I noticed on the Boost website that it now states that 5G will now be permanent - the stipulation is that speeds may be limited depending on what recharge you have.

The website also states that if you have a current recharge, your speeds will be uncapped until your next recharge. So, if you're thinking about activating or recharging your Boost account, it might be a good idea to do so before the 4th of April since that's when the capped speeds kicks in.

We hear you! We are definitely working on it. Stay tuned!

      • this month?

      • Soooo looking forward to this! Please keep us updated.

Lowest capped speed is 150Mbps which is more than enough for me
ridiculously my home internet is not even reaching 150Mbps anyway

    • I'm not even hitting 30Mbps! :(

  • +3

No I don't recharge. I just keep gaining profit by ordering another new sim every month. Thanks CR.

  • +5

Since when have speed tests been unmetered?

    • +4

aslong as you select the telstra server

    • speedtest.telstra.com

  • My Telstra plan is about to finish. If I buy a Boost sim, port the number and then get their 12 month plan, does that mean I'll be uncapped 5G for 12 months?

    • -1

How will your port? They use the same systems.

    • You need to port from Telstra to another provider (Optus/Vodafone), then to Boost. AFAIK you can’t go Telstra > Boost without jumping through some hoops.

      • +6

        @ mortyestmorty.
I had no problem exiting Telstra straight to Boost a year back. Either call them or use online chat.
I just purchased another 12 month sim starter kit and rather than churning out from Boost to another carrier then activating the new sim, i got on to chat and the customer representative just loaded the data onto my existing sim.

        • +2

I did exactly this last November, just had to use their chat instead of the online porting.

          • @jel10: they may screw up sometimes, it tooks me 3 month to get my original number back…..

        • +1

Thanks Goldberg, I’m off to buy a 12 month sim by the looks of it!

          • @mortyestmorty: The only small issue i had was they loaded 130gb rather than 140gb. Another chat session and they corrected on the spot. Good customer services IMO

      • +3

Hi there! We already updated our process for Telstra customers which means they can directly port their numbers to us. Simply follow the steps here: https://boost.com.au/blogs/help-topics/bring-my-number?_pos=…

    • +1

I agree with SpinningPlates. I would port to somewhere not-Telstra first before heading to Boost.

If this helps: I ported my Telstra number to an Amaysim eSIM (didn't even leave home), before porting to a Boost SIM I had purchased late last year.

  • Does boost support visual voicemail?
I am trying to compare the inclusions of the yearly plan ($200gb) with the Optus $59 plan.

      • Boost.com.AU doesn’t show anything regarding visual voicemail. The first page that shows visual voicemail is boost US.

        • +4

I'm with Boost and definitely have VV

    • +4

Yes they do. I went from Telstra to Boost directly last year and wondered this exact question.
All things stayed the same. Kept visual voicemail the whole time. You should be all good.

    • Yeah, works on my Pixel 6 Pro, at least.

  • +1

Does a recharge add cumulative time or does it just restart the clock fresh?

I have over 6 months to go and no real reason to recharge.

    • +2

      Recharge: restarts clock afresh
      Add-on Packs: has it's own timer/expiry, doesn't count as a recharge

  • I'm confused regarding this capped and uncapped speed? Could someone explain it please?

    • +1

Download speeds of files will be slowed to a maximum of 150 megabytes per second (equivalent to roughly 0.15 GB) if you're on the low tier/long expiry plan.
this means if you're saving a 15 GB file from the internet using the Boost SIM data on your mobile phone, it'll now take 15 seconds, instead of less time with "unlimited speed" which only really exists in a perfect world.
Most people don't utilise/need speeds that fast anyway so this shouldn't be an issue for "the average Joe".
edit: Boost refers to the maximum speed as uncapped, which is the correct term to use in this scenario.

Download speeds of files will be slowed to a maximum of 150 megabytes per second (equivalent to roughly 0.15 GB) if you're on the low tier/long expiry plan.

Isn't it 150Mbps, equivalent to 150 Megabits per second, equivalent to 18.75 Megabytes per second?

        • Yeah I'm not a professional on these terms, but the general idea/jist of it is the same xd
(sorry I got them mixed up with wifi speeds)

        • +2

Which is less than a minute to download a gb. Still super quick.

      • understood now, thanks!

  • +1

I am on 300 12month plan, I think my speed will be 150Mps no matter what.

  • I've been using Boost for years, but their 5G is terrible for me (Brisbane). I permanently disabled it on my phone, and it's been much better since.

Maybe will get bettet once they start capping for some users?

    • +1

I'm in Brisbane too and 5G has certainly not been terrible for me. I get 1000/50ish most tests.

      • +1

Re-enabled the 5G now just to run a speedtest. Here are the results:
        Ping: 567ms
        Download: 13.6 Mbps
        Upload: 0.19 Mbps

Disabled 5G, and ran the tests again:
        Ping: 31ms
        Download: 15.5 Mbps
        Upload: 0.27 Mbps

Not a lot of difference in speed, but the ping was ridiculous on 5G.

There's been situations where I was in a place without coverage (indoors) and a friend with Vodafone had full 5G.

I probably won't continue with Boost once my credits expire.

Edit: I am currently in Herston, pretty central, if that matters.

        • +3

To the people that say Boost get the full Telstra coverage.. That might be so.. But they may get say "10% of the bandwidth" whilst Telstra customers get the other 90%.

It's not just about coverage. There are many other factors that affect the experience.

    • +1

When in Adelaide CBD 5G is great, but in my home outer-suburb, 5G speedtest is much lower and ping is much higher than 4G so I keep it off too.

  • An interesting differentiator between Telstra's mothership and the fast-growing MVNO.
Out of interest, I just tested the download speed on Optus 4G and got 309mbps. I think I will stay put for now

  • I am having 5G on boost $300 annual sim and speed is above 700. Not sure what more I will get if I recharge.

    Hi Guys,
    Quick question - I am on Belong $40 (including International addon) for 80GB per month plan at the moment. I use about 40-60GB every month;

I know I can get cheap data transfer on OZB, I don't think it is an option in Boost? How do you buy additional data, and is it cheaper? I can see advantage with Boost is international call included by default and roaming options available.

    • Look on eBay under - belong data

    • What speed do you get on Belong please?

  • Recently “ported” my number from boost to new boost with discount and cash back ( thx OB) nice boost man arranged it in under an hour - the 5g is always more than acceptable ( including indoors Melb - with vastly superior 5g than Optus 5g modem * note however can get 500 mps on the 5g iPhone when in the same room as 5g Optus modem)on iphone12 (battery life not so.Anyway I will buy a recharge ( or another sim ) before April 4
If it all goes belly up there’s always another great OB deal just around the corner🥹

  • Can you piggy back recharges? Ie if you recharge for 12 months and you have 6 month left - do you get 18 months??

    • +1

Nope. If you buy 12 months today your expiry would be 365 days from today.

    $50 28 days 250Mps
    $70 28 days Uncapped
    $100 6 months 150Mps
    $150-$300 12 months 150Mps
I downloaded this from the BOOST Mobile help page, here's the link

  • I went over my 180 Gig Telstra limit so for the missing 12 days I was tossing up between Boost and Belong.
Belong just updated their coverage maps to say I get 5G. 80 Gigs for $35 seemed a deal.
It is crap, less than half the native Telstra speed.
Anyone here that compared Boost with Belong?

  • who has the cheapest prepaid where the data slows down instead of stopping? (slows down to 1.5mbps or something)

  • +1

does this mean 4g speeds will be limited aswell?

    • +1

      Yes.
'capped download speed caps on our 4G and 5G networks as follows'

  • Quite reasonable. Can't see why most people like myself would need more than 150Mbp/s when using phone data.

  • Shame they don't have an unlimited data plan, like Felix or Voda.

  • Just double checking - My Boost 12mths plan expires tomorrow. Can I buy a new sim with 12 mths plan and recharge that way? It's cheaper than auto recharge and some members on the forums have said it can be done over chat or phone. Don't want to buy the SIM if I can't. Will need to buy new sim today. Thanks!

  • Also, I have over 70gb left. If I swap to anew SIM, will that carry over? Or only if I click on recharge? Thanks.

    • +1

Data doesn't rollover from one 12 month plan to another. So either way, you'll lose it.

  • -1

My boost plan is finishing up mid Feb, are we recharge another 12 months of boost or shall we try another provider
