[QLD, NSW, VIC, TAS] ASUS DSL-AX82U AX5400 Dual Band MU-MIMO Wi-Fi 6 Modem Router $349 C&C/ in-Store Only @ MSY

300

ASUS DSL-AX82U AX5400 Dual Band MU-MIMO WiFi 6 Modem Router.

A good all-in-one modem and router option for FTTN/FTTB if you don't want to have a separate modem and router. $349 is lowest I've seen - lower than UK Amazon and equal to historical low.

Not sure about delivery, I was able to pick it up in Auburn NSW, there's stock in other stores/states too.

I'd also expect JB Hi-Fi to price match (they currently sell it for $449).

Their address is 46 Dividend Street, Mansfield 4122 QLD which is Umart’s address.

Really good modem/router. JB had them for $299 late last year which I couldn't pass up. Really easy to setup and I like the ASUS firmware.

    • +2

GNUtons build of the Merlin firmware extends it even further :)

        Good pick up

Will this work for FTTP NBN?

        • +2

Yep you want the RT-AX82U for FTTP. I wouldn't get the UK version.

I got it from JB for $325 with the ask for a deal thing online. However I've spent 3hrs trying to connect it without any success, spoke to the ISP and they confirmed I've done everything right. I'm completely stumped after doing a firmware upgrade, several restarts and factory resets. Still go connection with the old Telstra Gen 2 (ISP is tangerine though now), so pretty disappointed. Maybe I got a dud. FTTN connection.

    • +2

I'll give you Asus setup instructions if you still have it. Did you wait at least 30 minutes before plugging in the Asus?

    • +3

Had no issues using mine with TPG FTTB, had a preset for it even as for a good bunch of other aussie ISPs

    • +1

Take it back, jb are cool. Swap for a router and bridge your Telstra Unit.

Telstra Gen 2 are great for FTTN sync speeds. Used them till I upgraded to FTTP.

Just had a read of the first review on MSY/deal link, might be worth a try:
"Modem is fast with multiple users and provides good coverage throughtout the house. Had an issue getting a dsl sync with telstra nbn, solved by changing mac address."

      • +2

You don't need to change your mac address. Wait at least 30 minutes for the DHCP lease to expire. Now you can plug in the Asus and set it up.

    • +2

There is an odd setting.in Asus routers to get them to work with FTTN.

Go into the router's setup page, then under Advanced Settings > click on LAN > click on IPTV tab > under LAN Port select Manual Settings from the list of ISP's > set Internet VID to 2 and PRIO to 0.

      • +2

Tangerine and most ISPs don't use a VLAN ID. Changing the VLAN ID to 2 only applies to certain ISPs - mainly TPG and iinet.

When did you ask for a deal? I've asked today on live chat and the best they could do was $344.

      • +1

dont forget the jb $10 perks discount at check-out after asking for best price via their online chat support.

this would be a good alternative to those crappy isp provided modem routers if it had voip but then again isps in general dont give out voip details so using a voip ata is pointless

im surprised there arent more high end modem routers with voip, i guess it's very niche and you're better off buying a mesh/ap setup whilst using the voip modem as the endpoint

Good price. It's a shame they don't have any for delivery, as i'm nowhere near any store for c/c lol :-(

I'm waiting for a tri band deal

Got one of these in the last deal. Absolutely stoked with it. Much better than the D-Link Taipan I replaced. Best FTTN modem i've ever used and a great price. There is also an Asus app that gives you full control of the modem from your phone or tablet.

    • Thanks for the review!
I have the D-Link Taipan DSL-4320L AC3200 modem router too.
Looking to replace it with either this deal ASUS DSL-AX82U AX5400 modem router, or with the TP-Link Deco X73-DSL AX5400 Mesh WiFi 6 modem router.
Seems like the Asus one is more popular?

      • +2

I looked at both as well, the Asus had many positive reviews and was available at the time. I was just mainly sick to death of all the issues with the D-Link (Constant dropping of the 2.4Ghz wifi) and the fact that it hasn't had a firmware update for 5 years. These both have wifi6 and I have had no issues at all with the Asus.

Asus has a traditional web interface login with more customizable settings, app for your phone and Asus AiProtection is free.

TP-Link Deco's are mainly controlled on your phone, there is a limited web interface and TP-Link Homeshield has free and pro subscriptions. Refer to the TP-Link Deco X73-DSL user manual.

      • Thanks! Decided to go with Asus since it has more customisable settings.
Ask deal through live chat and is offered $345.
Setup is easy and works well with TPG FTTB so far!

  • This is $329 atm at Umart for the next 5 days. I managed to get JB to match it online so saved some on postage compared to Umart.
