I really liked and still think about every now and again, these days it's rarely found new and goes for like $15K last time I saw one so yeah I can kiss that dream goodbye.

Anyway, I know you can get replica watches of various brands and such, a mate got a Rolex copy recently and (knowing nothing about them) it looks great but weighs like 11½ feathers combined and feels really odd on the wrist, I don't know how to quite describe the right heft a watch should feel, you know what I mean.

Is there a site that's trust-worthy which sells replicas that's known to also replicate the weight which you can recommend?

  • Does it have to be an actual fake or can it be a homage(the style copied only)? Anyway check through Watchnerds posts just incase you see something you like: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/user/57529/nodes

I've seen some cheap and nasty fakes (in Malaysia) then Ive seen some very high grade fakes. For the money you pay for these higher end fakes rather put your money towards a more established brand that has elements of the watch you are looking for.

    • Yep, quick skim and if you start on the forums listed in that you'll have a good idea of what's available and what not to waste money on.

      Reptime
      Chinatime.

Dhgate - but you get what you pay for.

    • That is a wild read

I would say don't waste your money and don't support the counterfeiters. There are lots of great watches at great prices.

The Hamilton Khaki for example is a nice Swisse made watch for $600.

  • Do you have a picture of it?

I wouldn't go for a fake. It's just not worth it. But something of a nod by a reputable company is likely achievable for sub $500

  • Ugh. Don’t buy a fake, people who you are trying to impress with a fake watch will know it’s fake and the rest won’t care what watch you have.

    Also … it’s a B&M

  • Phil is that you?

A watch has minimal intrinsic value. It’s value is what we attach to it.
If you buy a fake watch, the only person that matters will be disappointed whenever you wear it.
If you really want the real thing, earn and save the money for it and it will mean something to you.

I ought to mention that "showing off" isn't remotely within the realm of consideration, these days I wear a cheap fitbit 1/3 of the week and rest of the times nothing.

Just thought it was easier to find a depository of copies than to list what I want and it being rather niche and having a lot of people suggesting everything that I've no interest in. ie I love curves in a car so no amount of lottery money would I buy a Lambo I love a Porsche, I love minimalism thus no Rolex in history is of any interest.

I hadn't thought too much at time of post and did not consider everything else that others would have responded with.

  • Which Baume & Mercier went from $4k to $15k?

    • One whose seller thinks it’s resale value is like a Rolex

I did have a look but can't find the exact model now sorry, I didn't say the value had increased, simply that the price to buy a new one at time of me searing for one had done so, be that supply vs demand could very well be the case.

https://www.gemnation.com/watches/Baume-Mercier-Hampton-Clas…, let's start with that as a baseline, the 12 and 6 was visible and all other hours was a line, the hands were blue, and there was something else that was blue, it was very minimal and I can't remember the details as it's been a long while since it was for graciously for sale.

All in all, look to anyone else it's probably nothing special, just as I look at a $100k+ Patek Philippe and think: eh, okie. Like I said I'm not even a watch person, but of all the watches I've ever seen in my lifetime that was the one that I fell in love with and nothing else since has made such an impression.

Reminds me of the time i was in a business meeting and customer noticed the vendor wore a Rolex and asked to see it closer, vendor with a red face admitted it being fake :P

I've seen many fakes from the better factories, the materials look nice at first but in the end premium steel/gold on the real watch still looks good after a year or so.

I'd go with a lesser premium brand or not too premium model. Very complicated watches are expensive to fix and service. Simpler Omega 2nd hand can be found for couple of thousand.

Or find a nice Seiko or similar :)

I have a replica Tag Heuer Monaco.
I really like the design but couldn't justify the $10,000 ish price tag
$35 delivered from a china site.
one day whilst wearing it I popped in to the Tag Heuer store near my work to compare it to the legit.
I could only see faint differences - e.g. only says "AUTOMATIC" on the face rather than "AUTOMATIC CHRONOGRAPHY" , also the "cuffs" around the side buttons have minuscule gaps, and aren't slightly beveled . there are probably many other differences that a horologist would pick up on.
The person in the Tag store saw my watch and said "oh , you already have one!"
my response - "yes, but I need something for the weekends"

Other than the above differences - the movement is accurate. it has a nice weight to it . and with the $9,965 difference I could buy more eneloops.

  • I personally disagree with most in this thread.
I think a replica is only worth it if it is a very high quality rep, you will find some that are 1:1 with the authentic watch.
The only other giveaway is if you are buying something well beyond your means, so beware of buying a rep of an AP that retails for $100k if it is not congruent with the rest of your lifestyle/financial situation.

I'd prefer to spend $1k on a 1:1 rep of a nice watch than put that money towards actually buying a $10k+ watch, when it is mostly branding and marketing that allow it to be sold at that price point. This is obviously besides investment pieces.

I dont understand why you would pay thousands on a watch when you can get a smart watch which allows you to do so much. Can you make phone calls on a Rolex?

Had a friend of mine who splurged on a luxury watch and spruiked that it connected via Bluetooth to ensure correct time. I asked him what else it did, he said thats it. I pointed at my watch and said all bluetooth watches do that but this thing can also make phone calls and tell me how fat I am.

Watches are not always about features.

  • Try the markets in Thailand. They seem to have a lot of replicas of everything.
Have you watched Collin Abroadcast on Youtube?
The fakes in Vietnam and China are very fake.

  • Don’t buy fakes. A $500 Seiko Presage has way more in the value, build quality and craftsmanship than a fake watch etc and will last a lifetime.

  • IMO you should try a homage from one of the quality aliexpress sellers rather than an outright fake. San martin, Pagani design, Cronos, etc etc make good quality watches with good seiko movements that look a lot like the more expensive watches without having the actual brand faked on the face. Look up "Just One More Watch" on youtube for lots of reviews on various aliexpress sellers. And beware the rabbit hole that you are going down…..

  • Wow… had no idea B&M watches have climbed so much in price.

I was made redundant from a company just before hitting a milestone which earnt me a $5k credit to spend on a watch. Bought a B&M 10061 Capeland 42mm with some of the redundancy money. Rarely wear it over my smart watch these days.

For the record, i have a fake thai Panerai, its surprisingly good but the movement has fell apart. Agree with everyone above, just get a cool Seiko or an Apple watch.
