These packs can be used to buy the long term plans, hence the 6 months would only cost $45 in total while the $150 would come down to $130 (by using a discounted $40 pack).

    • @fozzie can these be used for the 6 month recharges of long term plans ?

      • I think so from what I have read on here (I haven’t personally done it).

    • Hi, can you explain in more detail how to do this? I want to buy the $150 yearly plan.

      • +4

Hi, my understanding is once you register the new sim you can add the other $110. I have never done it though, hopefully someone who has can confirm.

        • +5

Yes, you can choose year plan when you activate sim, have to pay the difference $110.

          • @couger: Ok, thanks for that

            • @nix1016: Nb This works to get the plan cheaper, but the data gets reset

Doesn’t work, says “ Moving from a 30 day Prepaid plan to a 1 year prepaid phone plan?
Moving from a 30 day Prepaid plan to a Long Expiry plan is easy! Simply recharge your service via our Mobile App or the recharge page on our website. It is important to note that when moving from a 30 day plan to a Long Expiry plan, you will forfeit (lose) any unused data from your 30 day plan. This includes unused plan included data, bonus data, data that has been gifted to you and Data bank.”

              • @jaxon: My understanding is that you are moving from monthly to yearly, but activating the yearly directly by adding the difference.
Hence there won’t be any data lost, just new allowance (depending on what you activate)

          • @couger: no you cannot, I just tried. The initial 40$ recharge is activated no matter what and nothing is asking to change the plan afterwards.

            • @aik: Hi, so you cannot purchase the yearly plan for $110 after you activate the $40 monthly plan?

            • @aik: Damn, I was going to do that. Were you porting over?

              • @MeesusEff: yes, ported the number and bought esim, if that matters

              • +1

@MeesusEff: You can but only with in store sim

                • @fozzie: You mean physical sim? I don't mind waiting for it to get delivered, tried esim once and didn't quite get it lol

                  • @MeesusEff: I don’t whether online physical will work. People have reported in store sims work. Not sure if the online one will work.

        • +5

I purchased the $40 sim today and activated it just now as a 'new member' (will be using for 2nd phone data). During the activation process a screen comes up giving you the option to activate that $40 plan, OR choose to have the $40 applied to the higher $65/$150/$200 plans (the button to click on under each of those higher plans is shown as [Upgrade]. I only wanted the $40 plan, so I don't know what happens once you click on the other Upgrade links.

          • +4

@macola51: I can confirm. I purchased the $40 sim in store today for $20. I selected the 6 month $65 option during activation (options for other higher plans also available). They then charged me an additional $25 for a total cost of $45.

            • @Alienator: so it's esim and buying online which is the problem. the support just says it's impossible to convert the deal into long term plan.

              • @aik: I think it only works with the physical sim because stores have limited starter packs, so they let you convert to the plan you want when you activate. The store I went to had none of the long expiry starter packs.

                • @Alienator: can you convert sim to esim later?

                  • @aik: I haven't tried yet but there is an option to change to esim in the Woolworths Mobile App.

            • @Alienator: Thanks for confirming :)
Pretty good then, any idea how long we have to activate sim?

              • +2

@fozzie: The packet I got says "SIM must be activated within 60 days of purchase."

            • +1

@Alienator: Great choice. Best bang for the buck. There'll be better bargains in 6 month time.

          • +1

@macola51: I just started process with a free $10 I got from Woolies a while ago. It gives me option to upgrade to the $150 by adding $140.
But as others have commented must be a physical sim and not an esim.
Hence better to get a $20 pack (even better if you have the 10% to use so it will be $18) in store if you find it. Then the $150 plan will only cost $130 the first year.

    • Can you pay the difference using Gift cards upon activation?

  • Note that postage times are ridiculous!
Ordered Jan 18, postal mark of 25 Jan, received yesterday, 13 Feb!

    • In that case do you still qualify for cashback if you used a cashback website?

      • +1

        I got it refunded.
Need it last week and assumed 3+ weeks would be sufficient before my existing plan ran out.

    • I ordered a yearly 100gb sim on the 30th of January and got an email saying there was an error on the 10th of February. Woolworths said that it'll ship early next week and that a gift card would be given. Haven't gotten any dispatch email and gift card yet, hopefully it'll come in the next week or so.

      • Received the sim card and $5 e-gift card today and ported within half an hour. Shipping was a bit slow, but what can you do

  • Who is the actual carrier? I need to port out of telstra and get back in for the jb deals..

    • +2

Telstra, jb deals normally exclude belong and boost, woolworths and aldi is ok as they are not owned by telstra.

    • Is it the full Telstra network ?

      • Telstra wholesale network

        • Whats the difference?

          • +2

@1Kenobi: Only Boost and Telstra themselves use the full Telstra network. Wholesale network has a tad low coverage area.

All Telstra Mobile Virtual Network Operators (MVNOs) run on the Telstra wholesale network with the exception of Boost Mobile. While Telstra’s full network reaches 99.5% of the population the wholesale version covers 98.8%. It might not seem like a huge difference, but it means that Telstra MVNOs may not be an option for customers in rural areas.
            Ref: Here

            • +1

@megadeth: Only a million sq Km difference, but sure, lets go with a tad.
1.6 million sq Km according to Belong, 2.6 million sq Km according to Boost

i will tell you to do something before you sign up to this:

    call their support line,

because guess what? there isn't one. so it's all fine until you need support.
they actually told me on the phone that this is the case, i think it was billing department - of course they have staff for that.

    • There isn't a "billing department", and the contact number is listed on the website at https://mobile.woolworths.com.au/support

      • That link doesn't have a contact number though?

        • Click on "Contact Us" and it'll send you to a page with our contact number

      • what's the number then?

        so i can call it

i was signed up to this, when i had problems they told me that they dont have anyone i can speak to, just some virtual assistant bullshit

Number is on centre of page ;)

          • @snappy1234: look mate, just trying to share my experience.

there simply is no support, if you google that number it's for woolworths rewards or some crap

join them and find out for yourself.

they virtually told, quote unquote, there is nobody you can speak to about tech issues with this service, i ported out withint 24 hours.

            cheers

@Nilfunds: Fair enough all good no need to neg is there ?

Just put the link for anyone to find :)

    Telstra network ✅
    Volte and vowifi ✅
    Esim ✅

  • Can you port to this from boost or as both are on Telstra will there be issues?

    • +1

      I just did.

      • +1

Thanks mate this helps me a lot

  • Do these have expiry?

  • Can it be used as a recharge voucher? I.e. if I need a plan for 3 months - can I buy 3 of these?

    • I bet not; they're starter packs. But, you can hop in and out every month.

  • Just to clarify, if I get the large starter pack I get 104Gb of data then activate it on the $150 plan - the data is banked together and I have 204gb for $130? That’s $20 (after discount) + $110 top up to get the $150 plan added? Just trying to work out the rules and language on data banking

    • +1

Wouldn't think so - if you activate it on the $150 plan, you should only be getting the inclusions of the $150 plan.

      • Yep “ Moving from a 30 day Prepaid plan to a 1 year prepaid phone plan?
Moving from a 30 day Prepaid plan to a Long Expiry plan is easy! Simply recharge your service via our Mobile App or the recharge page on our website. This includes unused plan included data, bonus data, data that has been gifted to you and Data bank.”

        • I think what you've quoted refers to if you've already activated a 30 day plan and want to switch to a long expiry plan (say from the second month onwards). Whereas what Jasonethel wants to do appear to be activate the prepaid sim directly onto a long expiry plan when they first activate the sim.

    • If you buy physical sim @$20 you can top up to a 1 year buy you’ll only get 100gb. If you need extra data either get the $200 pack (currently $180 online)

  • +1

BTW, CR gives $6 and SB only $5.50, in this instance on $40 SIM.

  • If you activate the sim against a long term plan you get $40 off the plan cost, you also get the specified data for that plan. That is, you don't get double data or any data deals.

  • If I pick up a $2 Sim Pack instore can I use that blank sim for one of these offers?

  • Is Cashback valid on esims?

  • How well would this work in like regional minesites?

  • These double data Sims are good for a couple of months. You get 216 G for $60 to be used in 2 months. If you are planning to build up a big data bank and then move to a lower priced prepaid forget it. If you move to a lower plan you forfeit any accumulated data. Cunning… Good for a few months of intensive internet though. For 3 months you can have 324 G for $100…

  • So I got the 2x32GB one for $15 (thanks OP), moving away from Boost (who wouldn't give me the targeted discount on the recharge); now what? How do I make this deal last? Switch again in a month? Or can I somehow smoothly transition to an yearly plan at around the same $15/mo cost?

    • The appeal of woolworths it’s the 10% off your shopping. So you shouldn’t move from their network or you’ll loose the discount.
You can switch to a year but you’ll loose any banked data from the monthly. 100gb yearly is $150 while 180gb is $200.

  • Offer ends 7/3/2023.

  • I just activated. How do I know when I can use the 10% off shop?
I can't see any prompts in the portal or anywhere.

  • Could I buy the $20 104gb pack as a new customer, then take out a second service and data gift 104gb to a 365 day prepaid plan?

Just looking for a long term data sim for my laptop.

    • Why didn't I think of that?! 😲

      • Waitaminute…

If you’re nearing the end of your recharge, you can gift up to 50% of your unused data to your friends and family who are also with Woolworths Mobile using our Data Gifting feature.

        • That's what I'm thinking. I wonder if I have to get my partner to sign up and then go back to me in order for it to work?

Or if it doesn't work between 30 day and 365 day.

Also wonder if 50% will mean 52gb, since it's doubled. Or if the bonus 52gb doesn't count towards gifting.

If so, an extra 52gb for $20 for a year is still pretty good value.

          • @snoopydoop: Still, it's not a bad idea. If you're tethering your lappy to your phone, and your phone takes dual SIM — as mostly all now do? — keep an annual plan with your permanent number, and direct all data to a 2nd monthly SIM — usually a starter pack on sale — being sure to gift any remaining data to the main annual SIM.

            • +1

@wisdomtooth: Actually just got a laptop with a SIM card space! So don't even need the calls.

I've got 80gb data on my phone with Optus which I never use, but don't think I can data share with my old plan anymore (even though it says I can in my critical information summary, they seem to have switched it out so you can only data share with old plans?)

My Optus plan is pretty expensive at $40 a month, but it includes 4gb roaming and unlimited calls and texts roaming in most countries, which isn't offered anymore, so feel like I shouldn't leave.

So pretty much want something cheap as possible to stick in my laptop. Maybe I should just wait for another free boost sim!
But your plan with the dual sim would be a great plan if it works. You'd have a whole year to keep an eye out for another sale to data share with yourself.

  • Expired 👇🏻

There is currently double data on the medium and large plans, making them 64GB and 104GB respectively. Data is doubled on activation and the next 5 recharges for new customers only.
