    But 24 months, hmmm nay…

    • +56

yeah gross. What is this, a mortgage?

    • yes

    • +4

Is a Telstra plan on the Telstra network?

        • Amaysim and Coles Mobile customers have full Optus network access. Either way though, it's like asking if an Optus customer gets full Optus network access. Yes.. because they're an Optus customer.

          • +1

@dm02: No it’s actually a very fair question. Certain plans have better access than others. Some Telstra prepaid had 5g access recently whilst others didn’t. Sure this is postpaid but it’s always worth checking that any plan has full access to everything.

  • +1

If u take the gift card in face valu3 that comes to $43 per month for 300gb. Not for me as i dont use that much data on my phone.

    • might want to double check, but telstra use to have a no-fee if you cancelled in the 13th month (that was a long time ago)

      • Interesting…

      • they've since changed it, according to jb hifi the cancellation fee is half of the contract total cost plus the gift card value

    • -2

      Don’t get it then?

  • +9

Great deal if work is paying your monthly plan so you can just pocket the GC.

    • Oy! 😏

    • If they literally pay the bill it's ok. But if you get like $15 allowance, then this is still a bad deal, specially if you dont need the data

  • Is this similar as the pervious one but $100 gift card less?

  • +2

on an aside - interesting to note that Telstra is capping their download speed from April 2023 on their lower tier PrePaid plans ($40 per month and below). The speed limit is listed as 150mbps (not sure if megabit or megabyte though)

    • +6

It's not going to be megabyte

    • I guess more and more people are on the 5G network and tbh, compared to 2 years ago, it's beginning to get a little saturated the network. As well as opening up to MVNO (Boost)

    • +2

I'm kinda annoyed about it but at the same time I can't think of and real world case that 150mbps is a limiting factor. Our home internet is 100/40 and that's plenty quick.

    • +1

I see this as a price increase. They’ve moved from data limits (still in place) as a point of pressure to speed increase as a point of pressure and up sell.

How about 1) GFY 2) GFYx2 and 3) I thought 5G was cheaper to run and could handle more traffic better?! Hmmmmmmm

Screw these telcos. The only one I don’t mind is felix 20/20 unlimited. If it ain’t unlimited. Then it’s a price increase. And I don’t care about 5G at all if it’s “premium”. Cause it ain’t. I’ve used it and it’s barely noticeable difference in the real world.

    • You're kidding. 😭

    • I’m not really phased by the change myself - don’t see speed as a factor in using mobile data, it’s more stability and signal.

  • Will this work in a 4G or 5G home router? Is there anything on the Telstra side to block it?

    • Yep. I have one at home and no problem at all.

      • is it possible to use it on your mobile and also through a home modem at the same time? Through some data sharing capability?

        • I don’t think any JB Hi-Fi plans has data sharing/pooling.

    • +1

They’ve started blocking this at enterprise level. Pushing people to Enterprise Wireless. So whilst no at the moment- anything is possible.

  • +2

Hmmm Telstra still provides pretty dismal overseas roaming rates..

    • +1

That’s cause. They don’t care about you or competition 👍

  • Anyone know if this data plan can be datashared?

  • +1

    Too expensive!

  • +1

if I can get $20 back on top from Telstra chat then will get my brother onto this plan but the uncertainty of a Telstra rep saying yes is what is stopping me

    • This is $10 off already($99 plan down to $89), so switching to the $20 off will drop it to $79.

      • Uh then it shouldn't even be considered a deal

  • Hasn't JB changed to using their own plan nowadays? So it's a JB mobile plan powered by Telstra, you don't get Telstra's data sharing. Any other perks you miss out on? And is the service as reliable as going directly with Telstra?

    • Telstra hasn’t had data sharing since like 2016.

      • Can you clarify further? I'm using data sharing with Telstra right now (unless I am misusing that term). I have 2 services, a 400GB and a 30GB. Either service can use up to 430GB/Month (in the case of one service using 430GB, assume the other service used no data).

My primary mobile service is not currently with Telstra, and I am comfortable remaining with Telstra for 24 months as I already have a 19 month commitment due to one of the services being a black friday deal on the M6 Pro. I was considering going for this deal by porting in my primary mobile service, adding it to my account so all 3 services are pooled (total 730GB shared between all 3 services), then immediately dropping my existing 400GB plan down to a smaller one to return closer to the total data I currently have. In theory, all 3 services then share data. Am I missing something?

        • +1

As @timotisan said above, this is really just a JB plan powered and managed by Telstra, so no data sharing with any other direct Telstra plans. The service however is reliable as going directly with Telstra.

          • @FOX: I see! Thanks for the clarification. That's a shame as that was very close to working out perfectly for me!

            • +1

@NonCents: It’s not a jb powered plan. It’s just a telstra plan on siebel. Called jb and good guys plan. It’s a normal telstra plan, just not on console(where the updront plans are). Specifically made for jb and good guys but still normal telstra.

        • +1

How old is that plan? Or are you with Business.
I’m looking at the schedule plan specs at the moment, and no current plans have data sharing available in them in consumer?
The last time I saw those available was when I was in the stores in 2015/2016.

What’s the name of your plan on your bill. Im genuinely intrigued.

Edit. Ahhh it’s the up front plans. On console. Whole different system.
No this jb plan won’t be compatible

          • @ONEMariachi: Thanks for the additional info, I've learned a lot :D

You are correct, its 2 upfront plans. 1st one was taken out on Black Friday 2022 and 2nd was taken out late Jan 2023.

            • +1

@NonCents: Yeah apologies. My experience with console/upfront plans is super limited. I work in enterprise now

  • +1

No snark intended - What do people do with so much data? I feel like i use a lot but never exceed more than 80GB even streaming Plex outside the house etc.

Would be keen to know what the use cases are.. a home network maybe? Idk haha

    • +5

People who dont have home nbn,
Personally dont use even 80gb a year as have home and work internet.

    • +1

ppl with long commutes to work on public transport, or no nbn available in their area, also popular for the tradies who wanna watch netflix on the job lol. those are the most i hear

    • If you have maybe 3-4 podcasts downloading while you are out and about that aren't available before you leave home, these could add up to a few gig per month. You might then stream music or foxtel on the commute to work etc. I had the first of one of these big data plans a while ago and only once or twice got it up to a reasonable amount when I traveled interstate. Its possibly overkill but with 5G now, there is the possibility to use a fair bit. The main appeal for me was that I was covered, regardless of what I chose to do or what advances came in streaming etc. I've since downgraded to a standard annual Boost deal and that suits me fine, particularly with predominantly working from home these days.

    • +6

      PrawnHub 💦💦💦😎

      • Damn now i might have to go out and buy one 🤔

    • +1

      Home NBN replacement.

    • I currently have 430GB data shared across 2 services with Telstra. These are both used for wireless access points - one remains at home, as my living situation does not permit me to arrange a broadband connection, and the other travels with me wherever I go.

Currently my usage sits at 323GB/430GB with 15 days remaining (so >75% used over 50% of the cycle). I am a techie by trade however and regularly download large files, so I imagine my usage exceeds that of the average user.

      • +1

        Woah, sick insight 😯 Cheers👌

  • Can I still get this if I churn away then port back in?

    • +1

Get it (new number) on same account.

Then request to cancel the current service you have and do an FNN Change (puts your old number into the new contracted plan).

      • Does this require an outage?

        • Was around 2 hours for me.

          • @Kentrolla: was it done exactly when you requested it? or did you have to submit an application? how did you have to request an FNN? through chat? or do u have to submit paperwork?

            • @hippyhippy: I called 132200 and requested to cancel my old plan (out of contract). Change FNN on newly registered (goodguys) plan.

  • was it 1200 last year?

    • -3

Nah that was $69 plan for 24 months for like 300gb per month.

Think this was over 1400 last year

      • Nope, @Frozensage is right. JB ran two promos on the $99 plan discounted to $89 with $1200 JB gift card towards the end of last year: Black Friday and Boxing Day

JB never offer $69 plan for 300GB. It’s always on their $99 plan. Sometimes they discount it to $89 and you can discount it further via port in credit on Telstra live chat if you’re lucky

        • Nope they did one that was $30 off and went down to $69, i know because i was hitting myself for missing it, it was posted on ozbargain

  • Does it support e-sim? if yes, can I use it in 4G modem and my phone at the same time?

    • If you transfer to e-sim, your physical card will get disabled…

      • Are you sure? I can use both the physical sim and the esim at the same time. Maybe it’s not supported on all networks. (With the same number)

  • +3

    Is this correct?

I could jump on this, get $1100 gift card, preorder an S23 Ultra and get a $250 gift card partially paying with the $1100, but sort of getting the phone for $1350 off?

    Meaning 1TB for $2249 - $1350 = $899 or 512GB for $1949 - $1350 = $599

Except in reality I cannot apply the $250 one to the phone purchase, because I don't get that until afterwards…

    • +3

Yup + there is $300 promo if you trade-in your old phone on top of the phone's value. And if you get onto live chat and ask nicely/price match costco, they may even throw in a couple of accessories for same price as the phone.

    • +2

Add the cost of the plan for two years if you wouldn't normally pay that much?

  • +1

Currently on More telecom 50/20 NBN CommBank deal expiring next month. Have a 4G router already. Usually use 200-250GB per month. If planning to already buy a new phone/some other bits, this would seem a sensible thing to switch to. Any barriers I haven't foreseen?

  • My 70$ 400gb data plan just went up yo 85$. Might be good to to cancel it and get this. Im using 250gb pm on avg as home internet.

Hmm… Month to month or 1200$ gift card with 24 months lock in… Hmmm

    • It's only $1100 gift card, not $1200, but still, that works out to be $45.83 for each month if locked in for 24 months. If you're happy on the Telstra Network, ask yourself what are the odds you would likely remain on it for the next 24 months anyway?

I guess it's a question of whether you are likely to find a deal within the next 24 months for 300GB @ $43/Month, that you would in turn keep for 24 months, which would save more overall than the benefit of the gift card.

  • That’s for enterprise executives whose bills are paid by corporates

  • Can anyone tells me that if it is possible to get an extra $10 or $20 discount if chat with Telstra and if it should be happening after I purchase this plan for before?

    • +1

When I signed up for the $1200 $89/mth JB plan (Boxing Day deal), I got it confirmed by a Telstra chat rep that I would be eligible for the extra $10/mth off for 12mths (they didn't budge on $20/mth or for the full 24mths) and had a note added. Then I went in store and signed up for the plan. Then contacted them the next day via chat, and 5 chat reps later and even though it was on the notes for it to be applied, everyone said no and had lots of long 'arguments' and still didn't get it applied. Then attempted to escalate my request to complaints but was refused to be escalated on 3 occasions by the chat rep, so I pulled a Karen and lodged a TIO complaint. As soon as the TIO complaint was forwarded to Telstra, got a call the next day, 5mins later and because the note was there, they agreed to apply the $10/mth off for 24mths.

      • Oh thanks for sharing your info with me. So basically it is a hard things to do and if lucky can get it work, otherwise it will come with a bit of headache. 😄

        • +1

Even after making sure I said the right things before signing up for the plan to get the promise of $10/mth, it was so freaking difficult to get the previously promised credit applied. There's tons of comments on the previous $1200 boxing day deal of people having success or people getting declined.

          • @bozzonac: Thanks for the link. I will check it out now. 😊

      • So they wasted hours of your ( and their ) time basically.
I found dealing with Telstra ‘help’ a total nightmare too.

  • It says telstra but telstra ppl have no access to make any changes to the plan, previously they used to downgrade the plan but everythings is restricted.

  • Anyone know if you can number share with an Apple or Samsung watch with these plans?

  • Yes you can for extra 5$ monthly

  • +1

Anyone know if I can pop the sim for this plan into my own 4g/5g modem and use it as home internet?

  • Can I do this from boost mobile?

  • Anyone have any luck getting the additional port-in credit through telstra?

    • **edit - asked a second rep and they applied and additional $10 off a month for 24 months

      • congrats !!!
