    Soldered 8GB RAM, no

    • You can get the 16GB model, but price increases (on Amazon) to $2100!

      • Isn’t the 512gb/16gb model only $1599 at JB, is that a better deal?

        • Another $600! Nah.

the HP envy deal is better, you get touch screen and 360 flip

    8gb… Wth

    Salute to the ram

  • I remember getting this from TGG for $799 with $100 cashback and about $125 Store Cash. Then I sold it for a profit because I never used it.

Can people please stop posting 8gb soldered laptops if the price is greater than $500.

    It's a (profanity) pointless proposition in 2023

There's much more to a laptop than RAM.

I'd much prefer a laptop with 8GB/higher build quality than a chonk with more ram, low build quality, bad screen, etc.

      • +1

I second this. I owned a chonk with 32GB of RAM and it was an absolute waste of a laptop

    • That would entirely depend on the architecture of the machine , its OS, its software and its use case.

  • was cheaper

also I ended up returning it because connecting a docking station rendered it useless

  • +1

I've got one, the screen is amazing and the soldered 8GB RAM w/ no expansion slot isn't an issue for my use case but could be a deal breaker for many.

Bought 16GB model from Binglee with 10% Bonus GC few days ago for $1382. Now OOS.

    Soldier on with 8GB

  • I got this during the TGG sale, apart from the 8GB soldered ram this laptop is very solid and high quality. keyboard is very good, screen is awesome (wish it was a bit brighter tho as anything under 85% during daytime indoors feels not bright enough)

    • I rarely have my brightness at/on 50%. It's usually 30-40% on most monitors or laptop screens. Any higher and the brightness makes my eyes feel like they're going to pop out. Too much white space I guess.

    256GB is disgraceful on a $1000 laptop.

8GB ram ought to be enough

+1 to even out your neg.

With a fast enough SSD, 8GB is completely usable. Windows 11 manages virtual memory file just fine. I have 8GB RAM on my laptop, but I work on multiple browsers with multiple tabs at the same time, and in some cases, running a sandbox or a VM in parallel. The most I've seen Windows pump my virtual memory up to is 24GB.

Of course, dedicated RAM is ideal, but I honestly don't think 8GB is a problem anymore as long as you have a fast SSD.

The principle behind being disgusted by soldered ram that yields no real benefit other than inhibiting upgradablitity or reparability is sound.

    • It limits returns to the factory. Most common fault with laptops is memory not seated correctly.

(No doubt from people opening it up and fiddling)

8gb however is criminal its basically garunteeing this is e-waiste.

Should be a minimum standard of 16gb memory and 512gb of SSD on a laptop.

It was common 10 years ago. Compare this with a 2013 MacBook, and the only improvement is the CPU.

  • Don't quote me on this, but I'm fairly certain that even though the 8gb ram is soldered, it still runs in dual-channel, so performance shouldn't be hindered too much.

  • Lame only 8 gig of ram. This is pretty much junk

What would be the best 16gb RAM deal at jbhifi at the moment?
I still have my $400 gift card from Christmas and need a laptop

    • Commenting so I can come back later as well :)

  • Lenovo Hinge issues?

    • yeah be care full with the hinges ive has 2 thinkpads hinge break just out of warranty

  • 8GB hahahahahahahahaha

  • I got one of these mid last year.

Screen and performance are great, keyboard is decent and backlit, camera is pretty poor especially in low light. Pretty light with a low footprint. Could use an SD card slot, and an extra full size USB port, as minimalist USB-C everything doesn't always mean better. The space is there.

Battery life isn't the best in my experience, but overall I'm happy.

    • I had the AMD equivalent and just upgraded to the Slim 7 Pro X.

I agree with all of this, although I have never used the camera. The Pro X added the extra USB which is great. The AMD variant also has quite good battery (I got 8+ hours on battery saver when at uni) but cannot comment on the battery of the Intel. Overall would reccomend to anyone as they are a well-built, well sized machine with a great screen.

  • Looking for a new laptop.. is it best to get 16gb ram or 16+8 or 16+16

    • +1

What is your intended use is the most important question.

  • 8gb ram is a disgrace
