Soon, we will have 1TB SSD for $200

    • Hopefully, though it's also possible for prices to stagnate or even increase, as sometimes happens with RAM. Flash memory production cuts could break the current price trend.

      • dobut it, not for atleast 10 years,.. we will have even faster 256gb ssds for $200….

    • Hopefully with the OEM HDD contracts up for renewal at the end of the year, will adopt a larger uptake of SSD's into prefab machines, which will cause the price to drop even further.

Enjoy the wait, hmmm yeah right

the samsung 830's are faster and more reliable yet no? these sandisks though are 2nd in line?

    • +2

its the price + free shipping that did it for me!

Samsung drives are still $275… i only need about 2 years life out of this thing ( comes with 3 Years Manufacture Warranty) and by that time SSD's would have become cheap as chips

    • +1

Based on the technology, and information from Toms hardware, Samsung 830 and Sandisk Extreme should be roughly on par with each other. Samsung 830 may win out in some of the benchmark tests. Though Sandforce chipset does not perform very well with data already compressed.

I only have the Sandisk Extreme, the Windows 7 bootup time (after BIOS boot) on SATA3 is approximately 5 seconds (cannot complain, actually quite impressive).

  • How good are these Sandisk compared to the Crucial M4?

    • If you check out the comments on newegg you'll find allot of very happy buyer!
and it uses high QTY toggle nan for better reliability

      http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820171…

      • +1

lol unless you have a 2009 mac? ..

    • If you use SATA3:

      m4 (on intel i7; with intel H77) - Windows 7 bootup - 7 seconds
Sandisk Extreme (in intel i5; with intel H77) - Windows 7 bootup - 5 seconds

m4 has a longer track record, and if you use SATA2, go m4. Pure speed on SATA3, Sandisk Extreme has the advantage.

  • Does this come with mounting bracket and software to copy data onto it?

  • +1

Has anyone tried using Sandisk Extreme's on a SATA2 laptop? I heard that it's SATA2 performance was subpar due to some firmware issue.

    • only if it was a particular chipsets, typical of what the macbooks came with in 2009 :)

    • -1

Please don't buy if you want to use it in a laptop. The drives are quiet thick. I know some one bought it on the last deal only to realize its too fat to fit in a laptop.

      • Your right about Ultra thin laptops, like the lenovo x1 or the x300 etc, these notebooks are thinner than general notebooks.

This hdd will fit in most standard laptops, having said that its best to check before buying the physical size required.

        • How about netbooks with standard HDD?

        • +2

          should be fine

      • you can always either remove the casing or find some way of sanding it down, obviously your warranty isnt valid anymore though.

    • Performance of Sandisk Extreme on SATA2 is sub-par. Performance of Sandisk Extreme on SATA3 (tested on intel H77) is fantastic. <5 second boot up to Windows 7 (clean Windows 7 install).

The SATA2 performance issue is more a Sandforce chipset issue (not limited to Sandisk Extreme).

SATA2 - Crucial (Micron) m4 is the most consistent one. For Sandisk Extreme, please make sure you use SATA3 (actually, for "decent" SSDs, use SATA3).

      • How to check which type of SATA you are having with your computer?

        • +1

good question, generally if it was built within the last year it may have sata3 before that unlikely

        • +3
          1. Check motherboard manual.
          2. Use CrystalDiskInfo (and look for Transfer Mode) - but this only tells you the current transfer mode (so if you have the drive connected to SATA2 then it will report SATA2).
          3. Check your BIOS. Normally, it would report them.
          4. Go to device manager and look at the IDE or ATAPI controllers, find out the chipset series and google for more info.
          5. Visit the Web site which has spec. of your motherboard.
  • i like the free delivery this time. but wtf was $5 delivery last time? i want my $5 back

    • that might be the kingston one you are talking about

    • it was a Kingston one i believe.

    • he's talking about the sunday facebook sale - which has $5 shipping cap for intel 330 etc. Same here, WHY charge shipping last time? This makes me'll have second thought before buying from SE again!

  • how good is this one comparing with the Kingston V+200 and intel 330?

    • Better qty nan ram then the kingstone and faster then the intel 330 but overall its the price that makes this one awesome…

      • Better quality, or quantity. I think you might be mixing it up.

    • -1

This one is more like Intel 550 SSD (obviously Intel is a better brand).

  • they are good drives, i got myself one for $240 a few weeks ago coz msy were out of vertex 4 and dont stock 240gb 520;s….

  • Why am I still being charged for delivery?

Edit: nevermind, it gets deducted on checkout.

I just got a Sandisk SSD yesterday from your SSD Sale event and now your having another sale along with free shipping!

Would it be possible to get a refund back on the difference? perhaps store credit?

    • +8

Due to the closeness of both events, it is fine.
Email us at [email protected]. Explain the issue, provide your order number, you should get the store credit. After that, please private message me your ticket id, so that i can make doubly sure about this.

      • Email sent. PM Sent. Thanks alot!

While I'm still ummm'ing and ahhhh'ing (the temptation is irresistible to purchase) I have to give ShoppingExpress a big + because they really seem to care about customer satisfaction - goes to show that low prices do not necessarily mean low customer service..

  • +2

I promised myself to wait but ultimately got sucked in…..
1 to 2 working day dispatch - awesome. Can't wait to get this baby. Thanks.

Hi Rep, is there any chance of a repeat of the Lenovo ThinkPad Tablets like this one?: http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/75338

They went so quickly; didn't manage to get one!

    Much appreciated!

    • +1

      Working on this…

  • -1

Excuse my ignorance but what are these used for? Expanding HD space on desktop???

    • +2

they replace your HDD in your pc or laptop…. but because of the smaller size of an SSD compared to a standard hard drive you may still want to use an extra Hard drive like 1 or 2TB disk for general storage like music, video's, large game install and run the operating system, applications, and normal sized game installs off the SSD to help boost loading times and cold start boot times…

Hard drives can take about 2 minutes to load into windows where an SSD will take seconds and you can start using your pc right away!

( On laptops you would use an external USB 2.5" hard drive. )

    • +1

They are to replace the HDD inside your computer, which is te one you store your operating system on (e.g: windows, linux…). As a result, your computer will boost significantly faster and generally perform faster than with traditional HDD. For massive storage such as movies, music… with hundreds of gigabytes, traditional HDD is still superior in terms of price and that you won't notice and probably won't need that much of speed increase. Using HDD with USB 3 is more suitable on this particular occasion.

According to my humble knowledge, SSD is faster in some ways but not always faster than HDD.

    • Okay thanks :D

    • It turns your $500 computer into a $5000 computer… Great way to invest in IT now

  • +1

Have been waiting for an SSD deal like this to come along. Just picked up a 240gb.

  • Does this come with a 2.5" bracket and SATA3 cable?

EDIT: Ah… no bracket, presumably no cable as well.

    • +1

No bracket, no cable. Drive only.

  • What is the difference between Aus Post eParcel ($9.85) and Aus Post + insurance cover ($15.95)?

    • ummm, insurance?

    • an extra 6 $ or so lol i got the 16 $ one tho since its free

    • Same product, one has insurance the other does not. Goes through the same network etc.

  • ordered the 120 good speeds and good price thanks

  • +4

ehh is it just me, or is this basically the same price as MSY for the 120/240GB?

    • +2

      Correct!

It's still a good deal if you want to get it delivered for free and not face MSY customer service or lack there of.

      • msy worst shop in Australia ? i believe so

        • +1

msy is fine, just dont expect customer service, if you know what you want then its pretty easy and simple.

        • +4

With MSY, when purchasing items, you don't get much service from them. However, when you need warranty repair or replace DOA items, their service is better than quite a few other computer shops. They are often willing to take your words when you said the RAM is faulty or the motherboard is faulty (esp. when you bought from them within 7 days), unlike some other computer shops where I must prove to them that the item is faulty.

MSY uses single queue system (you pay and you get the item on the spot), unlike some other stores which use two queues system (queue to order / pay and a second queue to collect the item - whenever they feel like bringing the item out to you). There are worse stores than MSY.

        • +3

MSY is great. I do all my own research online, check store stock online, and then travel to my local store and pick up the items.

Plus I love not being harassed by sales staff who know bugger all.

MSY works well for me :)

        • austin does this
          a real pita

  • Does it working on my THINKPAD X201i? Cheers!

    • Yes it will!

      • I just checked the website, the OCZ Agility 3 120GB SSD Internal Solid State Drive 2.5 inch SATA3 is also $99 and it seems better than SANDISK?

        • Sandisk > OCZ
          Extreme > Agility

  • How are these on Mac's? (Mac mini & MBP?)

  • So would I need to buy anything for this to go in my 2011 Macbook? Is the mounting bracket for a laptop or to put in a pc?

    • Just put it in the hdd place. If u want double drive, buy optibay to mount your old hdd.

  • +1
