I was just about to buy it as we have one and could use a second, but the description says refurbished :( I almost missed it too as it's not in the title.

While I've had no problems with mine, there has been comments from many others about issues. I'd be happy to buy a new one, but with that in mind I don't think I want to risk it on a refurbished one

    • They’ve categorised it as “brand new” as well.

    • It says "Brand new" next to condition and in the description for me.

Maybe they are just recycling the info page?

A lot of previous deals for the fan from the same seller and none of them say refurbished.

      • Hmm, you might be right. It does say new for condition but description says refurbished. It's anyone's guess then I suppose.

        • Yeah I mean I am thinking mods would have added "Refurbished" to the title if it actually was, otherwise the title would be misleading.

Edit: For some reason there is only one other deal from Lucky Mi eBay, even though I remember seeing more.
          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/product/viomi-smart-tower-fan
There is a "Electric Unicorn eBay" deal though, and stock comes from Lucky Mi they are both the same AU distributor for Xiaomi.

    • It's new.

      • How do you know? While it turned out that the condition actually says "new", the description has a big bold "refurbished".

        • +10

Because I organised the deal with them.

          • +1

            @Clear: Great, thanks for confirming

  • Does this work with 5G wifi or only 2.4Gz?

  • There is another seller for the same price and says it’s new.

      Yes they're both new.

  • Bought one thanks O.P :)

  • Yay. Been waiting for this.

Does anyone know of a deal below $100 for the Xiaomi Smartmi Pedestal Fan 3?
Xiaomi one is way better then this Viomi one right?

    • Xiaomi one is way better then this Viomi one right?

Yes but hard to find one under $100

  • Does this have battery also or just off mains power?

    • +1

      Mains

    • +1

Just mains. Both Kogan and Woolworths marketplace were selling it with specs copy-pasted from a Xiaomi Vaccuum cleaner that did make it seem like a model with battery.

    • +1

For what it's worth, this runs on 12V DC power, so you can easily modify it to run from a car battery or other source

  • I have been looking at fans at Bunnings. Anyone have experience with Bunnings around same price or is this still better than anything at Bunnings?

Interested mainly from working in the back room and moving cold aircon into the room or up the hallway

    • DC fans are far superior, and I doubt you'd find a DC fan at Bunnings for this price. Whether this is suitable for you or not is subjective. It's very small, which I find great (unobtrusive and easy to move etc), but which again is subjective.

      • Thanks. Forgot to check the size specs

      • DC fans are far superior,

Can you recommend one with a remote that doesn't beep? I bought one from Aldi and the fan itself is great but every time you change a setting on the remote it beeps loudly, which isn't very nice at 2am in the morning…

        • doesn't beep?

If it is Viomi, you can turn it off from Xiaomi Home app.

  • +2

my one started making cracking sound when swinging, the whole thing feels very cheap, only the grogram settings are great.

  • Is this compatible with Google, Alexa and the like? Hate getting out of bed to adjust the fan at night..

    • Shoudl be compatible but you can use the Mi App anyway

      • hates the mi app so much.
always need to wait long time for the app to update to current state, and cant seem to find anyway to have a widgets that has power sliders for the fan too. really wish they opened up the api and let the way better HS software take control.

        • Weird, it works fine on my phone.
On mine you can control the fan from the Google home app but only the ON-OFF part - any other function I need to use the Mi App

    • +1

It's not. I bought one thinking it was. It can be added to and controlled by the Mi Home app but doesn't get recognised by Google Home etc. even if you have linked your accounts.

I think the seller got called out in a previous deal (not sure if it was the same seller as this deal) and had to admit that the 'voice control' advertised was actually using Siri to control the app on your phone.

    • +1

Xiaomi skill isnt updated to work with the alexa/google apparently theres a home assistant workaround

So ive just ended up pressing buttons on the app

      • +1

Yep very annoying it doesnt work with google home. That whole point of voice control..

These things are hit and miss. I bought one from Aldi on Special Buys, and it had a noticeable vibration to it, so brought it back. Heard plenty of others complaining about the same issue, but also many who say they are happy with it. It would be a great fan if you're lucky to get one that doesnt vibrate. BTW, it was a lot smaller than I expected - the pictures are deceiving - you can put this thing on a desk or table.

    • Have had 5 and none vibrated. I do wonder if it might have something to do with precise positioning of the vertical stand into the base. There is a sticker talking about this and it's actually quite hard to get it just right. I can imagine that if it's not quite in, over time that could introduce an issue.

      • +2

The problem is in the shaft. I'm sure it's a quality control thing.

      • +1

mine is very quiet i only use it 10% or lower fan speed.
mine is on the carpet, wonder if that has something to do with noise.
I only found out a sock was sitting under the base 3 month into using it, so i dont think having a stable base or not to do with the noise lol.

      • It's not the stand. I have one. It's the fan blade and where the hole is. It's off by a few mm so it vibrates when it's powered on. So it's a quality control issue.

    • and it had a noticeable vibration to it,

I have 3 no problem, make sure you lock it very very tight

  • +2

Please be aware this one has no battery so it doesnt work cordless. I have the Xiaomi fan which is basically the same as this only with a battery, and the cordless function is the main benfit of this fan a sit becomes so versatile. Would rather spend a bit more for the battery version from Xiaomi.

  • Does this work with Homebridge so I can use it with Apple HomeKit and does it allow speed changes via voice?

Alternatively any native HomeKit pedestal fan recommendations would be great :)

  • +2

I'm too owned by mortgage rates + inflation otherwise I'd be getting like 2 of these instead of 0 :(

  • +3

Please mark as out of stock :'/

I was waiting for a deal like this but was too late.

  • What do guys think of the Dimplex 40cm fan: https://www.billyguyatts.com.au/dimplex-40cm-3-in-1-fan-dcpf…

It's bigger than the puny Viomi for not much more $$. I can't find a mention on Ozb or many reviews :-/

    • Not DC fan?

      • It has 8 speeds, I assume that's an indicator of DC?

        • Usually "whisper quiet" and "silent" description is also an indicator of DC motor.

Looks like a cheap, rough copy of the Breville AirDynamic 3D Connect Air Circulator, which is a ridiculous name and very expensive. I bought it on "sale", at around $200. Does circulate air better than normal fan. I don't use any of that wi-fi app rubbish, I wish it didn't have that. It's just a way for them to track usage and collect data. It already has remote control, no need for app.

This cheap Viomi fan…. who knows how well it will last, or whether it starts rattling a few months later. I wonder what the standby power usage is? These "smart" fans are always searching for WI-FI connection, which bumps up standby power usage.

  • 2yrs lifespan.

    Missed out. When restock?

  • Best fan i purchased in my journey.

  • i am a fan of this fan now.

  • its a very good fan
i just cant get it connected to google home!

    • I think only Xiaomi app

      • yeah usually you can pair it up

        • Didn't work with Google Home.

  • It's still sitting there "Ready for processing" since last Friday.

  • Has anyone received their order yet?

    • Nope, reached out and all I got was "It's been sent."

      • whiiiiiiiich auspost just confirmed that is has infact not been sent, just that a label was generated. Hmm.

    • +2

Yes, received mine today without any notification. Not overly impressed with it. Not sure what the fuss is all about. It’s also pretty small.

  • Opened it today. Mine is refurbished. Someone installed the fan head already and repackaged it.

    • -1

I believe some were repackaged into a new box by Panmi as the original box was damaged.
