30% off Aussie Made Merino Thermal Tops + $10 Delivery ($0 with $125 Order) @ Ottie

120
OZBARGAIN30

We've got way too many of our Australian made merino thermal tops in stock. And, it's the middle of summer, you know. So, we're offering 30% off for you lot here on OzBargain until midnight tomorrow. Hitting the snow in winter? Hiking the likes of the Overland Track or NZ where you should ALWAYS be carrying thermals? Heading to the frosty Northern Hemisphere perhaps? These are a good buy.

Actually, here's a fun fact with our thermal gear. We've had several customers - scientists, doctors, support staff - buy who are heading to the likes of Macquarie Island and Antarctica. Pretty cool for us, a small business, to find out people are wearing our stuff in such far-away places. :)

Does anybody have some comments how they compare to Icebreaker? I am personally a huge Icebreaker fan and only buy highly discounted sale shirts. T-shirt’s for not more than $36 on sale and long arm shirts for not more than $60. I don’t care if the products are from the last season, but I have the feeling that $130 (even with 30% discount) per shirt is having a big price tag vs. such a long term company like Icebreaker. Icebreaker has a nice reward system and I usually get a shirt or cap for free on my birthday.

Agreed. The clearance sales at icebreaker always have what I want.
Keen to know how sizing compares with the two brands

Our lightweight tees run larger. They're relaxed fit (by design) and are longer than most (they're designed to stop ride up when you're wearing a pack, and easy tucking when you're wearing a jacket/fleece). Our thermal tops are very much a 'base layer' cut but are long too - sooooo many thermal tops are sooooooo short; it's stupid.

      Good question, TheHairPolice! (Cool username.)

Have a look at the reviews on our website, at TrustPilot, and Judge.me. (Easiest way to find 'em all is just Google 'Ottie Merino Reviews'.) And you'll see stacks of Icebreaker, Kathmandu, Macpac, et al, wears in their singing our praises.

In fact, our tagline 'say hello to your new favourite merino' wasn't us just being clever, it was in direct response to the fact that our customers were indeed saying that. That we were their new favourite merino brand.

Why do we charge $130 for a top? Our product is ethically made in Melbourne to an exceptionally high quality.

If you shop with us email us your birth date and we'll send you something for it. :P

Yes agree the price is the problem here not necessarily the product. Katmandu have similar prices items at normal price which is same price at the 30% discounted items from Ottie.

Hey Pbear. See my comment above. We're Aussie made (and ethically made - our makers are paid a living wage).

    • Despite being a "B Corp", Kathmandu have some pretty dodgy practices, e.g.: https://thenewdaily.com.au/finance/finance-news/2021/03/24/k…

(I'm not affiliated with either company except as a customer)

Can confirm we didn't add JobKeeper to our bottom line. In fact, we launched in mid-2020, amidst those crazy, early COVID days.

Chairman David Kirk said the company had “thought hard” about repaying taxpayers, but decided that doing so would be a transfer of shareholder funds to the government

Far out, whose funds? Never been particularly keen on Kathmandu as they seem to be just a business that sees selling outdoor gear purely as a way of making money rather than having any genuine interest in the outdoors. That statement doesn't do anything to dispel that feeling.

I would love to see someone like REI or MEC from North America come over here. Unfortunately I don't think the market would be enough to support it.

          • @nezumi: Back home there's an outdoor shop, Tiso, that was started decades ago by a climber and has grown to multiple branches across Scotland. They're still staffed predominantly by outdoor type people (frequently guides, instructors etc). It's more concentrated, but Scotland has a far smaller population. I reckon there's enough of a market here to support something similar. There have been a few over the years, but there aren't many left and those that are seem to morph into Kathmandu-like shops.

            • @banana365: Paddy Pallin is probably most similar to what you're describing Banana365. But, each capital city here has a few good independant specialty retailers staffed by passionate and knowledgeable people.

Being a bit cheeky are we, Headless?

  • Checked out the website. Shame no one does short sleeved v-neck mens marino t-shirts. I must be one of the few people who like them. The sold out boxers sounded interesting on the site. Alas currently sold out.

    • +1

We get loads of v-neck enquiries, so you're not the only one. Maybe later this year. We're focused on consistent production at the moment - manufacturing in Australia has it's challenges (e.g. lack of capacity).

Likewise boxers - hope to be back in production with these in a few months.
