In store only. Ends tomorrow. Deal is not showing on their JB mobile plan page, and currently only shows the $1200 GC deal posted by another user which is also an alternative.

  • Is it $1400 or 'up to $1400'?

    • Email from JB states "$1400 off any Android phone". I'll update to clarify.

Did some quick maths, if you're paying for more than $40pm on your mobile plan then this is worth it as it saves you a few bucks.

    Using this deal
    24 (mths) * $99 (per mth) + $1400 (Cost of Phone) - $1400 (Bonus) = $2376

    Not using this deal
    24 (mths) * $40 (per mth) + $1400 (Cost of Phone) - $0 (Bonus) = $2360

Edit: I kept the period the same but by not using the deal, you can change to cheaper plans if and when they come up.

    • Even better if can claim a % of tax back too

    • Also telstra point are worth $$.. not heaps but it adds up?

    • Except You don't need a $1400+ phone.
if your wanting a cheap plan with Telstra, Get a $49/month Sim only plan, bring your own phone and use the Telstra app chat feature to ask for a $10/month port in credit 'as you were advised in store'.

      • Correct, but the difference here is paying for a phone in a lump some out of your savings vs over time with a plan.

The end result will be the same, its just how you get there.

    • How about data volume? I suppose this 24 month plan has a bigger allowance than 40 per month?

      • I suppose if you can utilise a lot of data then this would make sense, for me, I barely use 5GB per month and I have a quota of 40 with my vodafone plan. Maybe if you're looking to hotspot the data out to your devices at home and forgo home internet then it would make more sense.

Ever since i learnt about the 365 day prepaid sim cards (late to the party on that one) i just can't fathom 24 month contracts at $99/month anymore..

    • +1

Exactly. I dont ever want to pay more 10-15 per month for phone plan

        • 10% off a Woolworths shop once a month. For us, it pays for itself.
        • You also don't need credit on the acc for it to work. Number just needs to be kept active. So you could recharge as low as once every 6 months.

  • When it was 29 plan with free phone period, no one even mentioning it was bargain.

    • +2

Because there was no OzBargain in 1997?

  • vodafone no lock in sim
    vodafone 120GB $45pm x 24 = $1080
    vodafone 240GB $50pm x 24 = $1200
    vodafone 500GB $55pm x 24 = $1320
    vodafone Unlimited $60pm x 24 = $1440

    JB telstra 24mths locked in: 300gb $99 x 24 - $2376 - $1400 towards phone = $976

    • Decent, $40 per month for 300gb. Wondering how useful it would be as a home hotspot

      • I got one of this and put sim into 4G router to use as home wifi solution. Pretty decent speed (stream movies from Netflix or Prime video) but I don't play games online, so don't know that.

    • +2

Yeah but then you have the joys of the Vodafone network.

      • +1

Which, so long as you're in a coverage area, are mostly huge bandwidth advantages since they swallowed 3 mobile back in the day.

Not to mention their deal to tower share with Telstra looks to be a go-er.

i'm still not convinced - i changed from vodafone to aldi (telstra mvno) and its miles better.

plus - I don't get a sales division calling me for upgrades i dont want
i dont get billing errors that were regular on vf.
i get an app that works if i'm on their network or on wifi.

          • @01011010: Oh I dont try to convince people to do things, im glad youve found something that works for you.

I just enjoy the technical side of wireless technology, and am always amazed by how much extra that small boost in spectrum lets vodafone achieve (assuming you're close enough).

        • The worst part is when you try to speak to someone that is with Vodafone and it keeps cutting out.

      • From personal experience, out of the 3, optus is the onpy one ive ever had connection issues with. Vodafone works great in Sydney for me. At least for the places i frequent

    $100 a month. Pass.

  • Is this 5g?

  • Which company offers good value for mobile internet? I live around the inner suburbs around the city of melbourne. Im currently with boost mobile which operates under the telstra network but the coverage in some areas is just 3G or no connectivity at all. Would optus, vodafone or any other be a better option?

To compare your Boost Mobile (Telstra MVNO) reception, you may want to use the Speedtest app on your mobile iOS Android > Map to provide you a general idea of the Tesltra/ Optus/ Vodafone coverage in your area.

However, a more relevant way for you test in your own environment would be to purchase a couple of prepaid sim cards on the Optus and Vodafone networks to do speedtests and/or call tests.

For Optus and Vodafone, there are a few deals that pop up on OzB that might help get some cheap sims to test:

      Things to note for this:

      • You do not need to port your number over. Keep your existing number with Boost Mobile (Telstra MVNO). For these additional sim cards from Optus and Vodafone, just set them up like new numbers.
      • It would be ideal to use the same device to do the testing. This is because different phones/devices may have different reception quality and the comparison may be less accurate. So, you may need to carry a sim ejector tool with you if you plan to test it around your area (e.g. home, work, cafe/park/shops that you normally go to).
      • When doing the speed testing, try to consistently select a more favourable server to give that network/sim its best fighting chance, e.g. if it is the Boost Mobile (Telstra MVNO) choose the Telstra - Melbourne server, if it is Kogan Mobile (Vodafone MVNO) choose Vodafone - Melbourne server, if it is Amaysim (Optus MVNO) choose Optus - Melbourne server.

Afterwards, you can list the pro's and con's of these telcos plans and prioritise accordingly:

      • price per month - some telcos deals are annual/monthly/30-days/28-days, so it would be ideal for you to normalise to help compare, e.g. 28-day renewals would effectively be recharging 13 times a year, so a $30 / 28-day prepaid is more like $32.60/mth
      • coverage
      • average speed
      • data allowances
      • international calling
      • Wi-Fi calling - this is handy because even if there is no reception, but you're connected to Wi-Fi, some telcos (e.g. Boost Mobile) allows you to use the Wi-Fi to make/receive calls (this is assuming your device has the function and supports it)

    Positives…
Number share with e.g. samsung watch
    5G and full fat telstra
    Crazy data allowance
    Esim
    Low upfront

    Negatives…
    Non shareable data
    No international inclusion
    High monthly

Overall a good deal when looking at tco for a premium phone

    • No number share with Tesltra from JB. Apperantly they are 'missing a few item/service codes' from what is available with Telstra services and this includes number share to connect a watch with esim. Was on chat for over 3 hours straight trying to activate for my samsung watch 4 and then went in to JB with no luck and finally went in to a Telstra shop and they told me about not available from JB plans.
If anyone has found out a way, please let me know. Hope this helps.

    Wheres the 12 month $69 deals ?

  • Tempted to get fold 4 now….

    • $3k

  • They offered $1400 off any iPad for $79 * 24 last year. It’s getting worse and worse and why ppl still pay for it?Maybe they bet ppl don’t have good math?
Do you know know what $99/m you can pay for? A decent 100/20 nbn internet and a 365 days decent prepaid sim. Unless you think alternating has less value than JB value

    • Speaking of "good math" you do realise it works out to be about $40 p/m for 300gb right?

Your Nbn and prepaid sim card argument is flawed as you didn't take account the $1400 credit for a new Android phone.

The deal is really for the $1400 off, not the $99 plan.
No one in their right mind would consider this if they weren't after a new phone in the first place.

      • $1400 will be only worth $1400 * 0.85 = $1190 in one week. As it is one day deal, considering you buy a iphone cost another $1000, you will spend another 5% more on this value (if you have 10% $1000 gift card on hands). This will be $50 loss. So add up together, the actual out-of-pocket money you will spend on this plan will be much more than $40/m, where it increase to $51/m (25% increase). Obviously ppl have their right to choose whatever they would like to pay for.

  • I keep hoping for a decent 12 month deal. What ever happened to the advertised in store only deals.
