Which Is The Highly Recommended Perfume for Men?

Hi folks,

I’m not even sure if men should wear perfume but I do have friends use it daily. What is your thought?

I know it is a shame but as I normally am, I don’t feel embarrassed to confess it.

I have been currently gone a radically personal change. I mean it. I was very casual and negligent when it comes to my personal care. For instance, I bought a couple of cheap pants and shirts and use them for in between 3 to 5 years or until it no longer usable. It costs me less than $100 a year in average for my clothes include my uniform. I paid like $200 for three sets of uniform four years ago and I’m still using them now. Yeah that was me. No watch nor jewellery, no fancy clothes nor hair styles, etc. all these actually are sabotaging me very subtly and I didn’t realise it until recently. Even some small clothing stores don’t want to welcome me even I’m not financially broke in anyway but physically.

After I had it enough and someone taught me a life lesson, I decided to completely revamp myself. I have done what I should but now it comes to fragrance. I’m not sure if I should use it or not. Any suggestions are highly appreciated.

I’m considering to use perfume as I sometimes get sweat during a sweltering day. Even I work in a professional setting, I need to travel which makes me sweat. Although the sweat doesn’t cause any unpleasant smell (I did check myself and asked my friends), I believe adding a pleasant smell would make things better for me especially when it comes to engaging with professional people.

Any suggestions as to which perfume is good or the best but not with a very strong smell for me would be highly appreciated. Price is not an issue.

Cheers,
V

    Lynx Africa

    • Can someone explain to me why this is the only deo that has ever worked for me? Even other lynx flavours don't work. What's going on with this stuff?

PS I love Dior Homme Intense eau de parfum.

      • lynx flavours

Did you try applying rather than ingesting?

    • I have like 6 cans of this stuff that people keep gifting me.

I wear cologne daily. You don't need to use much but I think a little goes a long way!

I used to always wear BVLGARI Aqva but it seems impossible to source locally now.

I'm using Paco Rabanne 1 Million now. I like it.

    • Would try the later one if it worths it. Thanks mate

Try a bunch on and see what sits in your skin best. A brand that works well on some may not work well on others

For me I love La Labo fragrances. As a heads up they’re not cheap and never really discounted

    • La Labo seems to have everything I need, thanks for the recommendation.

Thanks for sharing your story below and hope it all works out for you

Santal (in winter) and Bergamote (in summer) are my favorites. I tend to use them on special occasions and not everyday (Aesop and Paul Smith have those duties). For what it’s worth I have received a lot of compliments wearing the Le Labos. You don’t need to use much and it lasts for ages (I’d use about half of what I’d use of the others). Try it out on your skin for a day and then see how you like it before you buy (give it time and it changes how it sits as the day goes on).

Perfume is nice but more importantly make sure you're using a deodorant. Roll on at a minimum. Then either an aerosol spray or a perfume. I still like Cool Water for men. It's generic but good for work and is pleasant overall.

Was going to recommend Cool Water as well - even our daughters buy it for their dad now!

Can I ask you what the life lesson was? (Don't share if too personal). Self improvement is good and good on you for recognising there may have been something that you were doing that was holding you back.

I have nothing to hide but I can only make it short.

You know what? Even my wife and I have been married for almost 12 years, I never feel she has ever loved me for a minute even we both agreed to start the marriage. I never understood what was the rational behind to the point that we wanted to divorce. To save the situation, I knew she wanted a house for security reason, I worked my ass off and disregarded my life and my personal care, I eventually bought a house for her which costed me almost 2m two years ago. You know what I got from her? She said she didn’t insist on it :). Don’t get me wrong, she is great just that I’m not the right person for her.

Until recently, I had it enough, she and I agreed to sign a temporary divorce agreement just so she can continue to live here as she is my dependent. We will finalise it once she gets her PR. I agreed to that as I feel
I owe her that she decided to marry me while she had a better choice. I even agreed to give her the house and everything we have once things get finalised as stated in the temporary agreement. I’ll leave her without taking anything in the last day. That agreement doesn’t seem to help me in anyway but that’s fine as it was/is my willingness.

Later then someone reminded me of my negligence of my personal care. I turned myself into a fatty monster like and dressed very casually which made me unattractive to even my so-called wife. The same issue happens when I visit a store or a restaurant or even my workplace but I didn’t care as they don’t matter to me. I was once looked down by a Coles store manager just because of my causal dress :).

Then I decided to make a radical change. I’ve been doing exercise and lost 15kg in two months. Now I’m a lot fitter but still 80kg/173cm. I’ve bought many nice clothes and eat only healthy foods. And then she seems to change her attitude towards me after I’ve done many changes but it is too late as I won’t turn back once to decide to do anything.

Lesson: no one cares about you if you don’t do to yourself.

As things have been decided, I need to accept them and take them as a lesson then move on with a better me.

That’s a long short story about me 😛

        Sorry, but Yikes.

Wish someone could whisk me off to another country where I didn't have to work and get given a $2mil house.

        • +1

I wish too :). But unfortunately we are of the same gender, sorry 😢

          • @vchar: How do you know that ?

      • +4

You are being used for a house and PR. Go now, take what is yours.

        • +2

Nah, we were married before we even decided to come here and she was very kind. She doesn’t want them but I insisted to give her because she chose me in the past. I just want to ensure she will have a good life if not great in the future so that I will feel peace and will be at ease. Plus, I don’t need them and it is a lot easier for me to earn them again than her in the future.

In short, she is a bit naive to let her family involve our marriage life.

          • +1

@vchar: You sound like s good person that has forged a better path forward for yourself and I wish you all the luck in this world. You're able to see what others have given you and what you have lacked in and honestly it's quite refreshing. Good on you with the weight loss, it must feel great. Sometimes big changes give us an opportunity to really change ourselves, or we ignore it, but you have done it.

      • Don't light yourself on fire to keep her warm

I like RL Polo Sport. Need to hunt for it, still available on Amazon.

    • +1

Found the OG here…im surprised Aus retail doesnt have it on sale. This is still being sold overseas under the Loreal umbrella. It is not discontinued.

    • Used to love RL Polo Sport Extreme… hard to find nowadays, and usually quite expensive.

Wear deodorant, and if you sweat regularly, shower twice a day. For professional situations that's enough.

If you're going to wear a fragrance make sure your deodorant is scentless or they'll clash.

Kouros is really nice, and not too fruity https://www.chemistwarehouse.com.au/buy/57853/kouros-eau-de-…

The biggest mistake that people make is that they inevitably put too much on. Your nose will adjust and you will stop noticing. If you keep adding more until you notice yourself it will be too overwhelming for everyone else. It is much better to have too little than too much. Less is more.

    • Yeah I get shower when never I could after sweating but it is a bit tricky when it happens at workplace. Thanks for the advices. Cheers

  • +2

Personally I use Baxter of California deodorant, it's subtle and sort of has a soapy smell so it just makes you smell 'fresh' without being too noticeable. If I'm not just hanging out at home or running errands I'll also wear some Aesop Hwyl.

    • I rarely use deodorant as I prefer to get a shower whenever I get sweat but I will have a try as you suggested. Thanks mate

If you are new to the game and you only need 1 for a long time. The most mass market appealing perfume on the market right now is Bleu de Chanel. You cant go wrong with this. It is a woody fresh type perfume which goes well in almost all settings, office, date, beach, construction site, fish market, where ever what ever. I have not met a single person that says it sucks.

Be wary, buying perfume can be an addiction.

    • Ok I’ll try it, thanks

  • +2

    Essence of Sweaty Concreter.

  • +2

Bleu de Chanel is a staple.

  • +1

I also vote for Blue de Chanel. I have one and is my go to perfume ( even though I have Dolce and Boss and few others).
Chanel is long lasting and only 1-2 spray does it for me. I still use deo as I sweat on hot days..
Also, as someone suggested getting into perfumes can be addicted and you then feel you never have enough 🙂

  • +2

Less is best. Whatever you use, a light spray, don't bathe in it!

    • Yeah I don’t intend to use it to replace taking shower 😛

  • +4

Issey Miyake L'Eau D'Issey is a classic. Affordable, fresh and long lasting.

  • it all depends.

you would have different scents for summer & winter, day & night, in the city or the beach, etc…

price is not an issue? well then buy them all.

oh, price is an issue now. lol

you also don't want to smell like everyone else. you need to find your signature scent by trying them all. don't pick one someone else likes. it won't smell the same on everyone because of heat and body chemistry.

i would start of with the cheaper price one, so you have nothing to lose. Even better if you like a scent at a budget discount so you don't have to break the bank to refill. cheap price doesn't always mean cheap performance.

right now we are in summer, i would look into lighter coloured bottle and aqua scents.

This should get you started, and it is a fun journey.

    • That’s a fair call. I actually planned to try as you mentioned but I’m very dumb and I have no clue about fragrance thus come to ask you folks. At least, I could get some ideas as to what I should try. I don’t mind to spend, I really mean it as my weekly expense hardly makes any dense on my weekly income. However, I’m not after something Rolex-like 😛.

    Polo Blue does me alright.

Just go to a store and have a browse then pick what you like.

    Sex Panther by Odeon

It's made with bits of real panther, so you know it's good.

      It’s a formidable scent

Dude, best life is lived dressed in simple plain clothes rather than trying to set some exaggerated impression of yourself.

One of the things I missed since coming to Australia is men smelling sexy. It's more widespread now. Deodorant first, aftershave second. My husband has a collection of various I bought for him. My favourite at the moment is Dior Savage Elixir. Myer is great for men scents sales.

  • +1

    Drakkar Noir

If no stock, try Lagerfeld Photo. Almost as good.

  • +2

Acqua Di Gio By Giorgio Armani is always a reliable every day cologne for me.

  • +1

I'm a big fan of Coach Platinum.

Perhaps head to Myer/DJ's and try on a bunch over a few days to see what works for you. You need to try it on your skin as it develops differently than on the paper sample cards.

  • +1

Great story OP, good luck with your personal transformation👍

Just remember, with fragrance, it should be discovered, not announced.

    All the best :)

  • +2

Chemist Warehouse has good deals and cheaper than Myer Or DJs. They may not stock all brands, but worth checking out.

  • +1

I like the Lynx Movember deodorant, unfortunately they discontinued it, and the supply of several 6 packs that I bought will probably run out by the end of this year, but woman seem to love that scent. Now if only I could find something that smells similar to it (people mistake it for expensive aftershave, lol).

  • +2

iirc neutral is a very good smell for men, especially if you are in IT lol Clean is the best, you can be fancy but it's also risky because fashion can be rather opinionated. Depending on your age, eating well can be attractive too. The most important part is how all of it makes you feel. Buy the most expensive underwear and pajamas if they make you feel a million dollars and go cheap on the business shirt. It's never about how your look to anyone but yourself. I have not turned down men by the count of holes in their t-shirt (it's usually communication).

    • +1

that sounds right, thanks and cheers
