What the (profanity)? Is the only difference the paddles on the back?… Are the sticks some magical new shit that don't drift?

    • +3

The sticks are removable, you can remove and replace them.
      It supports some button remapping
      That's about it.

      • +6

You forgot to mention it costs $34 PER stick to replace them, to replace both sticks costs roughly the same price as a brand new standard controller with a brand new battery.

  • +11

just a note that this has even worse battery life than the regular dual sense …

    • +5

The standard ps5 controllers have shocking battery life. Feels like half the life of a ps4 controller. I have to charge mine constantly.

      • -4

The battery is 50% bigger in the dualsense. Try turning off the adaptive triggers?

Tbh, who cares, just charge it after a gaming session. I'm getting prob 10 hours (not sure) off a full charge.. Ive only charged it twice to finish ratchet and clank. If you need more than 10 hours well.. That's not what you really need.

      • The battery life changes for me and I've largely been playing the same games on rotation (GT 7, Dark Souls, COD MW 2, Rocket League etc). With the built in speaker muted, and brightness lights dimmed, no vibration or haptic triggers - I can get a minimum of 7 hours…. or a maximum of 14 hours on my dual sense controllers. It's so random (when I get 20+ hours on my Xbox controller!).

I'd love to get the new PS5 controller, yes even though it's more expensive than I'd like it to be. The hold back is the battery life.

  • I’ll keep my EB pre-order for $287 with the DualSense trade-in deal.

    • +3

That's still crazy expensive, unless you're offloading a partially broken controller.

      • +2

Worth every cent for me given gaming is the only real hobby I spend money on and I game quite a bit.

It’s still overpriced and under featured (should have at least given us 4 paddles and a bigger battery) but I’ll get my monies worth.

        • +3

I mean I have lots of dumb cash to blow on silly things and I really was going to blow $250 on this just because it's near my birthday but man - $339 RRP? Not after I saw the features, really surprised how lacking it is.

Going to be a lot of "why did I buy this?" posts in 6 months.

          • +3

@hamwhisperer: I’m sure those buying it know exactly what they’re spending the money on!

            • +3

@MaximumEffort777: At least admit that it's got surprisingly few "wow amazing" features for the money. Honestly it makes the Elite look like a good deal!

              • +1

@hamwhisperer: Tell me, what “wow” features would you expect that aren’t there? You want it to play the games for you?

Yes, I think it’s overpriced by about $50 but the features it does include blow the Elite away and Elite’s have had nothing but QA issues since day one.

                • @MaximumEffort777: I'd like to be able to load a macro to have it play for me, yeah. Some games just have that one retarded sequence that nobody in the world enjoys and you have to do it due to completionist OCD

                • +1

@MaximumEffort777: I don't know, that's the thing you know? I don't know what would make me go "omg" but that's on them.

                  4 paddles for a start?

                  • +1

@hamwhisperer: Yep, I’ll admit 2 paddles is my one real gripe as I always used all 4 on my Elite controller.

          • +2

@hamwhisperer: The difference here is that my guy will be using this controller. Waste of money would be buying funko pops and dumb figurines that add zero value apart from aesthetics.
IMO, any gadget that will be continually used is always worth every cent.

  • +7

So they basically charge 3-4x a normal controller so you can fix the inevitable drift issues by swapping the thumbsticks etc. At your own cost instead of getting them returned under warranty??

Have a PS5 but the peripheral markups are ridiculous

    • Any issues within the first 2yrs will most definitely still by covered by your consumer rights for a $340 controller. Module replacement will be handy 3-4yrs down the track though.

      • +5

for $300 dollars they could include Hall Effect joysticks which is 30 year old technology that doesn't drift. Unbelievable that it doesn't have them, and especially at this price.

      • Yeah, I got mine first dualsense replaced at exactly 13 months cause of drift. EB were great. I feel like Sony is still pretending it isn't an issue though.

I feel for this price premium, they should be using better quality contacts/sticks/whatever that aren't going to wear out instead of the same faulty/cheap stuff

    • +1

I claim a new controlled every 12 months under warranty, JB hi-fi not Amazon give a toss.

They know it's an issue, so I just claim them a few months before warranty ends!

  • Only 10% off. I reckon can go down to 20% discount.

    • +2

$189 AUD in the next 18 months, because of lack of sales.

      • +1

        $200 would be okay

I may consider it at that price

      • Lol that's over 40% off. You must have great haggling skills.
Console and accessories margins aren't that high for a retailer to just give you that sort of discount. They'd be selling to you below their wholesale cost.

        • I'm suggesting Sony themselves discount due to slow sales

  • +5

I bought my PS4 for less

  • +2

Double it and pass it to the next person

  • +1

$300 for a controller. It's just the controller. If it were 2 controllers, that'd be steep, 1 controller? Less than RRP so it's fair to be here, but what are you doing considering buying this, seriously.

  • +3

    Is Alex Kidd built in?

    • +1

      Snail Maze if we're lucky.

  • -7

just the controller??? no game? wtf, where is the deal?…the moment you use a controller there is no "pro". please don't buy that crap. pure cash grab. I would really like to see the BOM and development costs $20/controller and that's a push.

  • +3

From the comments in here I’m guessing everyone just buys $70 standard controllers when they’re on discount which means these controllers would never have appealed to most, even at $150.

The newest Elite is $270 for the full kit and lacks:

    • Gyro;
    • adaptive triggers;
    • no mic;
    • no speaker; &
    • no touchpad

And has very basic rumble features and have had every issue under the sun since the first versions released.

    • +8

No need to compare to the elite imho. Is there $230+ of improvement over the dualsense?

      Herein lies the problem.

      • +5

Yep what this guy said, only 2 paddles too.

      • But Pro controllers compete in the same market so it makes perfect sense to compare them. No different to saying is an Elite controller with $200 more than a standard Xbox controller?

At the end of the day, things are worth whatever people are willing to pay for them.

Would we all like to pay less? Sure. Are some of us willing to pay for the convenience and customisation this controller offers? Yeah, we are.

      • The problem is it's a luxury product and every dollar over the price of a regular controller doesn't need to be analysed and broken down and justified except by the people who aren't ever going to buy it so they can complain about it.

        • Yes but no. That's true but in this case it's still overtly clear that they're taking the piss.

        • I would have pre-ordered this for say 180. Even with the current feature set.

People buy gadgets and toys but this is too high a demand.

I'm sure they could make something mind blowing good which I would also pay the full 339 for but this sure isn't it

    • The newest elite is just White. It offers nothing over the $250 black series 2. You just had 2 options on how to purchase it, Core plus extras…

      • +1

Probably no increase in quality either but my point was, the newest version is still more expensive than the last and only $70 cheaper than the Edge and lacks a heap of features that the Edge has.

IMO, the Edge is still worth $90 more than the Series 2 Elite and this is coming from someone who used the Elite’s for years until I got sick of getting them replaced.

Overall, most tech stuff in general these days is well overpriced.

  • -2

lmao this deal is for clowns

    • +4

      Sony knows their market.

    • Mate, put the salt away. This is a deal, unlike the guy who posted the $150 price error massage chair 🤦‍♂️

    • +12

lmao this deal is for clowns

      You would know.

      • +4

That was way too good mate

      • Wow! And it wasn’t a joke post…

      • Nice. I guess we can see who the real clown is!!!

      • -5

The real clowns were the ones that bought from me.

Who's the bigger clown? The clown or the clown that follows him?

        • +1

Wow, you’re literally bragging about scamming people on Ozbargain? Are you for real?

          • @aja12: If it was a scam the deal would have been deleted. Checkmate.

  • +2

I paid a bit over it for a new PS4 Pro console back in the day.
    Absolutely insane!

  • +6

This is a deal that I am happy to ignore. $300 for a controller with no Hall-effect triggers and in before Sony fanboys say that "oh but you can swap it out", remember the swapping costs money as well.

Learned my lesson with these "premium" and "elite" type of controllers. Never again with button stickiness on my XBOX Elite Controller first gen.

    • The swapping is included.

For both the sticks and the paddles.

      • "Replaceable Stick Modules: Play for longer with swappable replacement stick modules available to purchase separately."

Unless I missed something here it seems like the whole package includes according to this site https://www.ausgamers.com/news/read/3642905/dualsense-edge-w…

        DualSense Edge wireless controller
        USB braided cable
        2 Standard caps
        2 High dome caps
        2 Low dome caps
        2 Half dome back buttons
        2 Lever back buttons
        Connector housing
        Carrying case

      • -6

Ok so 6 analog nubs are included.

But the varied paddles are seperate purchases.

No need to neg you cheapskate dole bludgers.

        • +2

          Fixed

        • +1

I didn't downvote it mate. A bargain is still a bargain.

Edit: Thought you meant the post. Your comment definitely deserved one twat.

    • What you consider is worth of value is s personal opinion that is very subjective. Agree that you are looking for extra functionality, but for some serious gamers, just a couple extra pedals is enough to sell them on buying this. It will still do the same if not similar job of scuff controllers, which are similarly priced of higher.

  • obviously cheaper than normal thanks OP!

Its sort of like buying a ps2 joystick thats second hand for triple the price you paid to give you little to no advantage in a game.

The likes of the PS5… old tech basically PS5 pro or PS6 soon enough… The price tag doesnt warrant the purchase.

what funny times we live in.

  • +3

honestly, id be questioning even $200…

  • +3

    PlayFlation

  • +1

You’re all whinging like it’s the only option lol

It’s clearly a luxury product and not aimed at tight ass ozbargainers

Just like the elite v2 no one’s holding you at gunpoint to buy it
The market dictates prices not the company
If it’s overpriced it won’t sell and it’ll normalize accordingly

On that note it’s overpriced and no way I’d pay for that lol

    • +4

OzBargainers full of people who buy unnecessary cool technical gadgets if they're priced reasonably. There's posters here with $2500 4090 cards.

The Elite V2 is significantly cheaper and has more paddles and at least it looks far different from the stock controller.

I bet a heap of us would buy this, if we need it or not at $199 AUD.

    • +2

Well, I think it's more that you look at the controllers, you look at their headsets, you look at PSVR2, and while none of it is necessary it's just nuts how high they expect to charge for it all.

Hoping it all sells terribly and they realise their mistake, but then they might just constrain supply to keep margins high

      • Pre Ordered the Controller and will do the same for the PSVR2 once some proper unbiased reviews come out. Doing my part to keep the gaming industry moving forward instead of stagnating. Your Welcome!!

        • Absolutely disgraceful!!

Throwing away your financial future when you could have invested that on your way to your first million or paid off your $500K mortgage.

          /s

          • -1

@MaximumEffort777: There is a ton of crap i've wasted money on over the years but the PS5 would be the least of it….But seriously you really need to get a grip kid if what other people buy makes you so upset lol…Your first mistake was your assumptions about me. A little perspective most AAA new release games are $150 for the deluxe editions now so will you be upset if i buy 2 games? How about 4 or 40?

            • @Abraxsas: Ahhhh, you missed the /s!!!!

That’s a bit awkward you went on a rant while I was kidding which I thought was pretty obvious by my comment.

    • +1

It’s clearly a luxury product and aimed at people who take “gaming” way too seriously and need to become more financially mature.

      FTFW

  • +2

Id probably pay 249 for a black one. Haven't been a fan of this white first generation.

    • Yeah I switched my covers and Controllers, so it's bothering me.

  • +1

Insane price for a controller. If it’s a fight stick less so.

  • +2

    Waste of money.

  • $300 clams for a controller. Holy Moly!

  • +3

    Gf sony

  • +1

So the stick and D-pad aren't interchangeable, no hall effect, no mechanical switches, no light-actuated switches, no replaceable/customisable shell and it has no removable battery? Just normal stuff with convex, concave or tall stick grips and a paddle swap… This is pretty laughable. Sony appears to be trying to establish how little they can get away with including while calling something premium.
For fighters you're better off with a 3rd party fightpad, fightstick or building a hitbox, for FPS you're better off plugging in M&K and this is barely differentiated from the default controller for action and sports games. What is the use case or point of differentiation for this?

    • +1

Absolutely everything you're saying here, exactly.

It's a bit better than a regular controller but there's not a single OMG must have aspect to it.

Therefore, if it's going to be an overpriced gadget at least have the price kinda sensible?

      It's crazy

    • I don’t play fighters and I hate using a KB&M and if I did enjoy it, I’d be gaming on a PC. Who wants to sit back on their couch for a console gaming session while having to rest a KB&M on your upper thighs?

      Pretty simple really!

      • Sure I agree no keyboard and mouse on console too, I also don't play enough fighters or racing games for those dedicated controllers

I'm still not sure what it offers though over a standard dual sense that warrants this kind of money.

        • +1

Convenience. Having the back buttons is a God send in games like Rocket League, FPS’, racing games (without spending hundreds more on cockpit setups).

Add to that the ability to adjust stick tension, hair triggers, customise profiles to use on the fly and there’s what it offers me over the DualSense.

          Is it still overpriced? Yes.

Can I still afford to make those extra repayments on our mortgage? Yep.

Can I still spare that extra each week to salary sacrifice into my Super? Sure can.

Do myself, my wife and our 5 kids still live comfortably? You bet.

None of my hobbies cost money outside of gaming so it’s a worthwhile investment for me and I’ll get enjoyment out of every dollars worth.

          • @MaximumEffort777: I'm going to speculate you simply make a fair wack more money than me and so yeah at a certain income, like who cares - fair. That being said I'm hardly a poor. I like to hang on to my money by purchasing my expensive gadgets within reason. You know, $350 16TB HDDs for the NAS not $700 for 20TB, that kind of thing

More power to you. I just wish it was more reasonably priced, drop at least $100 off this thing and it'll be in hot demand for nerds with cash.

            • +1

@hamwhisperer: Money certainly isn’t a “who cares” thing for us, in fact it’s very much the opposite. We budget every cent for bills, investments, savings, takeout….you get the picture. We don’t spend money just for the sake of it or because we can.

What we do is spend the money we do have set aside for our own purchases, wisely. In this case I game on average 30+ hours per week (dependant on family activities) and it’s how I spend my alone free time, so $340 ($260 after discounts, trade-ins etc) on something I’ll use for hours everyday is a solid investment for me.

I’m sure we’d all like it to be cheaper but it is what it is.

  • +2

For this price it better has a soft hole in the back for when I take a break

    • Yeah should have just a manual vibrate function too

  • if i have preordered at original price, will i get given this price come launch?

    • It says preorder price guarantee so it should

  • +2

    Absolutely not at that price.

  • does it come with Sanwa buttons?

  • Why?

  • +1

    $6 chips and $300 controllers, wtf 2023

  • Hows the stick drift on the ps5 controllers?

I have a scuf at the moment and it has been horrendous after not a long period of owning it.
The drift/jerking is crazy. My stick will automatically spin me 90 deg in game due to the drift it has.

Ill never buy a scuf again. So hoping the PS stick end up lasting longer and dont get as aggressive stick drift.

    • +1

First dualsense from launch got drift at 13 months of what I'd call standard use.

Replacement isn't showing drift yet, but time will tell

  • +1

You get a pouch with it and it has a little pouch for your cable. That's definitely worth $300, don't know why all the hate.

  • +1

Even the much cheaper 8bitdo ultimate controller has Hall effect !

  • $339 RRP? What in tarnation!
