Zelda-like game Anodyne is being temporarily given away as a freebie game for the first time on itch.io, as part of its 10th Anniversary celebration - I was a bit late in noticing this, and no one else seems to have posted this on OzBargain.

Anodyne features Simplified Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Brazilian-Portugese and Spanish language options.

  • The Mac version has flickering on fullscreen on some version of Mac OSX. Please play in windowed mode.
  • Linux: Anodyne does not have an official Linux version, buy at your own risk - This is unsupported, a very old (but complete) version from 2013 or so. I cannot help you with any bugs for this version. You can try to get the executable working, or you can play the standalone SWF.

  • Here's a related bonus for those of you who had obtained Anodyne as a temporary freebie game (or had already purchased it previously):

    Anodyne Sharp is a fan-made rewrite of the original Anodyne game, based off the original game's source code - downloads available for modern Linux, Windows Installer, and Windows portable.

    Windows
    The game should just run out of the box. If not, you will need to install the .Net 6 runtime.

    Linux
    1. Give AnodyneSharp execution permissions cd /path/to/AnodyneSharp chmod +x AnodyneSharp
    2. Run game in terminal ./AnodyneSharp

    Portable
    1. Make sure you have the .Net 6 runtime installed.
    2. Open the terminal and run dotnet AnodyneSharp.dll


    Overview of changes
    • Render at 60 FPS(VSync and unlocked are also available) using OpenGL, effects are done using shaders instead of CPU-side computation
    • Controller support: Switch Pro controller support needs Steam to be active to work correctly
    • Indicator of currently selected broom in top left of the screen: Swapping between brooms doesn't require using the menu - PgUp/Dwn and controller shoulder buttons switch between them, 1-4 sets the current broom directly
    • Unopened chest indicator on minimaps on screens you've visited. No more searching for that one chest in the entire dungeon you missed
    • Minimap shows floor numbers for multi-floor dungeons
    • Return to entrance now returns you to the screen where you entered the dungeon (most notable in REDCAVE with its multiple entrances)
    • Several bugfixes for softlocks and non-essential glitches (wiggle glitch is still in, have fun!)
