Obviously Microsoft trying to clear out the Surface Laptop 4 now that the 5 is out, however, this is a decent price for these specs.

  • Was posted yesterday as part of the Surface 7+ Ebay deal

  • Good price. Similar to BF ebay, inc ebay plus code

  • black friday deal was better

    • How much was Black Friday? I have been tracking this for months and I haven't seen this one lower because of the double discount from ebay and MS.

      • +1

Whoops sorry, its the same price as Black Friday sale.

        I was thinking R5 13inch which was around $910

      • was like $1408 iirc.

  • +3

This is the lowest price you can get for the 4 over the past few mths. Great laptop, jump on this one if you're after one. I managed to get my gst back too as I was travelling overseas so it ended up costing me around $1300.

  • Haven't kept up with surface products but wow, the ports are lacking

    • Yep, shockingly bad for a "premium" device.

      • -6

Not having ports is a good thing for a business laptop. It discourages people from copying/backing up stuff to USB devices.

    • Was about to reply with "surely there's enough"? But yeah… Would have been nice to have a second USB-C. I think it's OK for most 2023 workflows, though you would need a desk dock and a portable for sure.

  • This or Intel Nuc M15?

    • Typically the NUC was down to about $1100, so you're paying about $300/400 more for this.

They're both really great devices and would happily buy either, it would really come down to budget. This one you get a nicer screen and the amd chips were just a better choice for this gen, but you pay more.

      • Intel screen is at least equally good. The question is which screen ratio do you prefer. Intel is better value, because it's cheaper, while being pretty much the same build quality. However, I don't like the M15 keyboard. Still bought it anyway.

  • How bright is the screen?

  • Just be aware this seller is trash. I'm returning a surface now that came defective on arrival. They won't offer a new replacement only refurb. Microsoft claims this isn't an authorised reseller even though it's their own official ebay store.

    • That is very strange. I've had this thing happen exactly before (about 4 years ago) and they replaced no questions asked.

      • I wasted like a week dealing with them through every possible channel and was basically told I can return it or accept a refurb. I was so annoyed because I just wanted a non-faulty laptop.

    • That sucks. I had a surface 3 pro i bought second hand years ago, the screen cracked in my laptop bag and Microsoft replaced with a new one, and sent a free set of pen tips for free as well. Might be the luck of who you speak to.

      • I was told I would get a refurb in no uncertain terms, but I guess it's always possible they would have actually sent out a new one.

    • Wait - the "Microsoft Store Australia" on ebay isn't an authorized reseller … wtf?

It even says in the descriptor: "Welcome to Microsoft Australia's Official eBay Store."

      • +1

Yes I tried to explain to microsoft directly so many times it is their OWN STORE, how can it not be an authorised vendor. I got stone walled time and time again. The ebay vendor actually contravened Australian Consumer law by asking me to go direct to the manufacturer and said they don't hold any stock themselves so were not able to provide a replacement. I guess the stock comes direct from Microsoft warehouses? But then Microsoft themselves said the ebay store wasn't authorised. Nothing made sense.

    • Wait what? This has put me off buying.

They don't recognise their own official eBay store?

      • The returns process is relatively easy but the customer service was woeful for anything other than that. I was mostly pissed because I got this on black friday where there were loads of other deals around, and now I've got to return it and start looking/waiting for a new deal.

    • Strange situation, they probably see the seller as being eBay (not saying that's correct).

The returns process is pretty good. I have returned a few MS laptops over the years and it is quite efficient (whilst it's not a good sign). My most recent return was my Surface Laptop 4, which also had a hairline crack in the screen, which I returned as it bricked when I upgraded to Windows 11. They returned a 'new' one (maybe refurbed, couldn't tell) with no crack, and no questions asked. True to form, I already have another hairline crack already - I dunno what I do wrong, but I don't actually notice it when I'm using it so no biggy.

  • What about a 13 inch windows tablet with fold out clicky keyboard and touch surface and writing stylus. Looking more for portability. Don't care what brand.

    • +1

I have the surface pro 7. Trash battery ~2hrs. ~3 if I do everything as suggested by forums which is unpleasant to use. Weight of tablet + KB + charger is similar to an ultrabook so I'm looking at this purely to get unplugged from the wall. Also found the pen and touch screen didn't end up replacing pen + paper. Hope that helps

  • Great deal, it seems this is the best value, given the Surface Laptop 5's are not significantly any better!

  • -3

Neg for hiding the 3 year CPU in this laptop.

    • +1

Lol, hidden? It's advertised for anyone who does their research.

  • Another guy wrote a forum post on how bad his new surface 5 laptop battery is, only 4 hours!

Microsoft has done a number on the world!

    • wow all the reviews that say this AMD R7 model has great battery life (~12 hours) must be wrong hey!
