This is probably been mentioned before but do you guys own detolf cabinets ikea and what do you display on them.
I have had mine about 9 years now and have moved three times during this time not even dismantling them just moving them as is lying flat.
I read horror stories about glass explosions etc and got hit scared but then said have had for years no issues and that tempered glass was really strong.
Some people decided to get acrylic shelf’s cut as stronger and some added clips to strengthen glass.
Did you guys to either?
I have 10 of the black and brown ones which Ikea stopped selling few years back which is annoying.
My average shelf can have up to 5kg of weight on it or a shelf can have multiple items of similar weight at a guess.
I sometimes have the heavier items at the very bottom shelf and the very top of the detolf sometimes over the 5kg.
Touch wood nothing has happened or had issues and the weight of these things in my detolf doe’s worry tne at times.
The ones on the very top of detolf more.
The reason I bring this up again I needed to display more stuff so sent to IKEA few days back did not look at the display ones just grabbed two yes only white as options now which I was aware of.
But when I was making them up at the very end after doing both I get the shelves and said to myself these glass shelves look thin.
Went to check my older ones and glass was thicker I was like not only are the prices way more they only offer one colour but now the shelves are thinner.
I went looking online as could not find any info on ikea site the weight was for each shelf.
I read the old ones was 13lb the new thinner ones are 8lb I was like bo way.
Had I know this I probably would have shopped around for something stronger.
I have no idea if fantastic furniture ones are stronger and more sturdy they have similar size ones and one double the size.
Maybe they would have been a better choice but more expensive also.
As my items can be of weight possible up to 5 kg or average more 4kg just depends on item I starting to think this IKEA one is not really suited and i just purchased two of them as well not knowing the weight each shelf takes is much less than used to be.
If it was not a worry on my older ones it sure is these newer ones.
Did you guys make improvements to the IKEA ones and if so what did you do.
Some of the items I have one them are very limited and even low in numbers so having them damaged is last thing I need.
This got me thinking years ago now this new thinner glass shelves they use now is crazy.
It seems ikea are charging more for lesser quality these days.
I don't have any Detolf but yes this is correct.
I have heard from others including people on ozbargain that IKEA quality has gone down and prices have gone up.
I thought the drop in quality was just recent but I was corrected by others saying it happened years ago. Also I noticed recent price jacks of most products a year ago. The more expensive ones have gone up by $150 to $200, and as you can expect are not high quality products like some products IKEA was selling at a time.
