D-Link DSL-G225 Wireless N300 ADSL2+/VDSL2 Modem Router $119 (Was $129) + Delivery ($0 C&C/ in-Store) @ JB Hi-Fi

36

I’ve been looking for a basic modem/router to sign up to super loop or ABB or some cheap ISP that doesn’t supply a modem and came across this.
RRP $129 at JB
$75 with free shipping at PCbyte
Price matched at JB in store (easy enough)
Used my $10 perks voucher and it was $65 in the end and don’t have to wait for delivery

Prehistoric. Better off with a Telstra modem off Gumtree/marketplace and running it in bridge mode with a decent router eg:Asus, TP-Link, etc.

Yeah this D-Link DSL-G225 isn't a good buy even for $75 with wireless N and 100M ports. Telstra smart modem gen 2 by itself performs faster with wireless AC and Gigabit ports and is only $15-$40 on Gumtree.

  • well it is basic so i guess theres that

Ah good old days of whirlpool, when everyone who used a free modern, was told they were idiots and needed to spend $180 or more.

  • Yuck.

  • Not a deal.. not even recommended

You can pick up similar level of routers for free (or near free) on GumTree or Facebook marketplace.
These are literally e-waste at this time.

    • I got one in my garage that I put up for $10 on Gumtree…No one bought, and this was 2 years ago.

No one in their right mind would buy a N300 for even $20…forget about $119.

  • I've got a better spec one in my shed you could've had for free

  • Cheaper at mwave $93.95, but there are even cheaper options available if you only want WIFI N 2.4ghz.
    Same modem but cheaper

I knew I could rely on the ozb community to give me their honest product review/feedback. I’ll be returning mine asap then… on that note, is there anyone close to inner north Melbourne who has a better modem router to give away? I’m happy to take away your ewaste for you =) I’m no gamer or tech literate person so had no idea this was antiquated. I wonder why jb are selling it still then. Probably for people like me

  • guys hope you can shed some lights. I'm currently using dodo router (HG@659). However do encountered lots of issues (eg. devices wont connect to 5G). I was thinking of changing it to a better. How do i know which router able to support my current NBN (it's fttc). I know there are different types of nbn and not all router support it. How can i tell from the spec if it support FTTC?
