  • Generally always available for $1250, so a $251 discount is pretty good!

    • Thanks. I knew its normally discount but couldn't remember the price. My wife has the Oztent RS-1 swag so now I just need to convince her I need the Oztent RV-5 for me and the kids…

  • Good deal for the older model, although the one at the start of the year for the tent plus a ~$400 mattress was probably a little better

    • Yeah i got the deal from tentworld with the mattress for $999. Was a ripper deal! Also i have to say Tentworld have been EXTREMELY helpful with a few little issues that obviously came from the oztent factory. Customer service +10!

      • I've had a horrible experience with Tentworld customer service. I got a tent with deformed poles where the fibreglass on the ends practically crumbled apart when I inspected the tent before my camping trip. Ended up delaying my trip so I could find another tent. When I came to return it within the same week they told me they don't provide refunds and will only give me a "goodwill repair" or will send it back to the manufacturer for inspection. Their "goodwill repair" amounted to them taking the tent poles out back and taping them. Had a lengthy argument with the manager at the counter at which point the embarassed cashier finally refunded us.

        • I dealt wirh the online store which is a warehouse and not a shopfront so possibly different crew. I called them upon first inspection of the tent and was sent a dispatch to return it the next day for a replacement. Was really good. Must have been a karen you were dealing with unfortunetly!

          • @soulink: Out of interest, what was wrong with the oztent?

            • +1

@ninnypoop: Nothing major, it had a small hole in the bottom canvass, some of the fly screen mesh looks scratched with little holes and their was a ornage mettalic like stain on the front awning the size of a watermelon. I usually dont care for small stuff but for a 1k tent i want it new. It looked like it was a factory return (most likely re packeged by oztent in china so no fault of tentworld). But tentworld stated they come streight from china in a box so they took that one and sent me a new one streight away. New one looks great.

One other issue is the new one had one of the guide ropes was dicky and deformed. So again they sent me not one but 4 x guide ropes as a replacement.

  • Great tent if you don't want a swag and need to stand up. Will last you many many years.

  • I've lost my coleman instant up so can't help but compare.

Apart from the size of this to transport, I'm wondering if it being single skin only is much of a downside? Likewise in terms of darkness when the windows are closed.

Would it be comparable to a canvas swag?

    • +2

Single skin brings on the risk of condensation inside. Darkness could be the same as a swag. Def not getting black like the dark room tents.

      • Thanks, that's what I was thinking.

    • You can buy a fly that zips onto it for $150, they're now included in the Plus series

  • +8

It looks awesome, but as per the video "Packs down to 2 metres long for easy transport in most vehicles".
Unless you have a trailer, good roof racks or possibly a ute, this is going to be logistically difficult to transport.

    • +1

Perfect for the backyard in that case

    • +1

Yep, the only downfall is the packed up size for most people… Doesnt bother me.

but then if you want a tent to go up in 30 seconds something has to give..

Love my RV… dont use the Blackwolf tent anymore… or the swag

  • looked pretty small tho, how comfortable would it gonna fit 5 person in there?

    • +8

Divide all tent person size by 2. You can fit 5 manlets in there lying right next to each other. You could fit 2 adults and a baby with some luggage otherwise.

      • thx

    • Go see one in person… they arent small! LOL

any tent recommendations for 2 adults, 2 (under 10) kids, and a dog?

    • +1

Coleman northstar 10P is pretty good! Plenty of room!

    • Have a look at the Blackwolf Turbo 300 Plus - we had one when the kids were much younger. Very good tent, and the "Turbo" bit is true to label - fast to pitch and break.

Cheaper options from Coleman, however our experience is quality not quite up to the BlackWolf.

      • I had a Turbo 300 Plus in the past. Great tent. The fact that you can add on so much in the way of additional rooms, awnings, walls etc was very handy.
My only gripe was that the fly didn't cover the whole tent. Works well for some (great for ventilation) but I like 2 layers all around.

When the babies are older, I will def get one of the inflatable strut tents. Mate has one and swears by it for convenience.

    • Can't go wrong with the Coleman instant up 8P or 10P. I've got an older model 10P that has served the family well (2 adults & 2 kids).

    • +1

I agree with @Inthemix, I have a Coleman northstar 10P and we are a family of 2 adults 1 child 1 dog, an extra child would be no issue at all.
Look out for deals on OzB as they often have good discounts. This tent has been around for a while now, so there could be good second hand prices if you're that way inclined. Since I bought my Coleman Northstar 10 Person Darkroom Tent with LED tent they've done a couple of options for this tent, including "darkroom" and an LED light strip that I think runs from one end of the tent to the other, it has a USB connector so you just connect it to a powerbank. The reviews for this tent are excellent, it's great in the rain, very rainproof, it's good in the wind, except for the verandah which can get blown around. The other thing is this tent is very long, about 8 metres. The reviews are excellent and well worthy of it.

Judging by how house prices have been going (coupled with energy, food, etc inflation), I'll end up living in tent. These 2 men tents look like just the thing I would need.

We sold our coleman northstar 10p and upgraded (downgrade?) this. RV5 fits a queen and a single king just fine, so there's enough space for us (our eldest is 6). With the additional sides and front panel, it essentialy creates another room. We put our stuff that needed to be off ground on a cheap strecher we have where else things can just be on the floor mat. Of course there's no where near the amount of space comparing to coleman 10p but its a much more durable tent. We used the Coleman about 15 times last year and used it in some fairly windy conditions. It held up just fine but I started seeing some deterioration on the velco straps and other places plus the two rips it had the fly so we deceid to change to something else. I think overall if you're using it a few times a year and are fine with putting down 30+ pegs each time, the Coleman is a great tent all things considered. The RV5 on the other hand is expensive with all the bells and whistles but will last years.

    • Outdoor Connection Brampton gets my vote. Used it during a huge storm, held up fine. Versatile with the annexes. Great aitflow
      Best tent on Product Review

  • Good tent, we love ours. Putting it up is easy, bag is big, but it goes up on the roof racks fine.
Wish I paid that price for it…

  • -3

Pity it is so ridiculously long in length.

Would never consider with that ridiculous packed dimension.

    • +5

It's the price you pay for the convenience of putting it up in 30 seconds, plus there's less moving parts to break, and the corners/hinges are all replaceable.

They're not for everyone, but they're awesome and last forever

    • Agree. Horses for courses. Looked at an early version years ago and that was the stumbling block. Bought a second hand Sthn Cross Ultimate Deluxe instead.

    • Perfect length and shape for roof racks which frees up space in the car… Win win
