Hi All,

This kit seems to be pretty good value for the average punter looking for a battery powered drill. It looks like an older model and I can't find many specs on the drill itself, but 2x Dewalt 4AH batteries, charger and drill for under $200 seems like pretty good value?

"With this kit you can take it all with you. 2 x 4.0Ah battery packs gives you plenty of drill time out in the field. The 18V XR Li-Ion Brushless Compact Hammer Drill Driver Kit – 4Ah, includes a heavy duty TSTAK kit box and a multi-voltage XR charger.

Good deal considering there's 2 batteries that cost $125 from bunnings. This is cheaper than buying 2 individual batteries, plus you also get a drill and charger.

  • nice, but i need makita though. i need a makita battery deal like ozito.

Not bad deal if you need those batteries. If you need a new kit, this large battery is probably too heavy to use with a drill. A drill doesn't use that much battery, usually you could get away with a smaller battery that is easier to work with.

Seriously doubt a 4ah would be too heavy, I've been using a 6ah flexvolt with my dewalt hammer drill and had no issues. Actually prefer it over the single layer 3ah battery I have, anecdotally seems to have a bit more oomph with the 6ah.

      • +2

Its not anecdotal, a 6ah has twice the current capacity of a 3ah battery

        • Probably unintentional, but I don't think you mean "current". It's generally true that the 6ah has more current, but it's not 6 = double the 3 battery. It has approximately double the watt-hours. But where the 6ah shines is having a lot more "grunt" for the high torque applications, particularly as the battery drains it maintains a lead over the 3ah.

That said the 3ah is still a good battery, the 2 and under are for only very light use.

      • All I had were flexvolts for the first 2 years, never found the weight or size an issue until I scored a couple of 5ah 18v in bonus deals and realised how much nicer it is too work with the smaller battery on drivers and drills.
Keeping a keen look out for powerstak deals.

      • it can be too heavy if you are drilling above your head

    • +1

The weight difference between a 4ah and 2ah is around 270 grams. I get if you are using it overhead for extended periods you want whatever is lightest, but I don't think the weight would matter for most people, and if you are using it as a hammer drill you'll go through small batteries very quickly. Fifteen years ago or so I had a 24v Dewalt with NiMH batteries and would use all day every day. The batteries were like 1.5kg each, so it seems weird seeing lithium batteries referred to as too heavy to use.

  • 4AH in these is fine weight wise.

2 is a little more pleasant in an impact driver, which I note this kit doesn’t contain.

Costco occasionally (at least when I got mine) do the drill/driver/2x 4AH combo for like $240.

    • powerstack ftw

  • Wonder if Bunnings will match or do an equivalent offer

  • Awesome deal, thanks OP.

  • Nice deal. thanks OP

  • Any recommended drill bit sets to go with this?

  • Excuse the silly question. Can this also be used to just do normal screws? eg: screws for flatpack ikea furniture?

  • Tossing up between this and the AEG deal

    • +1

I went with the Dewalt deal, I've got line trimmer from dewalt so 2 extra 4AH batteries will work like a charm, and I figured there's not much benefit of me owning impact driver since I'm probably gonna use it maybe once every couple of months :)

      • Thanks. How’s the trimmer?

        • +1

Pretty good actually, I’ve had it for nearly a year, been using it with a small battery only but it managed to go through 10sqm backyard without using additional lawn mower. I guess when combined with 4ah it will be more than enough :)
