Not a bad price for this 5 bay diskless NAS. It features an Intel Celeron J3355 dual-core CPU, two 1GbE LAN ports, 2GB RAM (upgradable to 10GB), HDMI and 2 USB 3.0 ports on the rear.

An good choice for file storage, backups, media playback (e.g. Plex), Docker and more. Please refer to this document to see what it can transcode in Plex. The TOS 5.0 operating system is quite the improvement over the older TOS 4.0 found in reviews and includes new apps including Surveillance Manager for cameras and CloudSync for syncing OneDrive, Dropbox, Google Drive etc. to the NAS.

Alternatively you can 'unofficially' install Operating Systems like TrueNAS or Synology DSM to experience all the apps and features that they provide.

I buy a NAS a few yrs ago, think … "yeah, forget setting up a linux box as a NAS, this must be better" it wasn't … when the drives started to fail and the NAS' proprietary software couldn't fix things so I could rescue the data, AND the drives couldn't be read outside the NAS as they use their own proprietary Table of Contents to reference the data … and the vendor won't help when contacted! Leaving me with no options as to how to retrieve the data, so if ya gunna set one of these up and think it's all you'll need for keeping important data safe … IT AINT, you'll need other backup options on top of this!

      • Wasn't raid, 2 disks combined to appear as 1 storage lot, was the only option on this POS

        • +2

Supported RAID Types Single, JBOD, RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID5, RAID 6, RAID 10

          • @jjcf: This isn't really relevant, because if the data is important then you still need a backup 😁
It doesn't matter what you're doing with your storage pool…

    • Well yeah… why didn't you have a backup? If this was the only copy of the data then it wasn't a backup.

      Yep, you always need backups.

It doesn't really matter if your NAS uses proprietary filesystems etc, because you should have a backup when things go wrong…

    • Raid is not a backup. Why waste your time with this statement?
