  • For 199, much better than your standard Ozito option

yeah but extra batteries are insanely expensive and reviews aren't great https://www.productreview.com.au/listings/aeg-bsb18cbmk-252c

I've got an AEG kit of hammer drill, bit driver, grinder & circular saw which I bought in 2018 (a bargain from OzBargain). I use the drill, grinder and bit driver almost daily.

It works fine. The only fault I can see is that the drill chuck is starting to wear.

      • Hey look, it's me!

I've had the exact same experience, down to the drill chuck issue (it grips fine, just every now and then it won't chuck the drill bits straight)

        • +2

You could replace just the drill chuck I think. I swapped mine over on some aldi cordless drills. They just had a single beefy screw (use an impact driver to remove) inside the chuck, it was reverse threaded.

    • +2

Almost pull the trigger. But after go through the reviews, I give up it.

      • I'm still using an older model that's working great for my DIY stuff but yeah some of those reviews on the chuck and stuff leave me wondering if build quality has gone downhill in the years since. Was eyeing these as a backup for my aging gear, but not if it's like that, despite the decent looking price.

    • +1

That's not the same kit at all tho

    • +2

      Not the same kit.

Reviewed kit has a plastic chuck on the drill and has a different design, driver is different, and it uses the old non-force batteries, and low-capacity 2.5Ah ones at that.

    • +1

They recently cleared out the 2ah Force batteries. I picked up 6 for $12.50 each.
Not going to be as much grunt as my 6ah but so much lighter in the hand.

      • Was Bunnings or the official AEG website cleared out the 2ah Force batteries?

        • +1

Bunnings. It was the specific force 2ah batteries.

          • @DarwinBoy: Thank you. Wait for the next Force batteries clearance at Bunnings.

            • +1

@audreamer: they also just cleared out the charger and 6ah battery for $100 but they are all gone now. Jump on the FB group and its good for getting the heads up on good deals.

  • +2

Use AEG At work all the time great tools they get handled harshly and keep up, agree batteries are dearer but you have to wait for the specials to come up, also use makita but cost a lot more for similar tools
With out looking deeper into this , I think batteries are Force not tools, I could be mistaken

    • +1

Correct, batteries are called Force. The tools are either just normal or the higher end tools are called Fusion.

Note on warranty, unlike Ozito and Ryobi where if they fail, its a straight on the spot replacement, with AEG, like other trade tools need a warranty claim, they send the tool away for repair.

      • +3

Could sending a tool away for repair, indicate a better corporate social responsibility? Less landfill and the concept of repair integrated into the tools lifecycle.

        • +2

For what it's worth I recently received a survey from AEG asking how I feel about basically this, also about using recycled plastic, cardboard packaging instead of plastic, etc.

      • +1

I'm on the AEG Facebook page and some locations do a swap. Some people have had good experience with local reps doing swaps.
When I had a battery fail my local sent me to a service centre and I did have to wait a few weeks but got a new battery out of it.

  • Great deal, looks like these tools are a step up from the ones I've had for ~4 years and still going strong.

  • +6

If there's anyone on the Sunshine Coast who has an AEG skin they could lend me, I'd be happy to have a crack at making a 3D printed ozito to AEG battery adapter.

    • +1

      That is very cool!

  • I want to know the hype with milwaukee

    • +1

Project Farm on YouTube does some really good reviews of tools. He's US based but generally we have the Ryobi, Milwaukee and Dewalt version here, also the 'Rigid' brand is AEG. More often than not the Milwaukee seems to do the best, although they are more expensive.

      • I bought a supposedly good 36v impact driver, it couldn’t beat a 24v

        • +1

Ok. What brand was it? I think Milwaukee generally do 12v & 18v - never seen 36v.

          • @albot: i didnt buy milwaukee, it was hikoki but it faired pretty badly

            • @sunnyc: ah, good to know. I've wondered about Hikoki.

              • @albot: it was cheap though $129 for a 36v impact driver, essentially a 18v 5ah battery and charger. Except the line was cleared and they refunded me so i got a free battery and charger. Should've bought a few more lol,Bunnings refused to sell me the driver

            • +1

@sunnyc: Hikoki and Bosch does not excel in power, but more of accuracy.

I love project farm channel, he does not often have hikoki.

But from Bosch, often the finish come out on top.

My 2c, I'm not sure there is any hype.
Their cheap tools are ok but not immortal. Just like everything.

They cornered the lithium battery with brushless motor market super early, the Milwaukee ecosystem beat it's competitors to the punch.

I've pulled apart higher end Milwaukee batteries and the 18650 cells are top quality but differ from their 4.0ah ones. PM me if you want the cell details from 18v 9.0ah, 8.0ah 6.0ah etc. And 12v varieties.

The stuff works as advertised except for the 18v drill chucks not holding large and smaller bits.

I'm not a big Milwaukee fan, I wouldn't recommend them over Panasonic or even as low as Bosch professional

I've tried almost everything they have to offer from pruning shears to the $3500 18V Overhead Cable Cutter
But the ecosystem and range is the hype. Sometimes their tools are just lighter than a industry specific manufacturer who uses Makita batteries. Doesn't make them better but if you're in an EWP or working from a ladder, weight matters.

Most of my stuff is Bosch professional but I absolutely love some of the bargain 18v and 36v ozito gear they've been making lately. Tough stuff for the price but watch out for the weight of hand held power tools

*Edit I don't use ozito tools for any real work. Just impressed with the price and manufacturing quality recently I mostly have Bosch blue and Milwaukee 12v fuel stuff for convenience of having a bag of tools which can get me through a specific task (some of is almost 8years old now. My employer uses Milwaukee 18v.

    • Owned by / made by same company that makes AEG & Ryobi. So they design for Milwaukee > AEG > Ryobi. I will let others post about whether it turns out that way in practice.

    • Milwaukee are extreme workhorses.
In my job we use the tools more than tradies would sometimes.
they drop, they get smashed, they get wet, muddy, you name it.
In some days, we use the impact drivers for a full 4-8 hours straight on and off.
One of the milwaukees we have, have taken off 1 hectare worth of roofing and ended up with about 500kg of tekscrews no problem.

  • Thanks legend. Been eyeing these and similar off for a while. Happy to pull the trigger on $199. My local already had no stock.

Just wondering what'd be better for a DIY house use, this deal or the one from yesterday? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/757371

    • +2

I'd go with the AEG, an impact driver is great for driving screws, reduces cam-out with Phillips and is less force on your wrist, but very noisy.

And although the AEG only comes with the one battery you're unlikely to do enough work DIY to drain a 4ah and immediately need another.

Edit: also it doesn't look like that DeWalt drill comes with a side handle, which is good to have for drilling bigger holes or using hole saws/spade bits.

      • Forgot to mention I've got Dewalt line trimmer with 2AH battery, was thinking about getting just a battery but they're as expensive as half of the set I linked. My reasoning towards Dewalt is basically extending the time I can use the trimmer + I'm not really sure how much real benefit will Impact driver provide over hammer drill.

        • +1

In that case you may well be better off with the dewalt, 4ah battery would double the time you can use your line trimmer, and they're often able to put out more power too.

      • Just a single AEG brushless Impact Driver will cost about $130-150 plus, and it is skin only.

    • AEG used to make great 14.4v cordless industrial tools.
They don't anymore but I'd be happy with either. Personally, I'd just buy ozito because other than a nice case, you won't get any added value from AEG.

Anyone have any comments on this mitre10 deal, mainly the impact specs? A quick google search gave me nothing and luckily I stumbled on this post before dragging myself down to the shop to have a proper look at it.

  • +3

This is good for people already on AEG platform, and needs an extra battery and replacing their impact driver or drill.

If you are new to the platform, having only one batty will be frustrating.

    • Tempted to buy for an extra battery and charger.
Wonder if I could flog the skins off on marketplace for some cash

      • Makita, Milwaukee, goes very fast on second hand market, Bosch Blue goes alright.

As for AEG, you can always try, not much to loose at this price point.

      • If you do, don't waste peoples time with only knocking $20-30 off. Without warranty and extended warranty from online registration, I suggest 50% reduction of RRP but up to you.

        • I didn't end up purchasing this kit. But yeah I would be happy with getting $100 bucks back, meaning an extra battery and charger only would cost $99

        • Mate if people will pay it, he can charge what he wants, even more than RRP

Nothing to do with wasting people’s time.

  • +2

Anyone have any comments on this mitre10 deal,

I'd pony up for the AEG. Mitre 10 is 1 yr warranty, 1.5ah battery, unknown brand with limited options to build a system around that battery platform.
Then this weird statement "comes with 2 batteries, one of which is the lithium-ion version with 1.5Ah of runtime" What's the 2nd battery nicad 1ah?

  • If there is a new model coming, why are the individual drills costing $250 each still?

    • I only assumed so cause it’s so cheap. I’ve updated the post

    • They dropped the price of the hammer drill to $150 (skin only) at my local

    • These kits come out at random times then get deleted. It's the best time to buy.
I've only bought my gear when it's deleted and scored some great deals.
All my gear was at least 50% off retail so super happy
I follow the AEG FB users page so keep up when people see something cheap.

  • thanks OP!
Paid with PowerPass and got 5% off. Also paid with discounted gift cards so total come to $170

    • How much it costs for a PowerPass for a year ?

      • it's free. You need an ABN to sign up

        • Thanks!

  • +1

Don't need it, don't need it, I already have a 3 year old AEG Hammer Drill and Driver combo thats going well, but a extra battery would be good for the other tools, and a battery by itself is about $159, Force Starter Kit is $199 (battery and charger) this comes with a drill and driver also…I think I talked myself into it. I need to stop looking at Ozbargain.

    • You should get 2 of them. Fight me.

    • $189 with PowerPass.

  • Just picked this up. It’s an unbelievable upgrade from my Ryobi. Unsurprisingly….

    • How much more powerful do u think it is ? dads checking whether it’s worth the upgrade from his Ryobi set

      • +2

I have no concept of how to measure it or give you something useful. The Ryobi feels like a kids toy comparatively. My only regret is not ditching the Ryobi sooner.

    • +1

i tried the cordless ryobi grinder years ago. was underwhelmed and stuck with my corded Makita. My old man bought up his cordless AEG grinder a year so so later and once i used that i was sold. It did take about 12 months before i saw one in a kit on clearance but scored a circular saw as well thats pretty good.

  • Thanks OP. bought and very happy. Great quality
