  • How and where do I select free delivery? I click on the > button next to Fast Delivery (below quantity) but no options are for free delivery.

    • +1

At checkout before you pay you can click on the > button next to the fast shipping and there's some options. "More options" reveals even more free methods.

I'm doing it through the app.

      • +1

Maybe account related. I've tried app and desktop browser but don't get free shipping options. I get 5 shipping options but none are free.

        • Potentially. New account? VPN?

          • @Clear: Not new account but have not used it for a few years. No VPN on my phone and tried through cellular data as well.

    • +5

Free delivery is only avail for single unit. if u select multiple units, shipping gets added

      • +1

Yep. I purchased 3x 1 units separately to get the free shipping. Such a pain.

  • Purchased..thanks OP

  • I have all Xiaomi/Aqara sensors ATM and a Xiaomi robot vac all through the modded Mi Home app. What if any are the steps to be able to integrate Tuya stuff in. Can I use my existing Xiaomi gateway hub?

    • What is this modded Mi Home app?

        • +1

Does it come with a picture of shirtless Vladimir on a horse?

        • Tried this and my devices are still mixed between Mainland China region and other ones (ie. I need to switch to see them) :/

          • @Deviner: Not 100% but I think it says you need to re register any devices not on mainland. I think it uses only mainland to get full device capability but also translate it

            • @knobbs: Ahhh, good idea. I'll try re-registering them and see if I can maybe get them all on one region if I'm lucky - thanks.

    • No

  • Can I order 4 times then I don't need to pay shipping. Has someone ordered like that?

    • +1

Yep you can do it. Either you'll get 4 separate packages or one big one.

  • Can you bypass tuya with these types of things if using home assistant?

    • These seem to wifi based so I'd assume you can use localtuya.

For battery powered devices I usually go the zigbee route with zigbee2mqtt plumbed into home assistant.

    • +3

If you have Zigbee on HA, use this instead https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005122316947.html

      • Make sure you select the right colour, two options wifi or zigbee

I am balls deep in the tuya ecosystem so I can't possibly not spend $6.28 on this.

    • +10

Tuya will probably sell you a sensor to measure depth of said balls.

  • i paid $5.93 for it

    • I got fleeced at $6.28

  • Not sure what Tuya means in English. But in Mongolian, it's 'light'. Morning light, like ray of light, x-rays and a common part of names. I saw some Tuya light deals and thought they were Mongolian.

    • +4

It's a platform for "smart" devices.
      https://www.tuya.com/

Alot of the rebranded shit you see out there, for example mirabella at kmart is just rebranded TUYA gear that uses a different app. I've got a whole bunch of different devices of different brands (e.g. DETA from bunnings) that work with this ecosystem.

      • Even Arlec (sold at bunnings, generally on that huge WIFI your Home stand) is able to be added to the Tuya main app.

      • And don't forget Kogan smart lights and switches fall under Tuya.

        • And kogan portable air conditioners

    • Good to know , on other note, It means graffiti in Chinese:)

    • +2

涂鸦智能(Tuya Smart) is a Chinese company.
      涂鸦 Tuya means doodle/graffiti

  • Does this connect to the internet for remote monitoring?

    • +2

Yes it feeds back to me so I can see what kind of temperature is your ideal temperature.

      • What are you a temp nazi!?

        • +1

          Temporary National Socialist

  • Thanks op, got a few.

  • Says estimated delivery march! So for autumn and winter then

  • Thanks OP.
Ordered it for 1.10 AUD with free delivery.

Zigbee ones for around same price here https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005122316947.html (they also have the wifi one)

OP's seller also has Zigbee: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005004958072503.html

Should also say, if you want to steer away from batteries, it's pretty easy to rig these so that they can work with a USB cable.

  • I am able to control my air conditioner using google home and was hoping to buy some of these to create some basic smart control.
I am assuming Google Home doesn't have the capability to create rules like "when the temp is X, turn on the air conditioner".
Do I need any other devices to do this?

    • It says "works with google assistant" but I wouldn't rely on it as it is more about voice control rather than home automation.

      Better Options (my opinion only):
      - Something like this SONOFF TH Origin Smart Temperature and Humidity Monitoring Switch but the Aircons power would need to be hardwired to this.
      - I use/recommend HomeAssistant and compatible devices which are many. One can then easily create automatons to monitor the temp and turn on/off aircon using it assuming the Aircon is connected to a smart plug.

      • Thanks! I have seen a few recommendations for HomeAssistant.
What do you use to run HomeAssistant? Any recommendations on device?

        • +1

Excuse the long answer but as I have this info handy, will note it for what it's worth!

Many use a Rasp Pi but I run mine as a Virtual Machine on a very old basic desktop PC and misc parts I had around). I leave that run 24/7 as have other virtual machines also hosted on the same box like.Pi-Hole, Sophos UTM firewall and a Virtual with Win10. Works well and HomeAssistant doesn't require a lot of resources other than getting one's head around how to use it! Perhaps half the fun of it I suppose (for the most part).

Example PC: This OZB Ad today for this HP ELITEDESK 800 G3 SFF is a newer model of the one I use. Mine is the 2 year older G1 model. All I did was add more RAM (32GB total as I run 7 VM's), have a 256GB SSD and a 1TB (optional) sata HDD as a dumping ground for VM's and space for a Win10 Data partition (I store media on it so acts as a central NAS).

          • PC OS for virtual machines I use vmWare ESXi which is free. It boots from a USB stick so no dedicated Boot HDD space required for it.
          • Bluetooth is via a USB Bluetooth this one to be exact. Cheap to buy locally and works very well being a CSR chip.
          • Zigbee is also via USB and using the SONOFF Zigbee 3.0 USB Dongle Plus
          • Additional Network Nics (optional but handy if running a ESXi box) added a example only HP NC375T PCI-E 4 Port Gigabit Ethernet card does the job nicely and reliable being HP and coming from Servers.

Anyhow, hope that helps a little?

          • @Borg: Wow, this is very detailed, i havent looked into this route (I have seen the Rasberry Pi option) and it looks like i have some more reading/research to do.
            Thanks for sharing!

            • @discod: Nothing wrong with Rasp Pi and they are small and cheap to run. Downside is that they not necessarily dirt cheap to buy when all said and done i.e. cost of power supply, case, SSD Card and are limited to single application.

A small old cheap PC has a lot more options and grunt BUT cost more to run power wise and a much larger footprint. In my case, I wanted to run a Pi-Hole, HomeAssistant & a Firewall. Made more sense to just use a Small Form Factor PC which don't take up much space as they don't need a monitor or keyboard once setup. It's all browser based.

Any old laptop sitting in the bottom drawer would do the job as well for HomeAssistant :-)

          • @Borg: Surprised to see Sophos UTM mentioned. I'm running mine off an old one and it works really well. HA is just too slow on the Pi.

            • @Clear: ……am surprised to hear that HA is slow on the pi as I have never tried it. good to know. I stand corrected on my above comment and only based it off what others were doing (or so I thought) :-)

Sophos UTM……yeah, being running it for years and still on vr9 and not X. Nice bit of software esp being free for home version.

              • @Borg: Well it's still usable but slower than alternatives out there. Even Docker can run terribly off a Pi.

The old school Sophos UTMs are so much better than the newer XGS anyway. I've retired so many that I've been working out all different ways to reuse.

      • I use a lot of Tuya devices with google home and I have a work around (potentially). If this sensor reaches certain temp or goes below certain temp, then Tuya app automation can turn on a light bulb. I then use google automation to turn on my heater (which high is not Tuya).

  • April delivery if ordered today

  • Thanks. Got some.

OOS, another use for these are put them in the dryer to tell when its done, rather then running it for longer than required.

  • missed it, any similar deals ?

  • March 10 for me. Ordered 4 for $30. Hmm

  • These guys just sent me a message advising they cannot ship at this price anymore due to increased expenses. Have asked me to pay .99c extra to ship soon or cancel the order… dodgy!

  • I did the dirty and ordered 4 separate ones and they messaged me to cancel all of them….

  • These devices were delivered today. However, I have had no success in getting them to pair with Tuya. Normally I have no trouble pairing Tuya devices but no luck with these.

    Anyone else had success?

    • Opened one up. It has a ZigBee module in it. So yes, it is Tuya compatible but only if you have a Tuya ZigBee Hub running.

      • Confirming they all paired to Tuya once I setup a Tuya ZigBee hub.

  • +1

Wow these chew through battery. I got 4 of them. Two have used 20% battery in the past 6 hours. They need to be mains powered or better designed to go to deep deep sleep between sensor reads.

    • +2

I am actually happy they sent me the wrong items. I received the Tuya Zigbee versions and they seem to sip at the battery power. All of the ones I've got have been in action for over 2 weeks and they are still showing 100% battery. I don't know if that is because the battery sensor only has 2 levels of precision, 100% and 0% or if Zigbee really is a miserly on battery usage as it claims to be. I'd imagine a traditional WiFi device would be fairly quick to consume all the electrical power contained in 2 AAA cells.

      • Ok @airtime thanks, how do i know which ones i have and if zigbee what hub do you recommend
        we get?

        Thanks.

        • The easiest way to identify was the little instruction sheet included in the box - it mentions ZigBee and Bluetooth as the only connection methods. Perhaps I should have 'RTFM' before prying one open ;-)

I bought the Tuya ZigBee hub from Amazon linked below. It has worked fine without issue so far. I chose it because it had next delivery and was cheaper (at the time I bought it was 20% off) than other options I found.

  • Anyone able to adjust this to sense temperature more often? Only been able to see updates every hour…

    • Nope, only one report an hour.

5-7°c out too and ripping through batteries too. I guess it might be too good too be true.

      Would alternate firmware help?
