Airport Lounge Sharing

Are there any places where you can share guest access if you're going to a lounge?

Reason being is if I can bring guests in, and would it be a waste, if I could've helped someone's wait at the airport be a bit nicer. I came across an old comment that have people doing that on the AFF website but it looks pretty quiet. I think there was an old Facebook group that used to exist was called 'Be My Guest' but I can't seem to find much info on it now. Is there something out there that exists?

I know I could probably ask someone during the check in gate but it would be nice to give it to people from the OzBargain community.

Great gesture - i've had similiar thoughts in the past but realised:

    1) anything too public (where guest pass sharing becomes big) will cause credit cards, airlines to make changes to their system / offering - generally its a silippery slope downhills for the benefit holders.

    2) could be a nuisance trying find eachother, timing, etc. Also you dont know the other person, any damages done at the lounge will be associated with you.

    3) generally one way traffic, i.e., moral hazard. There will be far more non-lounge looking for lounge holders. The unbalance will eventually unhinge the whole set up.

I think its just hard ultimately. Notwithstanding all that, kudos to you for thinking of others…. its a rare thing these days.

    • Very good points raised, I guess I didn't think about the wider effect of it possibly having.

      I'll just nudge a few people during check-in now I suppose :^)

        Hope it all goes well.

Mind you, I have kept an eye open for elderlies from time to time and occasionally have help the odd stranger who I had a good conversation (and gave me good vibes) with. Its funny, it can also work the other way - have been invited to first class when I was only business class lounge.

        keep it up.

        • Looks like good karma came around your way!

I learned from my last trip to try to ask before they sit at their gate. Otherwise it just looked really sketchy when I walked up to them asked to join me at a lounge. They don't need to be on the same flight right?

          • @Emphasise: I don't think so but needs to be flying same airline, unless its priority pass or Amex.

I have often toyed with the idea of hanging around the lounge entrance and asking randoms if I could be their +1. Never had the guts to do it though

    • Honestly if you were nice about it and didn't look dodgy I would be happy to take you in 😂

When Priority Pass that came with AMEX platinum had $32 off food at cafes(x2 if you bring a guest), I would always tell the cashier to add a guest and discount the bill of the person in the queue behind me.

Unfortunately, they don't do food anymore. and you're right, I've also thought about it and do feel weird to ask someone random if they would be my +1

      • They still have it in the Citi Prestige card which is what I used to use. It was great and you could hop around the various restaurants before you take off. It was like $32x3 at the international terminal.

    • maybe if you were stunningly attractive perhaps

      • I got that sorted ;)

        • I'll make an assumption here but you'll need to sort out being the opposite gender too.

    • First hurdle: how to tell someone is entitled to a +1 without seeing their membership card

At check-in, find someone who is in line and ask them if they want to be guested in. I have done this, it is a little bit trickier if at Sydney International as you need to clear immigration etc. I provide my number and I meet them either after immigration/security or near the lounge.

  • I've guested strangers into the lounge in the past, especially when I was QF Platinum and could access the coveted First Class lounge. But it was always very awkward and most times I chickened out as I didn't want to scare the people I was trying to assist.

I know that those times when I didn't have lounge access, I would have loved it of someone approached me out of the blue.

    • Sometimes I rescue groups when they are one short to guest everyone in. Thats about it.
