RRP is six times the price of the Quest 2? YIKES. Has anyone got one and is it worth the upgrade?

    • +3

Not super worth it, especially if you got the Quest 2 when it was cheap.

Soon you can buy the Pro controllers separately, so I suspect this is the reason for the discount.

      • +3

You can already buy controllers separately from oculus store, but not yet the headset without controllers. I got just the controllers for my Q2 and although they aren't worth the cost, they are pretty much flawless for Quest 2 an amazing upgrade for me though

      • +3

The discount is to price match the Vive XR Elite coming out.

Forgot entirely about that, definitely a factor as well!

I purely want one just for VR Development. For just personal use i'd say its not worth it.

    • I recently got one. I have no experience in VR, but it's a pretty amazing device. I was lowkey shocked how well it all runs on Australian internet haha

It's very comfortable and looks pretty sleek. I don't think I would pay 2.5k. Maybe this price is getting closer to its worth, but hard to recommend unless it's closer to 800 imho.

There's also a Quest 3 headset that is apparently on the way.

      • I was lowkey shocked how well it all runs on Australian internet

The games run locally on the headset, they aren't streamed over the internet.

        • I meant experiences like VRChat which are multiplayer VR experiences.

      i think 1800 = 3 x 600 not 6

      • I bought the Quest 2 at $~400 and I'm seeing the RRP in Australia is $2,400. But yeah maybe I got the Quest 2 at an amazing price.

        • The 64GB one I'm guessing?

          • @oranglama: there was a deal for the 128gb for 429 during the xmas 2021 period, that's about a 5.6x price difference

    • problem is vrPorn is only 3DoF, not 6 the immersion just not worth is hassle.

It's fine, he's not pulling a Broden, these are just high-yield investment headsets.

  • This for mine was a massive blunder not sure what the heck Zuck was thinking. I just don't see a viable market for this at this point in time it's neither here nor there. Should have instead worked on releasing the Quest 3 asap and kept that line-up going for a few years and then maybe down the track it would have made some sense to test the waters but I think it's way too early for this sort of niche product at this sort of price range.

    • +1

yeah, this is just not a product for average consumer at all. hope they can execute q3 as good as the q2 did, i feel like the pico4 wasnt too big of an upgrade too, and both start feel dated tbh.

      • " this is just not a product for average consumer at all."

Yeah Quest Pro is priced like this because Meta is aiming to sell it to huge companies. If you are an average consumer you are honestly over paying for the product.

        • I just don't see how it would appeal to companies and businesses either especially given the state of the markets. Also the software and applications are still a long way away from being usable.

Or get like 3x Pico 4 headsets from Amazon AU (shipped from Germany)

It even has better specs in most aspects.
