On sale is this Tuya-based Smart IR Controller/Blaster that has an inbuilt temperature and humidity sensor. It can be configured to do a number of actions including turning on the aircon or heater when a certain temperature is reached, turning on the humidifier when the humidity reaches a certain temperature, using your phone as a universal remote for IR devices like your aircon, TV etc, having IR devices turning on/off at specific times and a whole lot more.

  • Very very cheap, but unless home assistant works not an option for my setup.
Would otherwise recommend waiting for another deal on the BestCon mini which doesn’t have temperature but is small and works well

    • I didn't bother Googling if it has support. People can research themselves if they really want to know.

I know basic Tuya IR controllers are supported.

    • It's a Tuya device, surely it'll be ok with HA?

      • My luck with Tuya and HA has been pretty bad, I had to sign up for an API to access it and it expired after a month.

        • Aside from some things that I literally can't get a ZigBee version of, I've given up on Tuya wifi altogether.

          • @Moondog: Their zigbee is pretty bad too, they have lots of undocumented protocols. But at least everyone else plays by the rules

I have one of these. Bought 2 separate ones from different sellers, hoping they will have a flashable chipset, but they dont
The HA does not see temp/humidity via the cloud Tuya integration but can see if using LocalTuya.
From HA you cannot control any devices. The way around it is to create tap-to-run shortcut in the Tuya app. Then you can get them into HA and you execute the shortcut.
        Google integration works fine

Setting AliExpress to AUD or letting PayPal do the conversion of USD to AUD will be inflated. Currency conversion free card billed in USD in PayPal gets you the exchange rate.

    1. It does not have a built-in battery and requires constant USB power supply.
    • +2

Yes that's standard for IR blasters.

    • It's running wifi, battery life would be terrible if non-wired

  • thanks op. Ordered one for my air con. Hopefully it works with kogan app.

does this work with a Mitsubishi Heavy Industries aircon?

    • I too would like to know. The last 2 IR blasters I've bought haven't worked and I've installed all MHI throughout my house :/

      • yea same here, I would like to know too, ive got 4 of the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries 2kw units I would like to upgrade to wifi controlled.
The Mitsubishi Heavy Industries wifi option thingies are like ridiculously overpriced.

        • I can't tell you about this unit but the Broadlink units are excellent and not hard to configure.

          • @Moondog: I couldn't get the broadlink one I bought to pair with the app after hours of trying. I tried 3 apple devices and 2 android with no luck.

      • So you've pointed the remote at the IR blaster to program the buttons and it hasn't worked? Weird.

    • Not sure about this one but broadlink works with MHI

    • Yeah, I would like to know as well. Have a mitsubishi electric ducted 3 zone system, currently controlled via the panel on the wall. What can I do to make it "smart" or wifi enabled?

    • Within the App try different models of devices to see if you can get something to send the right signal.
I have a very very old Mitsubishi Electric unit and i got 1 of these devices (not this model exactly the basic model) to go thru the modes and turn On/Off.

I cant use all the functions but all i ever do is tell the unit to turn on/off as the temp ive set it to is perfect for the summer months.

    • Item arrived and I can confirm it doesnt work with my Mitsubishi Electric aircon remote. In learning mode it recognises power but doesnt recognise mode, temp up or temp down. Dud!

  • Does anyone know if these devices would this work on a garage gate?

    • +2

Normally RF. These are what you use with garage doors.

      • Yep, these are super easy to set up. I got mine working just last week, after having to procrastinate for a month lol

        • what brand door/remote do you have?

          • @jeffr: I got no idea, mate.

            Something T-800, I know it's not a Merlin…

Maybe it's a product of Skynet

  • Any way to get this to turn on /off a Breezair evap aircon? Thinking 'turn on vent mode when outside temp is less than indoor temp' and 'use fan mode only when cool/ wet mode reaches a certain temp.

No idea what the remote use to turn the unit on in the roof. Not IR as it isnt line of site.

    • I remember reading from another thread that Breezeair is RF remote.

    • Generally those EVAP wall controllers have RF Signal and not IR Signal.
Find the Model of unit you have and look up the model, Some models dont even have the RF functionality built in and it needs to be added on so it can even read RF Signal to begin with.
      example - https://www.airwaresales.com.au/product/bonaire-evaporative-…

      • Yeah, it would be 400mhz ish RF. Can you get something like this that works on RF?

        • Yep, these devices also do exist that talk on RF. Just search up Tuya

  • So a cheaper version of the broadlink pro?

  • Comes up for $5 including shipping for me now. Worth a test.

  • Does it have inbuilt codes for various IR devices like TVs?

  • @Clear does the 3 in 1s you can set the air con to turn off at a certain temp?

    Thanks.

E.g. I want say turn air when it gets to 27 degrees.

Then turn off when it gets to 21 degrees.

  • Google Home assistant only shows the devices' humidity reading, cant get temperature. Any ideas?

    • I've got the same issue but when you ask Google it will tell you.
