Best Solar Feed in (SA) ? + Other Perks You Might Have Seen (Sign Ups / Battery Bonus / EV Bonus etc)

Just looking through the energy comparison websites for a decent feed in. Noticed none of them factor in bonus offers. Also, Lumo had a display in our local mall, and the rates they were offering dont appear on any comparison site.

Best feed in I have found has been:

Simply Energy - 15c/kwh, but the details around eligible battery systems (and what they leech from them is unclear).

10c/kwh with Ovo (capped at 4000kwh/ yr), but a high day rate. Also a $10/ month sign on bonus.

Sumo pay a flat 8c. The others are teared at 10c for the first 14kwh, then 5c or 1c thereafter etc.

AGL have a $60/quarter credit if you own an EV So basically covers the day charge @ approx $1.50 per day credit.

Discovery Energy were great, but seem to be imploding (25c/kwh wasnt sustainable).

Just wondering if anyone has found anything new pop up lately?

  • Best deal is to get a Time Machine and feed in years ago.

    • Hmmm…bending space and time or finding a decent feed in tariff.. getting similar in difficulty.

We are part of the AGL VPP until Dec this year at which point we can switch without penalty. If there is a local brown out they suck out of our battery. They then restore it to the same charge level, but of course we pay the higher incoming rate. Unless you are watching an ap it's hard to know they are taking it. They do show how much they have used as part of VPP on webpage but I don't look often and when I have it was $50 a quarter max. We got a 13.3kWh Powerwall 2 for $4400 which seems to be a good deal and we are able to switch soon enough (5 year contact). Having said that we were already with AGL prior to battery install anyway

Beware of any retailer offering very high FITs nowadays. The supply and daily tariff charges are also a lot higher. They're not worth it unless you have >8kW system. The best return now is definitely being able to use as much of your own solar as possible.

    • Yeah day rates are normally up 30 cents a day, with a difference in feed in of say 4c/ kWh. So 7.5kwh export to break even. We export around 30kwh per day.

    • Some retailers offer high FITs with a very small daily limit. Any excess will be offered very low rate.
