Help! I Need to Buy a Refundable Ticket. Credit or Voucher OK

I have my reasons. I need to show that I have a return ticket to Australia. Unfortunately, it can't be one of those throw away temporary tickets that is only valid for a few days, it needs to be valid for months. After that, I can cancel the ticket.

Am I correct in assuming that if I buy a Jetstar Plus Bundle with the Flex feature, I can get a Jetstar voucher when I cancel, valid for 3 years? I am reading lots of contradictory information about it.

  • Which country you travelling to? As different carriers have differing rules

    • It doesn't matter really. Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, anything like that OK. The point is cancel, and use the voucher or credit later.

If you have a bit of money try booking business class with nearly any carrier. Double check the fare rules but for nearly every carrier you can get a full cash refund for any reason when you buy the expensive tickets.

    • I ended up going with Jetstar and their flexible ticket system (for a higher price). Since I get on Jetstar quite frequently, its not a big problem to have the money stored in the form of a voucher credit. Thank you for your constructive response. I am surprised by some of the other hostile responses here. A true Ozbargainer.

Generally, you do not need a return ticket but an onward ticket to show you are leaving the country.

    • My situation is different as I need to show that I am returning to Australia specifically. My problem is that if I book this far ahead (January next year) and keep the ticket, I will be paying a huge premium than if I booked just a few months before.

Lol the first sentence already stops someone from asking questions. I myself would prefer genuinely satisfying those requirements. Oops wandering into ethics now

The first sentence is also incredibly off putting and doesn’t really invite a helpful response.

There’s much nicer ways of phrasing it which will make people want to help the OP

The first sentence screams, "I'M DODGING VISA CONDITIONS", but maybe that's just me?

Sounds like the OP is trying to meet PR conditions whilst maximising their time out of the country and back in their home country. The way they're being clammy about it already turns me off from offering help.

I just don't want to get lost in the tangent of "why" instead of seeking the most financially favourable solution. I decided to buy a Jetstar Maxi bundle that has free cancellation in exchange for a voucher only "refund". That way, I can cancel that flight closer to my return date, get my money back in the form of a voucher with 3 year validity, and purchase a cheaper ticket later on.

Your speculation is wrong, BTW, as is exactly the reason why I didn't want to elaborate.

My family arrived in Australia in 1832.

    • I am trying to genuinely satisfy the requirements that are unknown to you and irrelevant to the discussion. That is why I am not getting a temporary ticket for $10, instead getting a real ticket for $$$$. Is Australia so far gone that we are dunking on strangers asking for help?
