Experiencing Floaters in My Eyes

Last 6 months, I have been developing floaters in both of my eyes. The right eye is worse as it has black circle spot and a line of transparent circles with little dot in the center.

Has anyone ever experience something like this before and what is your solution?

I read there is a laser treatment available for this disease, can anyone share their experience if you have taken it? Does it really help and how much it cost?

TIA

Floaters are somewhat normal but what you're describing sounds different. Recommend you see an optometrist ASAP and check if it's an issue or not.

See an optometrist who may refer you to an opthamologist.

Do not accidentally go to an ornithologist though…

They might think you are a goose

  • I've had these for years. I just ignore them. More obvious when looking at a mono-colour scene, eg, blue sky, white wall. They come and go. Looking at a blank wall now and don't notice any.

Go to the eye and ear hospital

  • This could be macula degeneration. Very common, and gets worse with age. I think most, if not all people eventually get macula degeneration. Many people don't even notice it until they have an eye examination that points it out. For some people it's very noticeable. Others, it makes them go blind. Some macula injuries are caused by looking at the sun, so make sure you never, ever look at the sun. I have a macula hole, and some macula degeneration. Macula holes don't really look black, in my experience, they look kind of just blank or grey. If there is a macula hole in one eye, your vision around that hole will be slightly distorted.

      Macular.

      Time to go to Specsavers…

      • yes, sorry. Macular degeneration, i.e. degeneration of the macula.

    • The immaculate answer

      • Sounds like the eyes are maculated.

I experienced floaters. I was concerned that it might be linked to my type 2 diabetes. I went to the optometrist at the SpecSavers I get my glasses at. He bulk billed it. He had the equipment to take images of the stuff floating around in my eye, and said this was common. That his floaters were actually worse than mine.

At the same time I started experiencing flashes at the edges of my vision that I could only see when it was dark. I was told this was more of a concern because it indicated issues with the retina. But the images he took didn't show any sign of damage to the retina, so he said to have it investigated further if it got worse.

Although they both appeared suddenly together they haven't gotten worse. Its just a bit annoying when I look at a computer screen with a largely white background.

  • If it's a void of light, you could possibly have a hole in your retina. Go to optometrist asap

  • Do NOT go to specsavers. Get a referral for an ophthalmologist. I have this too, it is common, but if it bothers you, get it checked out.

Get it check asap. My friend has floaters and black spots with occassional flashes. Turns out it's retina detachment and did emergency surgery in the same week.

Oh my goodness… why use ozb for validation/diagnosis on what might be a medical issue for you.

    …. Seriously…..

    Go to a medical professional.

  • Yes, got a floater. It's not a disease, it's old age.

    Ain't no cure for that!

Solution - nothing. Was told it happens as as parts dislodge in the retina?

this guy is pre good w/ health stuff

  • Optometrist here: Go see an optometrist, we can advise you if it is abnormal or not and refer you on if necessary
GPs, as good as they are, are not the best equipped to deal with eye issues. They would/should recommend you see an optometrist in this situation anyway

  • I have a grey spot that appears when I look down then look up. The dot then gradually falls back down until i do it again.
Apparently it is a hole in the clear coat of my eye and there's not really anything I can do about it.

Edit to add: I only notice it when I think about it or look at a white wall

"I have a problem with the thing that is responsible for one of my five bodily sense and possibly the most important one, I could go to the necessary specialist and get it looked at or I could ask a bunch of people on an internet forum"

Twitter ask Elon, buy an EV, then stare at the sun. Solved.

  • I used to get these when I was in my late 20s. Saw a GP, referred me to an eye doctor. Saw Eye doctor, he did some checks, then said "Drink less alcohol. Drink more water. Wear Polarized sunglasses whenever you can while outside.

I took the last 2 pieces of advice, and then they gradually went away, and I actually forgot about them until seeing your post. Haven't had them for years. Still drink lots of water and wear glasses constantly.

    • and then they gradually went away

How long did it take for you? Went to Optometrist today and was advised same stuff, but can always go to Ophthalmologist for further checking.

Ophthalmologist, that's who I saw, not an Optometrist. He said the same thing, didn't do any tests.

I honestly don't remember how long they took to go away, as you kind of just get used to automatically dismissing them after having them for a while. If I had to guess, I'd say they came and went a bit for 12-18 months, and now it's probably been 5 years since I've had one.
