They've been in decline for a long time, although I was pleasantly surprised that the Fractal Pop Air has a stealth 5.25" bay.
I long ago transitioned my internal Blu-ray drive to an external unit — I still use it for ripping my discs. For my custom NAS/server, I used a Fractal Define XL R2 and specifically chose it for its spaciousness and the multiple 5.25" bays which I use for 3.5" HDD hotswap slots.
only mesh is worth it
I do prefer the mesh but this case in general is fantastic.
I probably commented the same in the last deal of this case, but it really is a very high quality case for the price. Super easy to build in (more so if you have a M-atx motherboard. Included fans are relatively unremarkable though. Running mine with a 240mm corsair aio and a Ryzen 7 5800x, which still stays below 70 degrees on a warm summer day.
Have the Mesh II which looks to be the same chassis as this case. If so the case is well designed with some nice features - good cable management especially with a centre channel running down the motherboard plate; butterfly opening glass panels is useful and if required can be lifted off the hinges; included fans are pretty quiet. Only gripe is the metal cover plate intended to hide side cable entry can interfere with the cables and routing cables from the bottom compartment to the board and gpu, espcially power cables can be tight.
The included fans are three pin, but my LGA1700 motherboard only has four pin fan connections. So I am waiting on a fan hub and/or a four pin fan cable to be run directly from the power supply.
So a comment is that for a relatively new builder such as I, the instructions are not ideal.
Happy to be corrected but I believe the 4th pin on the fan connection is for fan control and feedback. Traditionally for case fans this isn't a feature so the three pin on the fan should be able to still connect to the 4 pin on the motherboard - just use pins 1-3 (pwr, grnd and signal) or whatever the motherbard manual specifies. CPU fans on the other hand frequently use the 4 pin connectors and these pins are usually labelled accordingly on the motherboard.
Check your motherboard manual again, you'll probably find those 4 pin sockets can take 3 pin fans…
shame its not the mesh, this front panel is just too restrictive
Lancool mesh 2 so good that it even beat its successor by slight margin
Lancool Mesh II da best case I ever have had.
would this suit an AM5 motherboard?
yes it fits itx, m-atx and atx motherboards
THIS CASE…is the best I've ever had! Absolutely love it [as the RGB effect is minimalist] Looks fantastic…I was running a 5950X on a Taichi x570 board with an RTX 3080, Aorus 360 RGB Cooler with 128 GB DDR 4 3600 G.Skill Neos…WOW!
Temps always in low 40ºs, quiet…very easy to build in…highly recommended.
FWIW…I did buy the Mesh II model after initial build in this case…but stayed with the Lancool II and on-sold the Mesh II…I still a a BNIB Lancool II in my storage unit…just in case!
Did I say I recommend this case??
No 5.25" bays. I had wondered when that day would come.
