I'll give out 10 internet points if someone can tell me the chord the girl in picture 3 is playing.

    • +1

C rock chord, as I can definitely relate to the playing style I would say she's had a few drinks

      Wonderwall

I mean, it's clearly C Major Seven Sharp Eleven

      She's a pro…

      • sustained… I think

        ;-)

        • I think you mean suspended ;-)

Looks like a C major or minor but

      a) she hasn't placed her middle finger anywhere (from the looks of it)
      b) she has both her first and third finger on the A string???
      c) her index finger is too crooked to be holding the barre correctly

If you're after a strat, the DTS-400 is also on sale for $160 with positive reviews

Have posted this deal before for $169: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/746091

    • It's the DST400 and get great reviews online but it's hard to decipher if they are paid reviews.

      Darrell Braun loves it

Yeah, i have this and love it, but they need to improve the workmanship, I can see some glue inside the pickup. https://ibb.co/LRRw3BP

  • Donner are great. As a lefty, they are the most affordable left handed guitars.

    • Just play like a classic lefty and learn upside down.

      • +1

Or just expect better from manufacturers? its a mirror image of the G-code to make a lefty. there is no reason why they should cost more. Sure, smaller market, but parts and materials are the same.

I have 4 left handed guitars and I'll never play an upside down righty. that said I'll likely never buy new either.

        • I'm a lefty but play right handed guitar. Isn't it easier having your dominant hand do the tricky fretboard stuff than the strumming?

          • @0 0 0: I can do a lot of things right handed, but guitar is not one of them. it is totally foreign to have it on my body pointing the opposite way.

        • +1

Sounds like you need to open up a store for lefties. You could call it Leftorium or something!

In all seriousness, I imagine it's all down to how you've learned. I'm a righty though, so don't actually know the struggles… I can guarantee if I picked up a left handed guitar I wouldn't be able to play no matter how it was rotated or stringed.

  • Honest opinion, how hard is it to learn to play guitar for someone who has never held one?

    • +2

If you want to bang out some three chord campfire anthems - easy enough.

Past that - like any other skill, it depends on how good you want to be.

    • +1

Doable. I started just with guitar tabs. Once I got a bit better, started learning a bit more theory, etc. Also lessons should be a good help.

This is me - didn't play any instruments and I'm in my 40s. Decided I'm going to learn guitar one day and went and bought one.
Started ~6 weeks ago practicing 10-30min/day and my fingers hurt. I'm up to about 90 minutes a day (every day because I'm loving it).
I can play a bunch of recognisable riffs, and learn more from guitar tabs, I'm not real smooth at anything but noticing improvements every day.
I've been following JustinGuitar lessons (which are excellent) and for the rest of my practice I just work on songs I like.

None of this was hard (apart from annoying finger pain at the start) - it takes lots of practice to get anywhere but I don't find that hard (it's fun) - and every day I've noticed something get better than the day before.

    • Most learner guitarists play badly out of time and usually after the beat. Other than reggae, this sounds appalling in a band setting. No matter how boring it sounds, you should always practice with a metronome.
      Handy hint.
No matter what you think, you will be 10-50% worse in front of other people than practicing in your bedroom. Possibly 200% worse.
So don't play out until you are beyond sure.

      • timing….its all about the timing. I can play whatever you throw at me….but my timing sucks….so thats my 2023 goal

    • A little tuition (youtube and the intertubes can help)
minimum of 10 minutes practice every day
Soon you'll have 3 chords looking for 12 bars.

Oh, and don't try to play like your heroes. Play like you.

    • +1

Don't think about it like that. If you're interested in being able to play guitar, go and get one and start learning how to play it. Don't worry about how you sound to others. Think about how you sound to yourself. Honestly, learning guitar is a lot of fun.

    • It's easy to learn nowadays because of free resources available on the web specially YouTube, but as a beginner, don't try to attempt any of Polyphia's song so you won't get discouraged. :)

  • Thinking od getting a no brand full size digital piano from here. Any good? Any recommendations??
