Auspost Doesn't Deliver to Us; Any Discounts on Their PO Box?

Auspost doesn't deliver to us, so we need to keep a PO Box (which we would do anyway, as we always had at other addresses, but I digress). Our PO Box renewal has just come up; some $47 I'd love to save on.

Are there any deals or subsidies for such cases?

Move to an address that they do deliver to.

$47 for your annual PO Box subscription?

When I got rid of mine recently it had got up to ~$200. It seems like your rate is already significantly discounted, presumably for the reasons you're alluding to.

    • Good news at last! 😃

That is the cheapest you can get when Auspost is unable to deliver, OPs next option is to move houses.

wtf, shouldn't it be free if Auspost can't deliver? They are the national postage service, shouldn't they have an obligation to deliver to you just like Telstra has an obligation to run a phone line to your house even if you are in whoop?

        • That's what I was thinking 😊

        • +1

Don't ask me, but I don't think Auspost didn't force OP to live in Whoop.
Then again, I don't think OP getting crazy as land tax for living in Whoop either. So OP can deal with it with $100 discount lol

If I was OP, I would just opt out, the only thing I'm getting posted are bills.

@boomramada: I don't think OP is living in the crater of an active volcano or similar. From other comments, it seems they are close enough to a post office to go there every day.

If we were talking about a private courier, that is different. Australia Post has an obligation to service all Australian's even if that is inconvenient to them.

            • @djsweet: Lol you/OP might have to talk to the Auspost CEO not me 😉

            • @djsweet: Yeah, walking distance. The lack of service may be bc we're renting in someone else's acreage, not bc we're that remote.

      • Yeah, well, I don't feel so bad now, looking at the other rates 😳

        • +2

Yeah when you said $47 I was like hol up I just renewed for $100 more than that

    • Did you replace it with parcel locker or parcel collect

      • +1

Neither. I moved and my new situation was more amenable to receiving parcels than previously. Combine that with not receiving anywhere near the physical correspondence of many years ago and it just wasn't worth the cost any more. When absolutely necessary I'll use a parcel locker.

      • Can't use parcel lockers for letters

Have you tried parcel collect at the post office?

  • +1

Yeah this is 100% already a discounted rate. I was paying about $150 a year back in 2021 when I was away with work.

Any 24/7 parcel lockers near you? They're free.

    https://auspost.com.au/receiving/collection-points/use-a-247…

    • They're a 15-min drive away from me, which is not bad at all, but I found an even better solution!
(for me, bc I don't need 24/7, and the local postie is on the way to the kiddo's school)

The irony is they would do anything to stop all deliveries and make everyone collect their own mail.

With regard to the $47 it was probably some nominal amount ages ago like $1 per year and the bean counters have just kept increasing it without any knowledge of the "this is actually miles cheaper than us delivering" context.

  • Did you miss a digit there? Mine is $147!

  • Why don't they deliver to you? Is that something you can fix?

    • Here

I'm in a property in a semi-rural area, and actually like not having a postie coming into it every other day.
