Breville Bambino Plus Espresso Machine Stopped Working

I have a 18 months old Bambino Plus that I have bene using happily. I cleaned and descaled and it started to play up. Immediately after cleaning I tried to use first time all briefly flash and then 1 Cup, 2 Cup and Steam buttons turned off and just the milk foam and temperature buttons stayed on. It looked like the condition when the water tank is empty. I checked the tank, it is OK, removed and re-inserted. reset the whole machine. unplugged and waited. and eventually worked.

Then worked for a while, today I made coffee, the same 3x lights turned off (tank empty indication), I added water, didn't change. I suspect the float, but it works rises with water and goes down when empty.

it seems like the machine doesn't see the tank or the water level. Any idea how can I fix it?

My second question is the warranty. I bought it from TGG commercial. their web page says the product has 2x years manufacturer warranty. if I cannot fix it where doI take it ? to TGGC or Breville?

Thanks
MrT

Go The Good Guys first as that's where you bought it from and still have available warranty.

    • I remember reading some where the Bambino only has 6 months warranty if used for Commercial purposes. In this case it's not…

Items from JB/TGG Commercial aren't for commercial use, that's just the name - it's a discount program via their employer.

I also have a 6 month old bambino plus, this also happened to me last month. First three buttons were not lit, none of the buttons if i pressed, would work

I then decided to troubleshoot, by doing a cleaning cycle with a large 2L bowl (there's youtube videos to google these steps). I also took out the spanner underneath the water jug, and used the spanner to open the milk stick, and soak it warm water in case it was clogged. It then worked and i made a coffee.

For some weird reason, for the next two days, the first three buttons again were not lit, i did a cleaning cycle for two days each time I used it then it was finally working back to normal, where it didn't require a cleaning cycle to start. It's been a month and the machine has been functioning normally. It was a bit strange though but i'm glad i didn't have to take it in for repairs.

    • Had you also descaled it just prior to the error occurring?

      • Yes. Initial error happened when I tried to run it first time after descaling. I had also cleaned the tank , remove the float compartment put it back etc. but after trying some things ie reset, it worked for couple of days . Yesterday, after making coffee the lights went off and stayed on

    • I tried doing the cleaning cycle, but I cannot get the machine to start the cycle. I press the 1CUP and 2 CUP buttons, both lights illuminate after 5 sec, I press one of the buttons, and nothing happens. it goes to the problem state

      • i bought my Brev bam plus last jan 2023, first time to run tablet descaling. and the problem starts. but after reading some post here, i did another descaling with out the tablet. I let it run until it by my itself until it goes to ready mode.

  • I use RO water in my Delonghi to avoid needing to descale as often. RO water should really avoid needing ever descaling, it should just be water molecules. Something something copper leeching, but who cares. I've seen enough House episodes to diagnose Wilson's disease.

    • The Bambino asks for descale after X amount of shots. It doesn't care if it needs one or not, it will just tell you to do it.

I hope you're not using RO Water for all your drinking/cooking.

      • In my drinking, yes. Cooking, no. Actually the standard kettle for cups of tea I just use tap water.

    I have a 18 months old Bambino

Have you enrolled them in Kinder yet?
There's often a long waiting list for the good ones.

Still early. I will wait until it can make coffee unassisted.

      • If you're Italian, that is around 6yo

  • Cool story

    • Soon to be made into a Netflix mini series.

    • lots of good info there. and I did check it. but no help to my problem

Not sure if you have the same lights but we had this issue happen and cleaning the wand cleared our lights.

Have you cleaned the head of the steam wand recently? Under the water tank is a little black cleaning tool. Unscrew the head of the steam wand and poke through each hole to clean out the gunk. Screw it back on then hold the steam button until it purges.

    • I am a long black person, and hardly drink any coffee with milk. having said that I make occasionally for guests…I'd be surprised if it is the steam wand but I will give it a go

      • I am a short white person and do occasionally drink coffee with oat milk.

  • Cool story but why not contacting either TGG or Breville and share with them as well?

If it is not hardware fault and I can resolve it here, I am drinking coffee again tomorrow. but If it take it to them I am sober for easily 2 weeks

Contact the Breville help line. What you don’t want to do is get too close to the “out of warranty” period.

Would be interested in the outcome when you get it resolved.

I took it to Breville service centre. Its for them to figure out what it is

    thanks for the replies

  • Got nothing so far :(

  • I got my bambino plus back today. It turns out I had a faulty milk jug temperature sensor. It came as a surprise to me since I hardly make anything other than long black. It seems you don’t have to use it for it to break.

Anyways, made my first coffee. So far so good

  • and. less than a week, it is back to same state… :(. calling Breville again

    • See if you can get a replacement machine.

      • this time it was the water tank water level sensor…fixed by firmly tightening the screw…. I kinda lost faith, and waiting for the next problem, I hope these machines are not made to last 18 months :(
