Since the GM-B2100D-1AER Steel Casioak deal was so popular I thought this was worth posting.
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/751299

The GST-B500D-1AER in this deal loses the Casioak design but is arguably easier to read (thanks to lighter hands and hour markers) and still has Tough Solar and Bluetooth connectivity (with the same App).
Edit: Also would like to add if the Casio Watches App time sync works anything like the G-shock Move App for my current watch, it will work best with App location permissions on the phone set to "always". So the watch can fetch the geo location time data at any time during it's regular cycle.

This GST-B500D is half the price of the GM-B2100 Casioak so has Carbon Core (resin) case with Steel bezel and Steel band. GM-B2100 Casioak with it's higher price adds a Steel case with a screw lock back.
The GST also has the same digital LCD and LED location as the Casioak, so no trouble with visibility of LCD in the dark. Although the GST only has lume on the hands, while the GM-B2100 adds lume on the hour markers.
Most of the specs are identical with the GST being 22g lighter on the wrist and a little more square in dimensions, meaning lug to lug should be less and it should fit better on smaller wrists.
GST-B500D dimensions are 46.6 × 48.9 × 12.8 mm (L× W× H).

So the choice is yours, pay half the amount for Carbon Core or save up $600 for GM-B2100 Casioak.

I have already checked before posting and all the other colour versions of this model on FCW AU are more expensive.

    • BTW guys, this for $449 that shows up in google search is not the same model. https://watchdirect.com.au/products/g-shock-g-steel-mens-wat…

It has Solar but no Bluetooth, the LCD layout will be harder to read in the dark and is a much larger watch measuring 59.1 × 52.4 × 16.1 mm so it will likely have large lug to lug distance and suitable for thick wrists only. It also weights more at 195g, compared to 143g of the watch in the deal.

      • +1

What is the advantage of Bluetooth?

        • +4

They are listed in the specs under Smartphone App connectivity features.
          - Auto time adjustment (synchronization)
          - Easy watch setting
          - Approximately 300 world time cities
          - Time & place
          - Reminder
          - Phone finder

If you would like a detailed demo on how they work, you can probably find a youtube video showing you. I would recommend searching for the GM-B2100 model Bluetooth video. The BT functions are the same as the watch in this deal, but the GM-B2100 is the more popular Casioak model.

          • @harshbdmmaster718:

If you would like a detailed demo on how they work, you can probably find a youtube video showing you.

Thanks, I don't change my settings enough for those to be a big selling point.

            • @OzBragain: I have another G-shock that connects to the G-shock Move App (Casio has 3 different Apps don't know why).
So the only thing it shares in common with Casio Watches App is the Auto time adjustment, some other features on G-shock Move are phone notification previews and syncing step counter data.

So I can't really explain the specifics of the other features since I don't have a watch that works with the Casio Watches App.

If you are wondering yes auto time adjustment is more of a luxury. Before my current watch I never had this feature, and I would set (sync) the time on my watch manually maybe every 8 to 12 months. Not much of an issue.

              • @harshbdmmaster718: I currently wear a Mudmaster that I adjust at the beginning and end of daylight saving. Can't see a benifit to me in having a watch Bluetooth to my phone…to perform functions my phone already does well.

        • Main advantage is being able to resynch the time (using your phone) with a single press. It's a pretty useful feature.

The find my phone one is also good but a little temperamental.

          • @Ezuku: "The find my phone one is also good but a little temperamental."

I also have this feature on my G-shock Move series watch. In the user manual it says that the Find My phone feature will only work if the App is open in the background. So what happens when you open 10 more Apps, and the Casio Watches App is pushed out of memory? I don't know but playing with settings might help.

With my watch the Auto time adjustment works with G-shock Move App closed and not running in background, you just have to set G-shock Move App location access in phone settings to "always".

            • @harshbdmmaster718: Honestly I found it worked fine as long as you didn't turn the notifications off (it uses the notification to stay open). It annoyed me though having it open. It was temperamental if you restarted the phone and expected the app to also restart.

              • @Ezuku: Yeah I had a similar experience when settings the watch up. Just minor things though I was able to recognize it like you and get things to work quickly.

Basically I didn't have the G-shock App location settings to "always" allow, so the auto time sync wouldn't connect to the phone bluetooth. I didn't know about this setting so I tried to re pair the watch to phone bluetooth.
I had also turned notifications "off" from the phone because I thought I wouldn't use it (I use it now though), but while that was "off" the phone could not find the watch during bluetooth re pairing. So I turned the bluetooth notification setting "on" again, and then was able to successfully find and re pair the watch.
Then after this I set G-shock App location to always, the watch always connects automatically and everything works since then.

  • Good website, I like that I can search for certain features eg day display. Thanks OP.

    • No problem. Keep in mind prices are always fluctuating regularly like on Amazon.
And make sure you research other stores prices and compare.

In my experience, as long as a FCW AU listing does not have the red "Sale" text on the main picture, you can apply a code to get additional discount.
10% off GET10 is often shown on some watches, but you can usually get a bit more % off with a different code.

Also keep an eye out for "Pre order" stock. Sometimes the text is a bit small so easy to miss, which means you might wait 6+ weeks for the watch to ship.

In search results it should have green "In stock" text under the image if it's in stock.
Otherwise look for the "IN STOCK" text right under Add to basket.

  • Thanks OP for all the high effort posts! Really been tempting me to part from my money though…

    • No problem. This particular watch is out of my budget and more than I would spend on a watch myself.

But Steel materials + Tough Solar + Bluetooth usually adds a premium.

      • May I ask how much you would spend on a watch?

        • I started off with a $9 Casio F-91W. Then slowly progressed to feeling more confident with something more expensive on my wrist.
I am currently on my 3rd watch, which is a G-shock. I paid around $170 so that's currently the limit for me.

    GST-B500D-1AER

    Gerry loves that model number.

    • +1

That would make it as difficult to read under light as the GM-B2100D-1AER I mentioned and linked to in the post.
It is one of the main issues with the all metal Casioak and the reason I posted this particular cheaper alternative model with lighter coloured hands and markers.

Lume wise however GM-B2100 wins and has lume on the hour markers, but lume doesn't last forever so you will probably end up using the light anyway.

  • Good price captain approvez

I’m loving g shock watches right now. Wish I had money to buy one of the MT-G models

    • Honestly looking at the MT-G line up here https://gshock.casio.com/intl/products/mt-g/

9/10 of those looks really odd to me. Even the simpler ones just don't hit the spot. But that's just my opinion.

This is probably as far up the tree I would go, https://www.casio.com/intl/watches/gshock/product.GST-B400AD…
I think it looks stylish with steel, the deep red dial and it's not too big. Although I do wish the propeller at 9 o clock and LCD at 6 a clock weren't there and it showed off the deep red dial more maybe even with engraved pattern on the whole dial. Sometimes less is more and G-shock tends to over do things.

I feel the same way about the MR-G line up. A bit more tame but still not hitting the spot. Well I guess a win for me I will never buy them lol.

  • Such a ripper deal, but i'm holding out for the b2100d; personal preference although spec wise, they're so identical.
    thanks OP

    • You probably already saw it, but someone commented they managed to snag the GM-B2100D-1AER for $624 with code WS20.
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/751299
Most likely during a price drop with no red sale text.

I think a better price could be had after code applied (maybe around $580 ish), but to be honest I haven't really been looking at it's price fluctuation because it's out of my price zone.

For example with the resin strap version the GM-2100-1AER https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/753425
I was looking at it last year and saw it drop to $217, but the red sale text remained the entire time at that price (no code would apply). So that tells me that's as low as they will go for Aussie customers.
If you read the last few comments of that deal, someone noticed they removed the red sale text. So 2 people bought it at $220 after applying CASIO15. Which is close enough in price as $217 which was as low as they would go.

      • Nice one.
yea i've been monitoring the B2100d, i think the lowest I've seen it go was 499 on starbuy during the black fri sales.
I hessitated and it sold out :(

Have succumbed to an analog G2110 with a gen 5 royal oak mod. I have a friend coming back from Singapore who got it for 100aud on shopee and gen 5 mod kit was 100aud frm ae.

  • Thanks for the post and the effort you have put. I just try to hold and don't buy. That's a really nice watch. 👍👍

  • Nice watch, good deal 👍

  • Thanks for the g-shock deals.

I have the second edition of the g-steel (gst-b200) and absolutely love it. Analogue / digital is just the perfect blend of functional and aesthetic in my opinion, plus solar is awesome. Unfortunately after the gst-b300 they dropped the second hand for no real reason.

    • Damn the seconds hand looks really really nice. I especially like the half red/black seconds hand on this version https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/2465/1381/products/GST-B30…
      Very subtle but good looking.
The older B200 looks very nice too, the case looks less chunky than the B300 and more like a traditional watch which will probably suit more situations.

I think the "big" spec update with the B400 was it slimmed down quite a lot. Down to 12.9mm from 14.5mm of the B300 and B200.
B500 in this deal brings that down to 12.8mm, yeah not much lol but still something.

So I guess those who want a thinner watch will like the newer models. My favourite in terms of looks is definitely that B300 with the red seconds hand though.

  • Question for the watch experts:

Any non-smart "smart" watches like these with phone connectivity with notifications - even just a simple LED indicator or vibrate function when receiving notifications?

    • +1

"Any non-smart "smart" watches like these with phone connectivity with notifications - even just a simple LED indicator or vibrate function when receiving notifications?"

Not a watch expert, but that's exactly what my current G-shock Move model does. It's the GBD200, the slimmest of the series (which in G-shock talk means close to normal size).

You can set it to just vibrate on notification if you want, I just have it beep but you can set it to do both as well.
When you get a notification a little speech bubble icon also appears above the time.

Keep in mind it is pretty limited in terms of initial notification preview, with texts it will only show the icon and contact name. With calendar alerts and reminders I will get the text info but I think it will only be 1 line long (it's fine I don't type many words on reminders anyway). You can view all your notifications on the watch in detail, but it requires too many button presses so it's quicker to pull out your phone.

Also there is no "filter" on the watch end, it will get all notifications you allow on your phone. Not really a problem for me since I have all notifications from Apps off on my phone.
I only allow Calls, Texts, Calendar and Reminder notifications on the phone. I might throw one more in such as Amazon App for delivery notifications, but I only install Amazon when I track packages from overseas.

Edit: Also obviously depending on the watch link use the battery life can be affected greatly. The watch is rated at 2 years battery life (which is short for a G-shock) on CR2032 with estimate uses listed. A lot of things listed, but notifications mentioned as 20 per day. If you don't use other features such as alarm, light etc. You might get away with 30 per day and last 2 years.
If you get like 50 to 100 per day, your battery might run out in less than a year. You might be opening the watch to do battery changes every year.

I just looked it up. Battery life does better than I thought it would. 50 notifications a day with vibration = 1.5 years.

      Power Supply :
      CR2032 x 1

      • Fantastic - thanks so much for the detailed reply
That's exactly what I was looking for - I'll take a look at your model….
A simple vibration or icon is great, don't need a preview or description at all
        Appreciate it

        • +1

          No problem at all.
Again my model is the GBD200.

But there is a very similar model which is only 1mm larger in dimensions called the GBX100. It also adds a metal guard on the front, but therefore is a bit top heavier than my all resin model.
The functions are identical but the GBX100 adds Tide and Sunrise/Sunset info on the watch. And is also a little more expensive overall.

          • @harshbdmmaster718: Hmmm I will investigate…
I quite like the look of the Citizen bluetooth connected watches but can't find the men's ones anywhere in AU
The Casios don't seem to have notifications afaik

            • @lachhelix: "The Casios don't seem to have notifications afaik"

I assume you mean Casio watches like the one in this deal? (Steel type watch)

As far as I know the Casio models that support notifications is limited to certain models of the G-shock Move series that pair with the G-shock Move App. The best of those being the GBD200 and GBX100 that have a higher resolution MIP display to show more info.

Here is where it gets kind of confusing, not all the G-shock Move series watches pair with the "G-shock Move App". There are some models in the series that pair with the "G-shock Connect App" which is a different App that only connects to the watch when the App is in use and therefore does not support notifications.
Then there are watches like the one in this deal which pair with the "Casio Watches App" which I have no experience with and as far as I know works like "G-shock Connect App".
