Down from RRP at $329. Monitors in this range seem to go on sale at around $200-$250, so sub $200 seems like a clear bargain to me. Even bare bones 27 inch Monitors are not usually priced sub $200, not even a decade ago.

Specification.

Refresh rate 60.0
About this item
1800R curved screen
Advanced VA panel for deep blacks
AMD FreeSync for a fluid experience
3000:1 contrast ratio

This is officially a gaming monitor, but likely is subpar for actual gaming.

The price was $159 when I initially checked but I was slow to post. JB Hifi has it on sale for $200. Remember to stack a giftcard and cashback at Shopback to get it at roughly $150

Garbage monitors usually cost MORE than this. Did a search on ebay for example and didn't find a SINGLE 27 inch curved monitor cheaper. And I mean not ONE.

      • -4

Same model as this is available elsewhere for $159

        • Oh link please!

Wait, that includes delivery for that price?

          • +1

            @teereb: https://www.centrecom.com.au/samsung-cf390-27-5ms-freesync-c…

but note I ordered via Amazon late last night and it is expected to be delivered on Monday (this was not a prime deal). So I would go with Amazon all day. After the cashback offers, it will be cheaper than Centrecom. Could work out to be 148$ value. I am not sure if you get the maximum 7% cashback.

            • -2

@rizza: Yes, good idea. Amazon is good for returns if you get one of the faulty ones with the washed out colours like I got.

            • +1

@rizza: Officeworks sells these as well, so Centrecom + 5% price beat is also pretty close price.

            • @rizza: Plus $30 delivery.

              Nah, not cheaper then.

        • -1

Yes at Centre Com… after you stack the Amazon giftcards and cashback, it is less than that…and I didn't even mention if it is you first purchase of an Amazon giftcard via shopback, you get a bonus $2 on top of that.

Amazon by the way is delivering this within 2 days, though the initial estimate stated 10 days.

There is this on ebay https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/234070756810 at $139, which was the only cheaper deal I found on ebay, but that is only if you can click and collect, otherwise it is $239 including delivery.

So yes, you can certainly find better but you will definitely be paying much more.

    • -2

Yes, but a least you won't be stuck with a hunk of junk that belongs in the reject pile.

    • +9

$139 gives you a "free" line on the screen too! LOL!

“Please Note: This Item has a line on the screen, please do not buy it if you are not happy with its condition.”

    • +1

      Yes, great example….

From your link - "Please Note: This Item has a line on the screen, please do not buy it if you are not happy with its condition."

    • Not sure why I was getting downvoted for this. The point was not that people should buy it, but to show beastonroad that, it was the only lower priced deal I could find on the web.

  • -7

Buy one and you will regret it later.

  • -2

Samsung dumping all their faulty panels out here I'd say. After buying two and finding out the hard way.

  • -5

    No usbc

    • +11

      No HDR
      No OLED panel
      No Smart features
      No 4k Panel

      It's a budget monitor, seriously.

      • +4

Only one input (VGA doesn't really count)

        • +2

Wow one input is really weird, no excuse for that really. Luckily for me it is all I need, but they should have at least 2x HDMI.

Still at this price I am happy with it, assuming it is of a similar picture to my current one. If it is below the current one then I messed up. I get it on Monday, we'll see.

    1080p at 27". No thanks.

    • Exactly my thoughts :)

      • This is pretty good, almost exactly what I'm looking for. Thanks

      • is it similar in features and quality to Dell S2721D or better ?

    • I don't think 27 inches is all that big lol. My current monitor is 27 inches at 1080p and I cannot see pixelation. Maybe it is a problem at 32, but I can't see anything odd at 27. It looks the same as my 15 inch display. And I mean up close.

I am trying hard to see pixels but can't see anything jagged. It actually is smooth lol. I really think you mean 32 inches.

    • I prefer 1080 on a 32". Perfect for my ageing eyes.

  • +3

Why does a 27" screen need a curve? It's really not that wide.

    • probably cause it was made in 2017 and it was the fancy thing to do then

  • Hmm I think one might need higher refresh rate if playing games.

  • +1

it is good, I have 2 of them using from poor 3 yrs

  • past 3 yrs

  • Would this be a good monitor for light users eg just watching movies and dramas, browsing webpages and playing basic games like solitaire? Thanks in advance :)

  • probably paying $100 to have them ship this to Australia lol

  • Yikes! 27" 1080p 60Hz and curved? Hardest of passes

    • Can you suggest one that is Sub 200 that is not for gaming? so far I cannot find anything. One guy recommended one, but it's 24 inches….
It seems like at this price point you really don't get better than this lol. I am seeing ones at 70hz but I doubt that is worth the hassle.

  • 27" @1080p60hz, VA and it's curved? Why would anyone buy this trash.

AOC24g2, one of the best budget 1080p 144hz IPS monitors courtesy of HardwareUnboxed is an extra 36 bucks and is miles ahead of this.

Not everything that goes on a sale from an extremely inflated RRP is a deal.

    • -1

Why do you need 144hz if you are not gaming?

      • +1

Because it's smoother in general? Even phones come standard with 120hz or higher. Paying nearly the same amount on a much more inferior product is wild to me.

        • Ok I am returning it to buy the one you suggested. The screen actually suits my needs and has no issues for me (I am using it right now). But maybe it is a case of ignorance where I have not experienced something better. I will buy the one you suggested to see if it makes a perceivable difference for non gaming. Hopefully you are right and I have not wasted a trip to the LPO.

    • Wait I just realised you suggested a 24 inch monitor in comparison…..

  • So the monitor just arrived in approximately 24 hours from dispatch, making this probably the fastest delivery I have had in Australia. Even faster than Amazon prime.

Verdict so far. Well people throw around specs like Americans throw out sports stats. Not every spec is really all that meaningful to the user

    1) There is no pixelation on 1080p at 27 inches. This is the second monitor I have had which confirms it. There is a reason it is very common.
    2) If you are not gaming, then 144hz is really pointless. Moreover, your computer hardware will NOT display 144hz if it is not gaming gear in the first instance.
    3) The weirdest thing so far is not the curvature…which actually seems to have its benefits even at this size…but the tilt of the monitor (which so far it seems I cannot adjust…maybe I will buy a monitor arm). The tilt combined with the curve is what creates a weird distortion.

I do all of my gaming at 120hz Mini LED on XBSX. If you need gaming then buy for that, I just don't see the point in paying extra for something that you do not actually use.

So as someone who is using this right now. Yes I do recommend it (Not for gaming), but I recommend buying a monitor arm. The picture quality does not seem better than the Philips 284E5QHAD that was my previous monitor, but it seems to not be worse either. I.e. on par with a budget to higher low budget monitor.

    • 1) Depends entirely on the distance, under 1 meter away 27" is much more noticeable at 1080p
      2) Even 6 year old igpus can do 1080p 144hz for general desktop non-gaming use, I have no clue what you're talking about. Higher refresh rate is very obvious on your monitor even when I'm just scrolling pages. Lots in here can attest to high refresh rates for normal usage.

Colour accuracy isn't great which isn't a surprise since it's a VA panel. Turns out specs mean a thing.
RTings review of 24g2 for comparison.

No adjustable stand means you'll have to spend another $30 on an arm. It's not worth it for 6 year old hardware, monitor tech has long since moved on.

Even if you don't care about higher refresh rate, quality 4k monitors are very cheap these days.

      • If you check any computer review/info website, they all state that refresh rates at standard 60hz are non problematic for non gaming uses.

        https://www.howtogeek.com/405903/what-is-a-monitors-response…
        https://www.gadgetreview.com/refresh-rate-vs-response-time

and from experience, that advise stacks up.

As for response time, the monitor here is 5ms which is also within the normal range
        https://www.cgdirector.com/monitor-guide-refresh-rates-respo…

So the usage is actually normal range, and from the price research I have done, you need to spend $100 more to get better. Even the listing you provided is out of stock because that price range is not common. No they really aren't as cheap as you suggest. The monitors you describe are price point $250-$350 and very rarely $200.

The monitor here which according to the experts is normal range outside of gaming, I ended up paying $150. So I think it is a bit of stretch to say it is wild to pay $100 more for features that I do not need. I will never game on the monitor lol. I game on my TV. The only time I have ever noticed (as in it bothered me etc.) latency on a screen of any sort was when playing Assassins Valhalla on my old Sony with a 60hz standard I suppose.

There really is no great revolution that is going to happen in 6 years time lol. Much of that is negligible. 8K gaming for example, many experts believe is not even perceivable by the human eye. I shoot photography and videography and believe it or not, my go to resolution is 720p! (I shoot to view, not for clients) Why? Well apart from low light conditions or when I want high contrast, the file size to quality ratio is the best for me. 1080p I reserve for specific videos where I want to see a fine detail around a low lit object. 4K, don't get me started. Relative to the improvement in quality, 4K is a waste of space for what I shoot. I have never shot a 4K video and thought, wow, this is a game changer, worth the 2gb extra.

Sure if I can find a monitor for $200 with a super fast response time or crazy resolution then I will bite (which I still haven't), but otherwise it is like paying for a lot of stuff that I don't need.

        • As for response time, the monitor here is 5ms which is also within the normal range

If you actually knew anything about monitors you'd know 5ms would be impossible for a 60hz screen that isn't oled (or a crt but it's not early 2000s). The monitor here is 14ms which is basically standard for 60hz monitors. 1000ms/60hz= 16.6ms (monitors like this one can get slightly lower depending on tuning from factory).

This is what 60hz looks like with text (not gaming)
This is what 144hz looks like with text

If you can't tell the difference you're blind.

The 144hz aoc24g2 that I mentioned is in stock for 199 at msy The Samsung one here with an arm/stand will be the same price. The price of going to the optometrist to get your eyes checked is a different story however.

As I also said, if you wanted 4k60 that Philips monitor goes in stock every month already for the same 200ish price. Paying 170 (before even factoring an extra arm!) for a 27" 1080p 60hz monitor is crazy but it's obvious that no fact will convince you at this point.
