Casio G-Shock Men's GM-B2100D-1AER Solar Silver Steel + Bluetooth $663 Delivered @ First Class Watches

520
WS15

Had my eye on this watch since the release, looks to be the cheapest price I have ever found for this item.

Australian RRP is $1199.
Masters in Time (UK) sells this model for $742.53.
David Jones previously sold this for $879.20 (sold out, but was the cheapest Aussie stock price I could find)

Based on the website this is UK stock however I do not believe there are any differentiations between the Australian model and this (happy to be corrected if I am wrong).

Other colours aren't as as cheap:
Bronze: https://au.firstclasswatches.com/casio-g-shock-bluetooth-ful…
Black: https://au.firstclasswatches.com/casio-mens-g-shock-bluetoot…

This website allows you to make an offer although I am unsure how much lower they could go, please give it a go and share.

Description from the gshock website:

Introducing the first full-metal addition to the continually evolving 2100 line of timepieces that inherit the legacy of the first-ever G-SHOCK, the DW-5000C.

Luxe full-metal construction with a screw-back case, bezel, and band crafted in stainless steel creates a streamlined, minimalist design, while protecting the module from impact when dropped. We take it way back with the octagonal bezel and dimpled band design of the original from 1983, all done in metal.

High-density mounting keeps the analog-digital combination module slim, while still providing the advanced functions you love in a compact profile and comfortable fit.

Pairs with a smartphone via Bluetooth®. Simply tap into the dedicated app for precision timekeeping that keeps you on track. With Tough Solar, a high-brightness LED light and a range of other convenient functions, this is a timepiece that delivers on style and practical utility.

A cheaper way to just get a similar look, is to grab a Casioak (GA-2100 model) in a colour/face design of your choice. Hopefully on sale for $150 or less, and then buy the metal mod kit from a reputable Aliexpress watch store for around $100 to $120.

There are 3 types of metal cases for the mod kits, one has the G-shock/Protection logo's like the original, one has 8 screws on the bezel, one has no screws. And a few variations on the types such as colour etc.

The mod does not require you to open the watch so should not be to tricky for anyone. I think the trickiest part is when screwing the metal case in you need to be careful not to strip the resin hole thread. As SKXMOD has mentioned in his video. He has said he has given this advice multiple times but to make sure you slowly screw counter clockwise first until you feel a gentle click, this means the screw has found the hole thread. Then after this to tighten the screw. The other possible tricky part is the spring bars when putting the band on the watch and adjusting the metal band size (removing links). A spring bar tool will make this easier, can't remember if one is included in the kit or not.

In the past I actually considered doing this mod with a GMA-S2100 (smaller face) and the $70 metal case/silicone band mod kit, but I am not into this style of heavy metal watches and I was only going to do it for the build and if I could find the watch for under $100 which I don't think is going to happen thanks to covid. I was planning to then sell it and get my money back or keep it as a gift for someone.
Anyway please do your own research if going down this route on forums like Watchuseek and reddit. It also helps to have some Aliexpress know how to choose a good store. I found one with good prices after a decent amount of searching but I forget the name because I abandoned the project.

The only thing I remember is choosing from 3rd 4th 5th gen mod kits. Each one has minor differences and improvements in quality, but sometimes you might prefer a 3rd gen for example due to particular features. I think the latest "feature" added on 5th gen was improved finishes and the ability for the first link of the metal band to "drop" at a steeper angle (but this also came with a slightly larger gap, which didn't match up with the following links and some people might not like that). Meaning it would hug your wrist better. The older gen's had the typical almost 45 degree angle for the first links attached to the watch.

Here is one of the kit's with the logos https://media.karousell.com/media/photos/products/2020/02/17…

And here is the more popular version with Royal Oak style band (this one has a fake crown, I would prefer the version without) https://i.redd.it/5kfggku0llv81.jpg

If you are wondering if a GA-2100 with metal mod will be 1:1 the same as the real one in this deal. No it won't be. Not only will you get Casio quality on everything with the real deal, there are major differences in construction between the GA-2100 and the watch in this deal. e.g. the mod band uses all spring bars. The only similarities are in the exterior design.

        Amazing stuff, thank you.

Yes, I have done the "Royal Broke" mod, as well as the black one on the right. Both metal mods cost me just under $200 from Aliexpress a couple years ago. I have worn both a total of maybe 10 times.

I would prob buy this watch if I didn't buy the Ciga Black Hole. Edit: and already have a Royal Broke

      • Hey @blacksmithnpc thanks for that really informative post. You've lead me on a big rabbithole. I'm looking at building something like this, is it possible to build it in S2100 size as I can't see them selling S2100's with that colour dial also can't see anyone on aliexpress selling a s2100 face + metal kit.

        https://imgur.com/a/wMEvhzb?fbclid=IwAR0hriV9or-efTnj8MjGFUb…

If I have to buy it in GA-2100 size do you have any recommendation on which gen looks the most like this pic or if any would look better on the smaller wrist. Also which store you used?

Sorry tried PM'ing you but couldn't get through.

        • " is it possible to build it in S2100 size as I can't see them selling S2100's with that colour dial also can't see anyone on aliexpress selling a s2100 face + metal kit."

Yes you can get the metal mod kit for S2100 on Aliexpress. Search for "GMA-S2100 metal mod" on Aliexpress, I think that's what I searched for at the time and there were a few sellers, just make sure you spend some time to vet the sellers as I described (comment down the bottom) to narrow down which one to order from.

Here is a good example of a seller I would buy from just from the first page of search results. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005003682943042.html

          • @n3ck3ntry8bort0rgasm: Legend appreciate the help! Just wondering I saw you were interested in building stuff "for the build" assuming that you enjoy doing that. Would you be interested in building one for cost plus commission for your time as well? If so do you mind opening up your DM's. If not all good really appreciate this advice.

            • @ClintonL: "Would you be interested in building one for cost plus commission for your time as well?"

No sorry I won't be doing builds. Firstly I said that as in "I would like to try it myself" since I think I can do it for myself. But I have never actually done a single mod kit conversion. My G-shock experience is simply limited to battery changes over the years, and just only recently I purchased a cheap $50 Casio to practice disassembling further and performing mods on (not big mods, minor ones like inserting coloured film in front of the LCD display).

And even if I was experienced with the Aliexpress Metal mod kits, I don't think I would take on that responsibility since there are things that can possibly go wrong. I would rather just point others in the direction and leave the rest up to them.

But if you have steady hands and can work with small screws (be gentle don't over tighten or force things) it won't be that difficult to perform the Metal mod on the GMA-S2100. You don't even have to open up the back of the watch. I mentioned this in the comment above, but just be careful when screwing the metal case into the resin screw holes of the watch. You don't want to damage those screw threads in the hole, so first make sure the watch is inserted into the metal all the way and aligned properly. Then when putting each screw in, turn it anti clockwise with gentle pressure until you feel a slight "skip", this means the metal screw's thread has found the watch's resin screw hole thread. Then slowly tighten and don't over tighten it at the end.

One more thing which might be tricky for the first time, is releasing the springbars in the metal bracelet. You will most likely need to do this and remove "links" out of the bracelet because it is not sized correctly for everyone.
I recommend using the tool to release the spring bars from the inner side of the bracelet, so you do not have any chance of scratching the outer side of the bracelet which is the part you will see when you wear the watch.

              Hope this helps.

              • @n3ck3ntry8bort0rgasm: All good appreciate the reply mate. I'm lookin on youtube videos and some you have to open up the face and some legit you just screw it ontop of the current case?

                https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005012042679.html?spm=a2…

Was looking at this all metal case which is pretty cheap.

I'll taken end links out of a seiko watch before but the spring bars are a bit of a pain. Will get a watch repair kit off amazon to try make it easier.

                • @ClintonL:

I'm lookin on youtube videos and some you have to open up the face and some legit you just screw it ontop of the current case?

Yeah that's how it's done. The part you remove from the original watch is just the resin bezel. The case inside is water tight and has the glass on it still. The new metal bezel just goes around it like the original resin bezel did.

                  https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005012042679.html

Yeah I mean that listing qualifies for 2 of the 3 things I would look out for. It has decent % feedback and some reviews, but the number of store followers is very low. There is a small chance that those reviews were farmed by the seller themselves.

For example the link I shared in a comment above, has a decent following so those reviews are more likely to be genuine. The choice is totally up to you though. If you are worried about the lower % feedback, I would say it's pretty good for the size of the following they have.

Will get a watch repair kit off amazon to try make it easier.

Yeah I would wait and see what's included with the mod kit before ordering extra tools from Amazon. They list that tools are included "Package: bezel + strap + screws + tools". I just can't confirm exactly what tools, but I assume everything you need is included in the kit.

Would be fun to own at $300, otherwise this is too expensive for a Casio. I would have expected better dial legability and sapphire glass at this price.

    • +1

I have seen this in person under lights, and even at $300 I would have to think long and hard about picking it up due to the poor dial legibility. Most of the Casioaks without white hands are very poor to read if not in direct sunlight.

      • The Lume looks good. But yeah I agree the colour of the hour markers and dial are not the easiest to see. Also one more thing but this is similar with all analog watches, I don't like how it looks with the light. It's a slight improvement over the GA-2100 but it still looks a bit cheap IMO in the way the light bounces off the dial so it's obvious where the light is.

Comparison is here at 9:34, first two are the resin models. https://youtu.be/xWZi-C0Napk

        • Legibility Probably ok on the bronze model, right ? I wouldn't touch the S/S for the legibility issues (can't believe they didn't try to address this given the complaints about it with the GA 2100.).

          • @y2k: Yeah it will be better. I think the worst is the all black resin GA-2100-1A1 and the the GM-B2100-1A is not all that different but in grey, maybe the hour markers have a slight metallic finish.
The GM-B2100 do seem to have decent lume though, so hopefully in low light situations the lume will glow a bit making it easier to read.

Not sapphire glass? Is a pity was kinda cool.

  • Hmm. Nice , lovely, Beautiful

I'd take this over a Rolex.

    great find!!

    • for those that complains not to get this, here are few things coming from a modder myself and I have all of these:

    • yes, you can do mods for the plastics models. Though keep in mind those are straight copy design of AP (smooth bezels no text, bracelet also Ap style, with carbon copy pattern and buckle - not very comfortable ). This, you get Casio design look similar to the square model. And also the finishing is way way better.

    • No sapphire. I would much prefer mineral cystal on this model so that i can beat them around and not worry much about it. As sapphire is more prone to shattered when drop. I'm good with Sapphire for all my other mechanical watches where I'm more to baby them. I have dropped a few sapphire through out the year, and shattered 2 in my life time….So yeah, makes no sense for sapphire crystal on a Gshock really……. those are supposed to withstand 12m drop as any other Gshock ..

    • I have no comment a bout readability of the dial, yes, they are harder to read than other models, shame.

hmmm …$600 gshock …to me that is like mc donald’s and a $30 burger ……

Has anyone bought from them? Do they have ABN with gst invoice?

  • -4

Understand its a good price but that is expensive for a Casio.

    Story Time…

When I was in China a few years back, and had a nice looking Casio priced around ~$200 on my arm and was visiting a specific watch market a group of them gathered around and asked 'is that a genuine Casio!'. At first I didn't get the question being that Casio wasn't an impressive brand. When I replied 'Yes', they all giggled, I understood soon after that they were laughing at how westerners pay the exorbitant retail prices of these cheaper brand watches, to them they are worth pennies as they sell identical Rolex watches for less then a typical Casio's RRP.
Right after this I bought an identical Herman Miller with paperwork for about $70, I also can never buy a Casio again.

    • Herman Miller, as in the fancy armchair brand?

      • Well that is embarassing and probably hit my credibility and the resulting negs. I was shopping for chairs at the time and somehow likened Breitling to Herman Miller.

  • I have the plastic model ga-b2100. It fits my need pretty well: solar charged, light weight, and keeping accurate time.
Just wondering, why people like heavy (metal) watches? Especially when it's not a suit watch.

    • "Just wondering, why people like heavy (metal) watches?"

You mean full metal including band?

This is what I think happened, first it was just metal case for aesthetics and long term durability. Metal case watch itself feels too heavy, so a metal band adds weight but then balances the weight on your wrist.

  • Lug to lug: 49.3mm

  • Shakira is in shambles

  • This model looks the same for $500 less, except for the bracelet?
    https://www.mastersintime.com/g-shock-metal-covered-casioak-…

    • +4

No Solar power and Bluetooth if that matters

    • $180 is a good price for that watch I think.

I saw it on FCW AU for $218 shipped or around that with red sale text. 15% off code wouldn't apply though so I didn't post a deal.

  • $1200 rrp for a casio wow…

  • +2

    My pick would be:

    Casio Analog GA-B2100-1A1
    https://www.amazon.com.au/Casio-Analog-GA-B2100-1A1ER-Black-…

    Modding kit:
    https://www.skxmod.com/products/-skxmod-gen.4-casioak-ga-ga-…

Watch $179.32 + modding kit $143.82 = $323.14. Half the price and no big G-shock text on the watch case.

    • +2

      "modding kit $143.82"

There are many more variations and for cheaper on Aliexpress. Just takes a bit more effort to find a decent seller.
A reputable seller's store should have 1000's of followers and 95%+ store rating. Also you should be checking for positive reviews with photos on the item page to confirm customers are receiving exactly what they order (sometimes sellers will use wrong pictures and don't bother to fix them).

For example from a quick search now I can see they now have a diver version with numbers going around outside.
      https://ae01.alicdn.com/kf/S1d395bdd97e94c07b1354cb6ee4dc6d0…

They also have a version with no screws, which I prefer. I don't like the look of screws but I have seen versions with 8 screws like SKXMOD and ones with 4 screws.
      https://ae01.alicdn.com/kf/S36639fa0c63b4c22969c0066adb6eaaf…

And G-shock logo replica with Oak style metal band. (previously it came with Casio replica metal band)

Use WS20 lol I bought from first class watch last week…

    That watch is $624

  • is the window made of sapphire?

    • +1

No mineral glass. Reason? Mineral is more resistant to shock and shatter, which lines up with G-shock's toughness.

Just make sure to blow off any dust and wipe it with a microfibre cloth, I doubt you will scratch it. I have used a few mineral glass G-shocks myself and never seen a scratch.
