I missed this deal last month, not quite as good as the $139 it was then though. Seems as though Amazon are price matching Bing Lee and possibly others.

How does it compare with this?
    Also wifi 6 and ax1800:

WiFi Router WAVLINK WiFi 6 Routers for Wireless Internet, AX1800 Dual Band 5G Router, Smart TouchLink Connect for Guess WiFi, 11ax Wi-Fi Routers with Mesh Parental Control, USB Port for Files Sharing https://amzn.asia/d/hFSjB68

    But only $60

    • The ASUS RT-AX56U uses a Broadcom BCM6755 SoC: http://en.techinfodepot.shoutwiki.com/wiki/ASUS_RT-AX56U

1.5GHz, 4-cores, 512MB RAM, supports 80MHz bandwidth and 1024-QAM. Dunno what SoC the WAVLINK uses, can't find it online. I doubt it's as solid as the BCM6755 in the ASUS, so the WAVLINK probably will be slower. That might be okay if you have shit internet anyways and don't need anything fancy, but as soon as you enable any advanced features it will start to chug.

Checked the ‎WL-WN531AX2 firmware image, looks like MT7621+MT7915D. So dual core 880mhz mips and most likely <=256mb memory.

Not great, but not terrible either.

The real issue is that I wouldn't trust WAVLINK firmware given their screw-ups in the past. I imagine people would port it over to OpenWrt, if there weren't a whole range of similarly spec'd models more friendly. I suspect WAVLINK may have just put 16mb NOR on there though, which isn't the most spacious, but plenty enough for OpenWrt currently.

Love this router, sold my old one for $40 as well. So $100 upgrade was even better.
Supports merlin + Diversion as well

    • does merlin support vlan tagging per ssid? cheers!

    • What are the new benefits?

  • I have an old Asus RT-AC88U Dual-band wireless-AC3100 gigabit router. Is it worthwhile to upgrade in terms of speed and distance penetration? Not a tech savvy person.

    • +4

I reckon besides the wi-fi 6, there's nothing the ax56u has that can be compared to the old ac88u

    • Both support Aimesh, so you can combine them together into a mesh system to get better coverage

  • I bought two of these at the $139 deal, to run as mesh APs with an ethernet backhaul (a UDM is doing all the heavy lifting though).
They were pretty easy to set up, the wifi range on them is stellar, and the mesh has been working fantastically.

  • How does this compare to a NetComm NL1901ACV? It is worth an upgrade?

ive been waiting for $139 to return so I can buy another one.
    good little router

  • I am waiting for 53U to come for $69 like last year.

Solid unit and do not be fooled by the 2 antennas as the range is pretty good. Just 2.4 if you are further.

  • +1

I've picked up 2 of these in the last month for $50ea on marketplace to add to my mesh system. Great routers.

    • I'm thinking of doing that.

  • -2

    Only 2 antennas.

    • +1

      Good eye.

      • -2

No need to be smart about it.

    • +1

One mesh is not as good, no ethernet backhaul.

  • Note that the Amazon base price for this unit has recently been lifted from $229 to $242, see https://au.camelcamelcamel.com/track/ad834439d97b5cb4f8a767a…
