I bought this game at the last sale, and it's a great game and well worth the price. To me it's a bit like Super Mario World 3D but with much better graphics.

Does it feel like a fresh change from the other Little Big Planets?

Really enjoyed them at the start, but by the time I got to the third, was getting a bit tired of the format.

      • +1. Would love an answer to this.

I've never played the other Little Big Planets so for me it felt exciting/new. I would say, the game starts out pretty easy - but I feel like I'm past halfway now and it's getting challenging to get all the stars in the level (or whatever it's called in this game)

This is a totally different game to the other LBP's, the character and the movement feels the same but it's much more a 3D platformer than a "create" style game

      • +1

Absolutely. I played LBP3 with my son and it was extremely frustrating as a side scroller with limited screen space. It almost seemed to punish you for playing with more than 1 person.

Sackboy was a brilliant experience. My 6yo and I absolutely hammered it over the Christmas break. As OP said above, it's a lot more like Super Mario 3D world than the previous side scrollers that were more like a Mario Bros game.

It also really hones in on that "easy to learn, hard to master" sort of style. You don't need to remember a million buttons, but there are certain levels that you'll do over and over until you get it right. We also back tracked through most to get collectibles and orbs to unlock later levels and weren't quite bored of it.

Not sure I would've given it much of a chance if I didn't have a kid to play with, but I'd have enjoyed it if I did happen to pick it up.

        • Forgot to add, in addition to the first point where LBP was borderline unplayable with multiple people, Sackboy has actual levels that you must play with another player (either local or online).

For someone looking to play co-op, it's so far ahead of the other LBPs.

      • Played all of them. I love the LBP games, but Sackboy is completely fresh and a fantastic game. It's also an incredible game for online co-op.

      • Cheers all for the replies (won't annoy everyone individually).

Definitely sounds like it's worth picking up.

I'm like you, @Salzberger - have a 7yo and he wanted to play the first 3 heaps with me (probably why I'm tired of them, haha), but will give this a go.

  • Would the ps5 upgrade, be a download code?

    • +2

Nah, it downloads the PS5 version but you still need the disc in the console to authenticate the license

      • I'm also new to the PS5 upgrades concept - are there technically any differences between doing this and buying the PS5 version, other than the storage space for the downloaded data (full game vs patches)?

        • +1

you are getting 2 games with PS4 disc (inc PS5 digital copy). file size is the same since nowadays PS5 install everything.

        • +1

I don't have a disc-based console, but you're given the option of using either version.

PS5 Version will have to be installed on the internal SSD, whereas the PS4 version can be played off an external HDD.

Differences are primarily graphics quality and performance. The PS5 upgrade typically adds DualSense support and maybe a few other things.

The PS5 handles the versions a bit clumsily, but it will tell you if you have the PS4 or PS5 version installed.
Xbox on the other hand will always install the best version available to you with "Smart Delivery"

        • +2

When you insert the disc into your PS5, there will be a Free PS5 Upgrade option in the "Game Hub" (which is when you press down on the game in the menu). You just "purchase" the free upgrade, and it will download the PS5 version of the game, which occasionally is smaller than the PS4 version.

The PS4 disc will need to still be inserted, but you select the PS5 version of the game in the menu. It's a bit more annoying than Xbox's "Smart Delivery", but you do get used to it.

Finally a reasonable price! Been waiting forever to check this one out.

This one is screaming to me "As soon as you buy this it will be free on PSN Plus…."

    • +1

That's been holding me off it; along with the digital version being chronically over-priced

    • +1

I should have listened to you, oh wise one…

Now it's time for me to say it about The Last of Us Remake then…

  • Great game, get it now.

  • +2

Great with kids, got from target on clearance for 20

  • It says 'only 1 left in stock' before and after I bought it =D

    • +2

Price has gone up. Looks like u got the last one.

  • Con - Don't have Prime anymore so didn't order it immediately, missed out.

Pro - Have 3 other games I haven't played nor unwrapped, and chances are by the time I would've got around to playing SB it'd probably go on sale again.
