    Good deal for pandas.

      Hmmmmm, towels!

No it's not, because it's literally not bamboo. It's cellulose from bamboo, which is the exact same as cellulose from any other plan.

      Literally. No. Trace. Of. Bamboo.

The neg is for false advertising.

        It's cellulose from bamboo

Good deal for fat pandas then…

        Me too - it's rayon.

This goes into it a bit:

        https://sewport.com/fabrics-directory/bamboo-fabric

These guys seem to use the fibre method: https://www.withlifeclothing.com/blogpage/turkey-bamboo-clot…

Sounds like most bamboo textile is made using the nasty method. Not sure how you tell with this particular item though. I think if it's the cellulose extract version, then yes, it shouldn't qualify as bamboo fabric. Might as well get it from any plant.

If it's cheap, it's the chemical method.

If you have the mechanical method then you know what you're doing and you advertise that you're doing it properly.

          • +1

            @justtoreply: Seems highly likely.

OP, are you aware of the provenance of the textile used in this item?

Companies like you need to be sued for false advertising, same as happened in the US for calling their items bamboo.

    Example: https://www.ftc.gov/business-guidance/blog/2022/04/55-millio…

It is only bamboo if it is mechanically prepared (not chemically prepared) and pretty much nobody in the world has the machine to do this.

never heard of turkish bamboo before

    • +4

Most Turkish people have never heard of bamboo either, and I have never seen a textile product made of bamboo in Turkey. This is probably a blend of cotton and viscose made from birch tree.

      • Turkey is a major manufacturer and exporter of textile products to Europe, very rare are textile imports made to Australia. They are very advanced in textile manufacture, at one stage they were just behind Italy in fashion and textile. There is even organic bamboo textile industry in Turkey, yes bamboo is not grown in Turkey but that doesn't mean bamboo products cannot be manufactured in Turkey

        • +2

As advanced as 1894 or is your viscose fibre made with the new updated 1904 J. P. Bemberg process?

    • What do you think Turkish pandas eat then?

  • Been using turkish towels non-stop past 4-5 years. They are rought and not soft, but light weight, take small space and dry quickly so your towels wont smell. Ideal for people who train but also home use.
