UberEATS: Do Drivers Get Punished for Late Deliveries?

Ordered food via Ubereats and it took like 1.5 hours to arrive, stone cold.
The poor delivery person was on bicycle and had at least 3 or 4 stops before mine.
While I feel bad for the rider/driver, totally unhappy with my meal.

Question is, should I complain to ubereats and get some compensation?

Would the driver get punished instead. She was basically set up to fail with so many orders en route.

yeah complain, but its also the riders fault for accepting 4 jobs while on a bike lol

Not necessarily, Uber/Doordash sends you additional delivery trip requests eventhough you are en route to fulfilling your first delivery order.

And drivers can’t really refuse those requests as otherwise their acceptance rate % goes down and they eventually get penalised for it and also they have to take on those short tips on the way as they wouldn’t make enough money otherwise…
Solution : You can pay Uber eats extra (priority delivery) to have your order delivered asap or you can just go pick it up yourself.
Anyhow, I wouldn’t really blame the driver for any of this.

well it is usually the driver's fault, they are the ones doing multiple orders on multiple different apps.
One app fine, when they do menulog/door dash and uber eats, then they need to prioritise a little more.

Okay fair but going by the op’s post it seems like the Uber driver was working additional Uber Eats trips on their way to op’s address..

Don't be worried about "punishment" - they need to know you were unsatisfied. Businesses need feedback

  • Did you get the $5 credit as an Uber One ?

    • Arrived exactly 2 minutes before the limit!

Ubereats is becoming more and more of a joke. A short history of its demise:
    1. Ubereats is awesome! Free delivery, same price as in store. Why doesn't everyone do this?
    2. Delivery fee. Okay sure, makes sense I guess.
    3. Stores increase pricing on Ubereats vs in-store. Probably lost a lot of people here. I definitely reconsidered usage, but still used on occasion.
    4. Service fees - What the actual ….
    5. Uberone - free delivery! yay. But you still have to pay service fees? Remind me again how a service fee is different from a delivery fee???
    6. Pay extra to get your delivery prioritised (otherwise you get some half assed uber-pool style arangement). Great. Like it wasnt already expensive enough.
Today: Increased item cost (vs in store) + delivery fee + service fee + priority fee (so your stuff isnt lukewarm) = $25 for a bubble tea. RIP.

Stores increase pricing on Ubereats vs in-store

This is normally about the point that stores work out that the 30% fee Uber takes is eating all their profit margin.

Remind me again how a service fee is different from a delivery fee

Its drip pricing, ACCC should be all over them as it is illegal here, but asleep at the wheel yet again.

Americians only know drip pricing, so Uber trying to roll it out here to make more money. I could never understand Americians push back about seeing the real price up front like we do, say like a Burger meal here for $25 and that is it, eat, pay, walk out. In the USA instead it is $15 for a burger meal + taxes + 20% tip, you still end up paying $25 for your meal!

    • This is a 100% accurate summary.

I placed my last order somewhere between points 3 and 4.

The only other thing I'd add is that somewhere around the same point, delivery times that were 20 - 30 minutes very quickly became 45 - 60 minutes.

Forgetting all the purely financial elements of the purchasing decision, the convenience factor also went out the window.

Sounds about right, just checked the Uber eats app:
      Total deliveries (Oct-Dec) 2019: 9
      Total deliveries 2020: 40
      Total deliveries 2021: 8
      Total deliveries 2022: 2
      Total deliveries 2023: 0
Pretty sure 2020 was the last time under eats was actually any good before it turned to complete shit..

  • RIP Uber Eats

The poor drivers get paid peanuts . I'm not sure how the car delivery guys survive except for maybe they don't know how to calculate car expenses .

    • -1

or maybe it's the best they can do?

    • There are a lot of either desperate or ignorant car drivers who thinks the only expense involve is petrol. They will deliver 10km for $5 and obviously Uber is taking advantage of them.

  • Regardless of it's the shops fault or the drivers at the end of the day you are paying for food that was cold. Taking the blame for who's fault it is that it's cold out of the equation, are you happy to pay for cold food? If not then lodge a complaint through the app and get a refund.

  • For the record, I don't like the whole tipping thing, especially after the inflated food prices, the delivery fee and the service fee….. but did you tip?

I wonder if drivers here do the same as what I hear in the US and just give the low- or no-tippers the lowest priority.

  • but did you tip?

Why would you tip someone who delivered food stone cold 1.5 hours later? That needs a negative tip.

    • I meant, 'tip' in the app. (It's ridiculous that they ask for the tip in the app before any service has even been provided). From what I have heard and see, it seems like the delivery drivers can see the amount before they actually deliver.

      • Oh sorry, how ridiculous, I've never used these things, wouldn't have imagined that you would before receiving a service. Seems bizarre.

  • The most jobs that Uber Eats can give at the moment is 3. They’ve just started offering triple batching. So doing 4 means he is running another app simultaneously.

Uber Eats does not factor acceptance rate anymore not like when they started. Theres only satisfaction rate now.

I would complain with Uber Eats if I were you,

    • is each stop a another job? or another pick up of food or delivery?
