very tempting.. should I pull the pin on this monitor or wait for the DELL 34" one?

    • -1

      Same as me.

    • +1

would also like to get some feedback on this - atm still using a 24 and 23 inch dual screen setup, been wanting to move to ultra wide for ages mainly as I believe should be able to nicely share a two screen feed via Jump RDP from my office to my home office by having it just share as 1 ultra wide screen.

    • Dell 34" was $454 recently. Need to find another Muzeeb at Dell ;)

      • Needs to be dwg version as this and dwg have 144hz.

        • dwg was ~ $550 with student discount iirc.

      • Can someone please tell me who Muzeeb is and what s/he's done? Everywhere I go on ozb, I see the name.

    • Dell for gaming, no question. But this is entry level VA, just the Dell has way better response times for the refresh rate, taking it to playable versus the smeary Xiaomi.

We're in the OLED ultrawide era now.

      • +1

Oh damn, I will organise a redraw on my loan to get an OLED ultrawide :-(

        • They'll be competing at the $1000 pricepoint soon enough, and have been $1300 previously with GSync.

          • +2

            @jasswolf: Nice! How much longer until it's $450 ;-)

            • @onlinepred: $700-$800 by this time next year, but some people buy something like this or the Dell because they think it's not worth reaching further up the stack.

Now it is. Make sense? :)

              • @jasswolf: If it was $700 now it would be worth it! Ah well

                • -6

@onlinepred: Really thrilled to be involved in this comment tree. Did you want to maybe comment on how I preferenced the Dell and the Xiaomi, both down around this price point?

Or did you want to try and drag this comment further into your usual pseudo-intellectual spiel?

                  • +1

@jasswolf: I didn't buy a $455 monitor, because instead I bought a $1300 monitor. Or better yet, I didn't buy a $455 monitor, because in the future at some point a better monitor will be almost double the cost.
                    I'm bored at work :-(

    • Is it likely that the Dell 34" will go back on sale?

    • I think you mean pull the trigger

  • +4

Xiaomi monitor is cheaper at Gearbite eBay for $459.42.

    • +7

      Price Matched

      • Hey hana, its still cheaper unless you got ebay plus

  • What panel is this? VA or IPS? I'm unable to see it on the eBay page description

  • Xiaomi monitor is a beast! absolutely loved it! however it failed after 10months. screen just went black…ended up getting my money back. its a pity… they are pretty awesome!

    • any reason for the black screen? I've read that it has occurred to a few people. I wonder what the probability of it is.

      • Mine's running fine, bought in 2019.

    • Did they say that they need to get it checked by their authorised repairer etc first? Or did you just have to send video/pictures before the refund?
I don't want to be driving halfway down Sydney in case it breaks, or post it at my expense

  • is the monitor light bar lowest price? Anyone have a dual monitor setup with single car mounted on primary screen and this lightbar mounted on secondary screen? Would it even work well with that type of arrangement?

    • +2

is the monitor light bar lowest price

      Nope, has been cheaper previously.

    • single car mounted on primary screen

Any car or a specific model?

      • I meant webcam** Sorry.

  • +1

My brother/sister in christ, whhyyy is everything curved?
Has anyone had any experience using a curved monitor for home office/productivity?

    • +2

I have been using mine predominately for productivity (rarely do I game) for 2 years with no issues. What are your concerns? The curve is quite subtle in practice.

    • +1

      Yes.
      Used this Xiaomi for 2yrs.

Its perfect for excel sheets (that go horizontally long)
      2 docs/sheets side by side.
      Colour was good.
Some videos will have black borders on sides. (Aspect ratio)
Got to remember to turn off smooth scrolling on the browsers, as its already 144hz, further software intervention only makes it worse.
Once you get used to the curve, it "feels" like its not that big any more, started looking at 42" curved, but its a lot more than I want to spend, even thou its work/play.

      • Try check out curved monitors in store. I got massive headaches couldn’t handle it, even after a week

    • I've just upgraded from this Xiaomi monitor to a 4k 42 inch OLED TV as my monitor. I'm actually finding that for gaming, I don't miss the curve as much (though it is definitely better), but for productivity, I miss it much much more. If you tend to use all of the real estate of your screen, I can highly recommend a curved screen for productivity. Without it text at the edges gets a fair bit smaller (at larger monitor sizes like 34 inch and above) and I find myself centering things to make it even.

      • +1

As a counterpoint to this, I definitely do not recommend a curved monitor for productivity if you work with CAD or design. Having any sort of straight line appear not entirely straight will drive you nuts. I only lasted a week with a curved monitor.

        • Great point, in my case I use it for software development

      • Aren't you concerned about burn-in using an OLED for productivity? Just curious.

  • +3

Just sharing my exp with the monitor.

Died just after 2 yrs. Just went black.
    Out of warranty.
By contrast, my 27" Dell ultrasharp from like 10yrs ago, still going strong, used as 2nd screen only since buying the Xiaomi.

So bought another Dell, the G3223D couple of weeks back on a eBay sale.

    • Do you miss the ultrawide screen?

      • I have a laptop now (changed company) and use it with the old Dell ultrasharp.
I do miss have the wide screen space, but its not slowing me down or anything, its more a creature comfort.

Only using the new Dell, for games and media, on my own PC.

  • How do you mount your webcam with the monitor light on top of it?

    • -1

You don't, unless you have the webcam off to the side/on a tripod.

    • I sit the webcam on top of the monitor light no problem. Using a Logitech C930 and it works well.

EDIT: See this image: https://china-gadgets.com/app/uploads/2020/08/Xiaomi_Monitor…. Instead of having the webcam hold onto the top of the monitor, I sit mine so it holds onto the bracket holding the light bar.

      • +1

I've got my Logitech Brio clipped to the top of the light bar bracket and while it works it's very precarious. No problem with my electric air stand desk but if you accidentally touch it, it'll tumble.

  • I picked one of these up at Kmart for $450 in Dec 2020 and it's still going strong. Personally can recommend.

  • +3

This monitor was fantastic for $500-650 2 years ago. Now, not so much - there are better value options IMO.

Funny that half the people in bargain threads throughout 2020 suggested it'd be sub 500 here in Aus 'very soon' and to wait before buying. They were right… kinda

  • For light bar users… are they worth it?

    • I use it along with some smart lights to switch to warmer lights later in the evening, while still keeping the desk well lit in case I'm working on something with my hands. I would only get it if A) you want to increase (and choose the warmth of) the ambient lighting in your FOV so your eyes aren't getting strained by your screen alone, and you don't want to use lamps/other lights, B) you want to have lower lighting at night but don't have a backlit keyboard, so you struggle finding keys when the lights are low (if you do have a backlit keyboard, the light doesn't really make much difference for using it in the dark), or C) you want to make the desk look nice. It does look nice, especially if you have colours other than white/black (e.g. brown/wood).

    • I've got this Xiaomi one. Pretty happy. It saves space on your desk, but mounting a webcam is hit and miss. I like the remote, though it very occasionally needs a second press.

  • +2

quick feedback after nearly 2 years use it,
    - if you scroll the page enough fast you will see the ghosting
    - this monitor is definitely not for gaming because of the response time, especially when you play moba game
otherwise they work fine compare to others 34inch curved monitor

  • This or aoc cu34g2x?

    • +1

      ViewSonic

      • I'm really tempted, specially cause of the local support.

Why would you choose the Viewsonic though?

        • +1

There are lot of reports of this Xiaomi monitor dying within 2 years of use. Also, there is noticeable ghosting (motion blur) too. Viewsonic on the other hand specialises in Monitors with decades of experience making them, while Xiaomi is known to re-badge 3rd party hardware with their own branding similar to Kogan etc.

      • I was going to go with the viewsonic but shipping to vic is $30 and no option for store pickup. Seems they have to come from QLD

  • +3

Hopefully not a dumb question, but what are the pros of a monitor light bar? It looks cool and I feel like I want one, but is turning on the light in the room, or upping the screen brightness, not enough?

    • +1

i was going to ask the same thing, could someone please explain! i suspect more concentrated lighting for the desk/keyboard/webcam face etc

    • +2

      A couple reasons:
      - Much more consistent lighting of the desktop, unlike lights in the roof (which can cause shadows if from behind you) or lights/lamps from the side (which won't be consistent across the desk).
      - Designed to avoid glare on the screen. They aim from above the monitor so you get a well-lit desk, but no glare off the monitor.
      - In the case of the feature-rich ones, the ability to control the brightness and warmth of the light, so you can reduce blue light as you get closer to bedtime.

They're definitely a nice-to-have appliance, but I like the fact that instead of having to use the bright, cold fluorescent roof light in my roof, I can use this along with a couple smart lights to drop the overall intensity of lights in my office to very warm, low-lit lighting. This also means I can drop the brightness on my OLED display, which reduces risk of burn-in of the panel in the long-run.

OLED gaming monitors have arrived to kick TVs off your desk

This is an okay deal, but not much better than what we've been seeing for the last 2 years. OLED appears to finally be coming to monitors.

    2023 Gaming Monitors are Insane.

  • monitor has motion blur and black smearing, i couldnt get over it

  • So eh - what's the genuine use case for the Mi LCD Writing Tablet 13.5"??
    Anyone had experience with one?

    • +1

      Buy first and think later.
My main use was for the kids to do math exercise to save paper , casually some sketch or writing . But , I think it also works well for Pictionary

  • Hi. Is this Xiaomi laptop compatible with Mac? I have Mac mini 2014 model. Thanks.

Been using the Xiaomi 34 Monitor for 2 weeks now. I'm not an expert with monitors. I started WFH after coming a work environment that uses two 24 inch monitors. This is all new to me. Hopefully my initial experience can help someone:

-Pretty impressed with it so far. Been WFH and its definitely an improvement from my old 24 inch monitor.
-The monitor has small bezels and the curved screen really helps me to see sides of the screen without having to turn my head. It does take some time to get use to a curved screen.
-For any wide/curved screen users, i recommend getting Fancyzones. I use 'Fancyzones' with my monitor to customise split screening in multiple ways to suit my workflow. Without Fancyzones, screen sharing is a pain as it the viewer will struggle to see anything due to the resolution.
-I haven't played games on it yet so I cannot provide input for all the gamers out there, but it does have 144hz and freesync based on tech specs.
-I bought it for $420 during the last sale. Other monitors with similar/same specifications started from $530 (at the time). The closest thing to this price was a 34" Dell Curved Monitor but it was listed around $450 but with 100hz. To get the 144Hz version, it would be $100 more.
-I use my monitor with a hdmi splitter as it allows me to switch between my personal computer and work laptop. The issue with using a hdmi splitter or kvm switch is it will adjust the refresh rate to what the splitter/kvm switch can output. I chose the hdmi switch because it allowed me to have a higher refresh rate. The downside is I have to use a separate mouse and keyboard for each device. Kvm switches cost more and allows you to use one keyboard and mouse for your setup, but seems have lower refresh rates - 60hz.
-There are physical buttons behind the right side of the monitor to adjust settings. I never use them apart from during the initial setup.
-Very well package, had no issues with setting up the monitor stand. All straight forward.
-The stand has holes for cable management.

Overall, its been a good product and certainly made WFH an enjoyable experience.

  • Thanks for your summary, very helpful.

On a related note, the monitor is now sold out.
