    1180pcs Professional Tool Set

    500 x Zip ties
    280 x shrinkable tubes
    243 x Fasteners

Why not highlight this in the title ?

    • +5

Because "Professionals" are not suppose to use zip ties.

      • +7

True professionals use only zip ties. No tools necessary.

        • With enough zip ties you shall move the world

    • +4

if they talk up this, my thinking is the quality of the tools is also talked up…

  • +7

I guess "professional" means different things to different people these days.

    • +4

Gerry Harvey calls ozbargainers professionals. Tells you a lot.

  • +11

Lol 500 zip ties considered a "piece of tool".
    oldest trick in the book.

    • +3

False & misleading. Who'd buy this junk anyway…the tools look very poor quality from the website photos.

      • +3

        who’d buy

Suckers born every minute - unfortunately

    • Snap'em in half and suddenly you have two tools too!

  • +2
    • +1

As above cheaper on alibaba. No deal

  • +3

1023 of those are are not really tools.

  • +1

    Junk

  • +1

why would you even consider selling this garbage op?

    • He might have 5 mouths to feed

      • +7

4 of those mouths are zip ties

  • Good stuff used in internment reeducation camps and Uyghur holding facilities by the ministry of state security.

  • I know that the deal is getting savaged here, and not without reason, but…

It's actually not too bad for a starter toolset when kids leave home for the first time. They're cheap, junky tools that will fall out of their holders as soon as you start wheeling the case around vertically. However, those tools can still get them out of a bind. And if they use them enough to want better tools, then they've done their job.

Sometimes a single high end tool will cost around $100, or a spanner wrap with a decent size range, so this starter kit seems like not too bad of a proposition.

We all started with junky tools, didn't we? Spanners for a few $ ea loose in a Kmart bin.

The $99 price could do with some massaging, but it's not unreasonable. Not a bargain though.

      But, you upvoted?

And yeah, in the 90's there was 'cheap junk' or '100+ per tool pro' options.

Now, for $120 more than this deal, you can get a kit that will last, and is proven, with lifetime warranty.

        But, you upvoted?

Eh, it brought back fond memories. Nostalgia. I still have some of those throwaway Kmart tools, I'm sure.

And the price isn't bad. It's a pretty good deal, just not enough to drool over.

If we take the Alibaba price for 100-499 similar tool kits (linked in a comment above), convert to AUD, and GST, then add $10 unit shipping (that's a guess), then it comes out to $77.74ea. So the seller is left with $21.26. You then subtract the receiving costs (not sure if Alibaba manuf. delivers to your door, or just port of arrival), Topto's logistics and handling costs, wages for employees, and then the mandatory 12mo warranty, they're not making much on these at $99.

Do you want them to have a living wage? $99 isn't an over the top price. It isn't a predatory Ozbargain-level price error or "we have to get rid of this model below cost because the logistics of this many SKUs is killing us" level, but it is cheaper than it should typically be unless you're operating a Bunnings scale of stock turnover.

Even Topto's shipping prices for this kit seem reasonable.

The "1180pc" thing is stupid, but we've all seen it all before. Everyone knew what the go was as soon as we saw it. Tiny driver bits, or elastic bands, or o-rings, or some other tool kit stocking stuffer to inflate the numbers. Disappointing, but not surprising.

Now, for $120 more than this deal, you can get a kit that will last, and is proven, with lifetime warranty.

That does look like a decent, clean starter tool kit. I'll note that it's very automotive-oriented. It has no screwdrivers, locking pliers, hammer, tape, or adjustable wrench. You can't do a range of basic household tasks with that kit (eg. loose door knobs, saucepan handles, or change a leaking float valve in your toilet cistern).

Also, it has no zip ties. :p

$99 is more affordable than $220 ($389 regular price). If you can only afford to spend $100 on tools in a "good enough" scattershot kit that should have the right-enough tool for most jobs in the house and car, then this Topto deal doesn't seem bad. I'd hate using many of these tools, but then I can afford better. I couldn't always though.

Long story, but that's why it gets an approval from me.

        • +2

A living wage? Topto sells absolutely bottom-rung garbage, whilst profiting off of the slave labour of Chinese peasants…and we're supposed to feel sorry they get called out for being shonky as well? Stop excusing shitty rep behaviour & dodgy selling tactics. Just because it's been done before, doesn't make it OK.

@Ham Dragon: You're putting words in my mouth.

There's so much wrong with what you said that your words seem entirely disingenuous. You're covering it up with some impassioned outrage so that no one looks too closely.

It's clear that there's no conversation possible with you.

  • +1

Wait you're counting individual zip ties and heat shrink?

    Bugger off.

  • +3

The title is misleading, as mentioned by others a lot of the items aren't actually "Professional Tools".

Ozbargain is a website for sharing bargains, it's not meant to be used for false advertising to try & profit from the community.

  • Landfill material

  • +2

90% of the part count is taken up by heat shrink tube, zip ties and screws

I bought my pack of 500 zip ties for $5, does that mean I can tie three packets together and sell it as a 1500 pcs professional tool kit?

  • +2

    Misleading and advertising

  • +2

Lol @ 1100+ pieces and more than 50% of that total are consumables like cable ties and heat shrink…

    Negging because misleading.

    • +1

      It's more like 95% (500 x Zip ties + 280 x shrinkable tubes + 243 x Fasteners / 1180).
