Samsung 55" The Frame QLED 4K Smart TV (2022) + Bonus Bezel Frame $1116 + Delivery ($0 C&C/ in-Store) @ JB Hi-Fi

1220

Better than previous deal from Nov 22 Samsung 55" The Frame QLED 4K Smart TV [2022] + Bonus Bezel Frame for $1452

EDIT: Further $50 off $500 Minimum Spend from JB Perks for those targeted https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/759986 Thanks @fruxo for the heads-up

Samsung QA55LS03BAWXXY 55" The Frame QLED 4K Smart TV [2022] is currently $499 off current RRP$1615 (31% off) at JB Hi-Fi. The RRP end of 2022 was $2095 (47% off).

Also comes with a bonus offer of a Bezel frame for the TV valued at $129.

Bezels can be viewed here: https://www.jbhifi.com.au/collections/Samsung-bezel-frames

Best price I've seen it for this TV from a retailer (non-seconds, factory outlet).

Mine is still in its box purchased in December $1279 from GG for our renos, so haven't been able to use it to review. The 65" is similar price now for what I paid for my 55" Samsung The Frame 65" - $1276

Also note for those looking at other sizes the 55" and larger has higher motion rate at 200Hz, than the 50" and less TVs which are at 100Hz ……(I had to check a few places to cross references as some stores were conflicting on their spec tables). This is the main difference beside price. Note the 50" is $1195 which seems odd so don't say you weren't warned.

    65" only $1276 a little bit more and 75" under $2000

    • Yep - same price as what I paid for my 55" in 2022 which didn't include the bezel.

People just have to make sure they are OK with matte display

        • +15

matte display is the best selling point for this TV

          • +1

@botchie: I think the best advice would be to go into the store and see it in person.

I went tonight, and I thought I wouldn't mind the matte screen since the Art Mode was the main draw, but I found the overall impression of the Frame as a TV to be quite poor with washed out colours and rather low contrast. The matte screen IS actually really effective at reducing literally 99.9% of reflections though.

            • +1

@tekisei: In store is probably the worst representation for this TV though. Especially next to the maxed out brightness oleds.

            • @tekisei: Ours will sit in our lounge room with heaps of northern light, so if there is lots of glare, this could be a factor too.

Next to other OLEDs it may not look stunning, but also some of those TVs are crazy clear and to me more than what's needed.

Definitely check it out in store but just keep it mind.

              • +1

@PleasureMachine: you guys are making it too complicated, if you want a good quality picture and viewing enjoyment, get OLED
if you want a decent TV experience with the added benefit of picture frame for aesthetic purpose then this tv is the only tv you can consider and it works great for what it is, the matte screen is a must

              • @PleasureMachine: Yeah and your impression will change depending on how the store sets up the TV display area.

E.g. the TV area at JB is super bright but TGG is super dark. Myer is around the middle.

Appreciate including the motion rate information. Thank you

    • -5

Does it matter? You can't be sure how the picture looks like until you see it. These screens, like most TVs refresh 50/60Hz and the rest is post-processing/motion smoothening and marketing.

Please correct me if I'm wrong!

      • +4

You are wrong, that info is pretty outdated now.

      • +5

Hey, it matters for me now. As it’s 2023 and becoming the standard to have hdmi 2.1 on TVs for those who game & enjoy the extra refresh rate. It can be very noticeable having a higher motion rate combined with post processing/ai etc.

Depends who it’s for and what they want from their telly. For me, 200hz motion rate is a must for a 5+year investment at this stage and time. Wouldn’t have been the case if I was buying one three years ago though (for example). Hope it helps!

  • +3

This is a steal especially the 65” one. I got the 75” one a few months ago for $23xx delivered (without any bonus bezel). Wall mounted the TV and my wall has never looked better! Every guest was like “wow”!

    • +1

Got the 65" as well. They do look awesome once all set up :)

      • do you have to mount them with some special wall mount? does it come with TV?

        • No it has VESA. Yes.

        • This is copied from the JB link. A slim line wall mount comes with the TV.

Hangs beautifully on the wall, with virtually no gap
          SLIM FIT WALL MOUNT (INCLUDED)
The Frame comes included with the Slim Fit Wall-Mount accessory which helps your TV to hang beautifully on the wall, leaving minimal space between.* Gorgeous from all angles, your TV can fit elegantly into your living room.
*The gap may differ based on the installation and wall type. Compatible with 43-85” 2021 and 2022 Samsung Q Series (except Q80A/Q80B), Crystal UHD series and The Frame TVs.
*Different sizes may come with different slim fit wall mount models.

      • Does the oneconnect box has to be in line of sight of the remote. Can I place oneconnect box on the other side of the wall through a hole and still operate remote?

  • Great price!!

  • +2

Sorry, first time I heard of this "Frame" model.

So do people really use this to primarily display art? Or still mostly used as a TV?

And if only looking to buy to use as a regular TV, would this model be good choice or better off buying another model?

    • +3

I have 2021 The Frame, it is just like normal TV around the same as Q70B, I don't use the art mode.

But the 2022 model is matte display, you have to make sure you like it.

      • +3

I intent to use purely for Art by installing it in my foyer. Sounds like crazy idea but I am giving it a go.

      • Thanks gotcha, I will likely look at a different model then.

        • I actually like the matte screen as it's anti-reflective so no glare.

    • +4

For me, it would be (planning on getting one) to make the living area less of a dedicated TV watching space. The idea would be to have this on one wall amongst other artwork with seating space that isn't necessarily all directed at the TV to make the living space more of a sitting and socialising area rather than a TV room. That's my theory at least. Keen to hear if anyone else uses it like this.

      • +1

Same for us. It'll sit amongst existing art work on a gallery wall.

We have low ceiling and house is decent sized but not a massive mansion (hence the 55" max…..any bigger and it would look a little silly with 2.4m ceiling).

We're not huge visual people, so we don't need deepest blacks or super vibrant colours. The big advantage is not having a black, dark screen on a wall when it's off.

I'm looking forward to see how it works. We stayed in an Air BnB that had one, and it was great. The product photos and YT clips showing it on a wall do look great. In the store, it was great on the wall.

        • +1

Yes, that is the best thing about this TV, i.e. it looks great when it is off! And I'm not being sarcastic.

The crap thing about big screen TVs is it leaves a black hole (rectangle hole) in your room when you aren't watching it and it's actually very ugly. Now I know why I'm always tempted to turn on my TV and leave it on mute when I'm not watching it.

        • +1

That's cool to see how others have done this! I would consider taking it a step further than most of those posts though, maybe even have it above a couch or chairs facing the main TV watching couch. I have never been a fan of having a dedicated TV cabinet and I think you could probably manage to fit everything into a less conspicuous cabinet nearby.

    • +3

We have the 75" 2021 model and in our living room and it's been great to show family photos when not in use - thought a PITA to hve to upload new ones all the time. Also we chose it cause of how slim this TV is to mount compared to say the OLED.

However, even my wife who's not very tech concious doesn't like the colours on this TV. Find it very washed out, not vibrant. Changing the colours didn't help too much. That could be cause we have the LG C1 OLED as the main movie one.

      • True. I returned mine because of the bad blacks and terrible colour shifting once you change your viewing angle even just a tiny bit.

      • That could be cause we have the LG C1 OLED as the main movie one.

Of course, you have OLED for her to compare XD

BTW, did you find the oneconnect box quite warm/hot?

        • Yes, the box does get hot!

        • I haven't noticed but there are a number of factors at play.
          1. This is mainly kids watching in the arvo before dinner or their limited game time in the weekend
          2. The box is tucked in our TV unit and I don't go near the box if it's ever been on for any long period of time (>1hr)
          3. When I do go to turn off the X360/Switch after the kid's gaming session (about 1hr) it's not hot, unless the X360 has been on.

        • :-)
When we got the Frame TV, we had moved into a new place and hadn't watched the OLED for a few months. She commented on the poor colours all on her own and didn't actually make the comparison.
So yeah, must be bad :D

    • +15

Today I learned that there are rich people on OzBargains buying a TV to hang on the wall as an art piece amongst all their other art work.

      • hang on the wall as an art piece amongst all their other art work.

You can't change all the time.

      • +2

Kind of a silly take. It's a regular TV that has a light dimming feature and a matte screen for picture/art display. I'm not rich but can afford a second TV in the house that has an added bonus of being able to display art.

    • It's a TV however when the TV display is off you can display it as an artwork.

    • +2

I have a 75 inch 2022 model. It's actually under a couch in our living room. Displays art when not in use and really blows people's minds when they find out it is a TV

      • +3

Why is it under a couch? (genuine question)

      • +1

I'd have my mind blown if there was a perfectly good 75" TV under the couch collecting dust with pieces of lost lego, bits of discarded snackfood and a few boogers.

    • +1

It's a good option for those that want a decent TV but hate the look of a TV dominating the wall. It displays art during standby mode. You're paying for the feature though and if all you want is the best image, better off buying one of the regular range

      • +1

Yep, this is the only reason my wife allowed me to buy a 65" TV.

Otherwise she would only go 50 or 55.

      • +1

The other reason is that the TV has minimal gap (almost none) from the wall once mounted. Very clean and sleek looking. I know there are a couple of other ones out there too.

      • We display art with our TV through Chromecast for over five years, how is this one different than that ?

        • +1

It's specifically designed to show artwork.

        • +1

Matt screen, look like real art , go check it out in store and you will understand.

          • @superforever: Seems interesting, I'll go check it out. Previously, frame around a TV was putting me off as I don't like white frame while watching movies in dark and buying one with black frame is just like old TV with thick black boarder. Anyway, I like my TV to not have any reflections around it while watching movies but that's just me.

            • @SuperLate: The frame is black by default, other colours snap on top of it as an optional accessory

    • +2

I find the specs for the TV are great…..they're not super high end or premium by any means, but it'll be decent enough. Not sure what the equivalent would be in a "normal" TV (note someone below suggests a Q70B) that doesn't have the art function and what the premium you are paying for this is, but when I was researching, it was maybe $200-300 extra.

Plus the extras you get included with The Frame TV seemed to be great for the price.

      Such as
      - slim line wall mount
      - the one clear cable and one connect box to hide all the cables.
      - solar powered charging remote

The art mode is the big plus…..for us, not having a dark screen taking real estate on the wall, this will at least be a little more of an addition to our space. Makes it a little more function.

I think if you haven't seen one before, definitely check it out in store.

  • Frame TV is 2022 model but Bezel frame is 2021. I am imagining they are 2021 and 2022 TV s are same size.

    • +1

I am imagining they are 2021 and 2022 TV s are same size.

They are almost the same except the matte screen.

    • +4

Yes same sized screens so the bezels will fit between those models.

  • +3

Don't forget $50 off $500 as well. Lots of people sharing codes in the other thread.

  • +1

A few comments regarding the matt screen for 2022 model… maybe I need to go in store to compare!

    • Just think of it as a giant PC monitor, most of those are matte.

    • +3

Picked up the 55 Frame recently. I love the screen and never notice the matte when it's in TV mode apart from no reflections. It's really bright and has good contrast. Viewing angles are ok. If you're at a tighter viewing angle, there might be better options, but it hasn't bothered me at all. Definitely not the same blacks as oleds, especially in the dark, but I think for most people (counting me) it's a really great option. Watched Top Gun Maverick the other night and it didn't miss a beat.

Protip: Don't get too bogged down in YouTube reviews. Those guys are watching TV at a different level

      • +1

Definitely not the same blacks as oleds, especially in the dark,

I turn on intelligent mode and it did a bit better on dark scene

        • Oh good tip. I'll try that out, but I haven't found the black levels that bad anyway

          • @denz: Only a bit hard to see on dark scene with intelligent mode it will adjust it for you automatically.

  • How do you connect all peripherals to this one? I don't see how the clean "frame" look would be maintained I mean. Does it have a separate box with all the connections (connected with a single cable or something)?

  • Remember this is not OLED. OLED is king. Nevertheless, a decent deal for the "Frame" aspect.

    And also 200Hz.

    • +6

I don’t think anyone on the site thinks they’re getting a Samsung OLED for this price.

      • -1

Better than buying twice. Ie buy this then another down the track.
Who wld assume they would be getting OLED at this price? LmAo

        • +3

Really? Says the person who wrote "Remember this is not OLED". If you think no one would be silly enough to assume they would be getting OLED at this price, why did you bother saying "Remember this is not OLED", especially when no one even questioned what type of panel this TV has.

          • @keejoonc:

you think no one would be silly enough to assume they would be getting OLED at this price

I don't think they will know what is OLED.

    • +2

      OLED is king

Not at displaying passive artwork in your TV room it's not…

  • +1

Tempted to get one as my main computer monitor

    • Tempted to get one as my main computer monitor

      OLED

  • +3

i hate TV prices, its always cheaper FEW months AFTER you buy it…aaaarrrgghh

    • +1

Just wait for a cheaper one, but then, wait for it to be even cheaper… and before you buy, wait for it to go cheaper again!

      • Or wait for old stock clearance.

  • I think the art pieces on the 2022 model (matte) are more realistic that the 2021 model. Have the 2021 model and am somewhat disappointed by the art display - doesn't look realistic enough. Maybe I'm not tweaking the settings right.

    • Agreed, I have the 2020 model and the art display mode is still not mistakable for art (as it emits light)

nevertheless it’s much better than the big black rectangle and given it isn’t too bright in art mode it fades into the background nicely

    • The other reason why the 2022 model is more convincing is because the light sensor adjusts colour temperature. The 2021 model only adjusted the brightness.
