IKEA Huge Price Increases

Anyone else notice the price increases?

The following products I have watched go up in price are the standing desks. The Idasen and Uppspel.

I was first looking at the "Gaming products" back when the Asus Rog x IKEA announcement was made, and I swear the price for both Uppspel sit stand desks started with a $7XX. The only reference I can find is for the smaller 140cm Uppspel which was $719 on release and it just went up to $899.
I swear the larger 180cm Uppspel was $799, but now it's $999. I swear I saw it go up from $799 to $899 before it went up to $999 just recently.

The 160cm Idasen sit stand was also around $849 previously and I saw it go up to $899 and now it just went up to $949. I have also watched the "frame only" options for all these desks go up similarly in price.

So that's a $200 price hike on these products.

One more product I have watched go up and now down a bit was the Matchspel chair. It was originally $249. Then I saw it go up to $349, now it's $299.

Anyone else noticed any other IKEA products with huge price jumps?

Yes, noticble price hike. Eg. Kallax insert box used to be $5, now it's $7. Yes, yes, only $2 but that's a 40% increase.

$1 hotdogs are now $1.50 (probably a silly example to use).. Yes, yes only $0.50 but that's 50% increase.

I too have noticed many other things I previously bought are now in that 40%-ish price hike. Ikea quality is questionable to start with, but now potentially overpriced cheap-cheap quality.

    :(

    • Good of you to share those prices.
The examples I gave were $200 price hike, but I guess % price hike is less than the hotdog! lol.
I think 50% increase on hotdogs is quite a big hike.

    • $1 hotdogs are now $1.50

What?? It's time to protest! 😊

I actually would've thought that they'd keep it at a $1 as their "signature" kinda thing.

$1.5 hotdog at costco = same as Ikea but you get a drink and extra topping choice of onions

Does OP understand what inflation is?

Does OP understand the impact of a falling AUD?

Does OP understand why interest rates are going up?

With the media and everyone complaining about the cost of living and everything going up these days youd think OP was living inside a shell.

      By the way dear OP.
Consider yourself lucky the items were in stock because we have worlwide supply chain issues as well

      • Dont think OP was asking why, he simply pointed out that the items that now costs more than before. And ask if others notice the same?

50cents may not affect one's decision on the hotdog but $200 extra for a desk is really quite a lot more than before (Well at least it would affect my wife's decision making and not let me have a sit/stand desk anymore if it now costs $200 more than before 😰)

        • yes and my post explains everything in case OP doesnt follow the news

  • Bought UTESPELARE desk in May for $229. Now $249. Highly recommend it by the way.

MATCHSPEL chair was $249 and now $299

$15 shower hanger is now $19

    https://www.ikea.com/au/en/p/krokfjorden-shower-hanger-two-t…

    $6 bath mat now $10

    https://www.ikea.com/au/en/p/toftbo-bath-mat-grey-white-mela…

$20 power extension socket still the same price

    https://www.ikea.com/au/en/p/koppla-6-way-socket-earthed-whi…

Guess that's global inflation for you.

    • Thanks.

Yeah I guess it's affecting all items not just standing desks.

Also went recently to buy some cheap items like a memory foam neck pillow and tablet holder etc. And I swear at the time when I was picking them I thought, they seem a little more expensive than I expected. But I couldn't really prove to myself or remember what they were previously priced at.

      • Yep, my fav gel pillow has gone up by $10 too.

        https://www.ikea.com/au/en/p/klubbsporre-ergonomic-pillow-si…

        • No price history checker for IKEA =*(

I am currently scouring ozbargain search results to find what the Idasen was originally priced at lol.

Also finding a lot of comments with people dismissing the Idasen because they think it has no preset height memory using the buttons. I guess appearances/marketing does matter because you can use presets with the Idasen, you just have to use the App once to program them then you hold down either of the arrow keys to trigger a preset height.
I guess IKEA decided the "minimalist" appearance of just having two buttons was important, but a tonne of people are thinking that it means the desk only has manual up/down function.

          • @harshbdmmaster718: IKEA doesn't do referral affiliate links so no real incentive for someone to set one up if they can't make money off it I guess.

Shockingly the iconic BILLY series has gone up from $99 to $119 too. That's a classic shelf system that's been available for over 40 years and massively popular.

            https://www.ikea.com/au/en/p/billy-bookcase-white-10351568/

            • @Hybroid: Wow. Seems like price increases are on all items. Even the $1 hotdog got a price hike.

              • @harshbdmmaster718: With regard to the IDÅSEN, while it looks like a nifty feature, you're paying $700 over the UTESPELARE for that functionality.

UTESPELARE has the same size desk space, convenient cable management and can be manually height adjusted too in 10 mins (2 bolts per leg).

Unless you have multiple people using the desk constantly, save your $700 for something else.

                • @Hybroid: Ok I found a kind of reference to the Idasen sit stand Frame only price. Apparently it was $650 ($649) and now it's currently $790.
Also 120cm Idasen sit stand was apparently $750 ($749) and it's currently $899.

I checked out the Utespelare and yes it's adjustable height but I think a big difference from the sit stand function of the Idasen.

I was looking at the Frame only options for all of IKEA's sit stands and months ago I concluded the Trotten sit stand frame for $259 was the best value with 10 years warranty and I would combine it with a laminate panel from bunnings. I don't want those hollow core tabletops that come with IKEA desks.

By the way there is a funny video I found where someone who just built their Trotten sit stand use a Ryobi electric screwdriver (the wand shaped one) to raise and lower it lol. Just required a correct sized hex bit on the end of the screwdriver. Started giving me ideas for a more permanent solution (e.g. corded electric wand screwdriver with quiet motor).

                  • @harshbdmmaster718: It's worse. I have the 120cm IDASEN desk. I found my receipt.
                    The 120cm top was $99
                    The frame was $650
                    Total $749
I bought this in June 2021.

Of course, I am completely happy with it. The underlying mechanism is by Linak. If you download the Linak Desk Control app, you can connect your phone via Bluetooth. You can set up to three memory points. As you raise or lower the desk through these points, it will pause. I've set heights for my sitting and my standing position.

                    • @xylarr: "The 120cm top was $99
                      The frame was $650
                      Total $749"

Yeah that lines up with the second line of my previous comment, 120cm Idasen sit stand desk was $749. I now read it again and should have made it more clear I was talking about the 120cm sit stand DESK not frame only.
$649 price in the first line of my comment above is for the 160cm frame only.

and covid! and climate change too!!!

      • Neither, thank the Government's stupidity for shutting down the economy. This is just the beginning.

I don't think they started it

I've seen price increases earlier in the year on Billy, Pax and Komplement so I'd say it's across the board. Logistics costs are still high and probably won't ever return to pre covid levels so suppliers are going to pass it on. On top of the price increases there's also stock delays if something is sold out. Waited 5 months for one item to come back into stock. I've noticed the same at work. Suppliers are sold out for months on end so restocks take forever so everyone tries ordering more to cover themselves for longer which just compounds the situation.

  • We purchased the slatorp couch this time last year for $1499 and it's now $1899.

  • +1

Luckily, they still give a $10 Welcome Voucher (that would offset a tiny bit of the huge increases! lol)

    • Depends on what you are buying. I think it's only worth it to go back now if they offer the $1X off $120 spend, $2X off $250 spend, $5X off $500 spend like they did a few months ago.

I think this was it https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/693252 the highest one was $70 off $700. 10% off with all of them though.

I used the $25 off $250 for some bed toppers because the old egg carton type foam ones I had were breaking apart. I also heard these X off XX offers can be used multiple times in separate transactions, once per day I think was the limit. So was also considering the Trotten sit stand frame only which was $259 so $25 off might offset the price rise. Actually I think the Trotten sit stand frame is the one thing that hasn't gone up in price since the last time I went.

      • the highest one was $70 off $700.

That was the one I used. Split my purchase into 3 lots so I could use it 3 times then used the quarterly and birthday $10 vouchers on the few bits that were out of stock since Apr until a week ago.

        • Once per day limit though on the $70 off $700 right?

          • @harshbdmmaster718: Don't know, I put 2 through on the same day and no one said anything, 3rd was about a week later when another piece came back into stock.

            • @apsilon: Hmm seems to work like the previous $10 off no minimum spend coupons then. I ordered something online about a year ago, forgot to add something cheap. So I went through checkout again with a $12 item and tried the $10 off coupon code again and it applied. Still had to pay delivery but it was cheap because the item was so light weight I was just happy that the code worked twice. I think if I needed another item it would probably apply a third time.

Last time I used the $10 off $50 minimum spend coupon though I was told at the checkout that the code was a "unique code" so not sure if that will still work multiple times and not sure if it will work in store.

Anyway good to know I can split some purchases like 2x $25 off $250.

  • Yeah, I was keeping an eye on the single induction hob and it's gone up by $10 to $69

  • I guess the increase in shipping prices (amongst other things) couldn't be absorbed any longer.

  • Bookshelf symfonisk was 149. Now 199

  • IKEA signaled a significant change to pricing at the end of last year. See here

  • Does it mean its the end for ikea?

Wow our $899 dining table is now $1299 😮

The increased prices dont seem to change the carpark being as full as usual the other day. They are likely still a value proposition compared to other retailers - who have possibly hiked prices as well.

I'm waiting to see these interest rate rises easing demand….

      Window shopping?

      • I would, but they don’t sell windows.😁
Actually did shop there. Being a tight@rse, used my wife’s $10 gift voucher to offset an outdoor cushion purchase……on the way to the beach to avoid wasting fuel going there….

  • This is a great example of economic illiteracy that's so pervasive in society. The PPI Producer Price Index of the countries all these products are made is through the roof! Why? Because idiots let Governments worldwide shutdown the global economy, Central Bank's printed trillions upon trillions, and now we're heading into the modern version of the dark ages.

Ikea's products have been largely overpriced for the quality for some time; gone are the days of cheap and cheerful

  • Across the board unfortunately, but increases of 25% or more seem to be common. I know there's cost increases, but I'm sure there are some opportunistic rises in there too.

Bit off topic but Aldi has some strange pricing that seems to be testing the market.
Energy drinks - singles were 99c, 4 packs $3.69 or something. 4 packs stayed the same price, singles increased 30% to $1.29 (for a few weeks I think) then have been on sale for 79c for the last two weeks or so (same sale price they've had in the past).
Coffee beans, medium roast went up by 25% to $15, yet the dark roast still remains at $12. As far as I know they come from the same roaster, same source beans. Would love to know why there would be such a price difference for essentially the same product (their single origin beans went up too, cant remember how much but was a much smaller %)

  • I think it's more about weak AUD.
Most of IKEA's products are imported.
Our dollar dropped from 76c USD to 65c USD today.

    • That's more a function of the USD going up relative to almost everything. The AUD hasn't depreciated quite that much against the Euro.
