As per CCC… lowest price ever.

    • +1

I bought at this price on 27 December but it doesnt show on CCC, weird.

      • +2

It is showing, you just need to pull down the date range and check 3rd party too. It will show 😊. Though was through 3rd part seller

    • I got it for $169 on 2021-12-24 but it doesn't show on CCC.

      • WOW

    $199 pick up at MSY/Umart

  • Damnnn not bad! Ty for share

  • Thanks OP, purchased as a spare.

Good deal if you need it right now; however, SSD cost per GB is expected to halve with the 1 terabit TLC NAND die this year.

    • Big +1. At the very least wait for better discounts.

    • that will be incredible, SSD's are already approaching reasonable costs for large capacities

    • +4

Expected by whom and on what basis?

Prices in tech drop (almost always) anyway, but I've never seen sudden drop in market pricing because new technology was invented.

      • +1

But 'wait for price drops' are always upvoted here in ozbargain :p
Someone said 'dont buy TV because CES is next week' and people upvoted even that lol

    • How much do think the 1TB/2TB would likely cost per $1TB?
I like to set a benchmark reminder.

    • For someone currently running mechanical drives(cod MW2 absolutely hates it, get about 20 minutes of in game stuttering until textures fully load then its fine) would you recommend waiting for this? I have already decided on upgrading recently due to the price per gb drop but should I grin and bare a bit longer for this new tech?

      • +2

        What, buy an SSD immediately.

Do not wait a single day longer, you've already been putting up with mechanical drives for 10 years too long !

        • Its not been an issue until MW2 came about, for the extra 30 seconds it takes to boot a game it was a non issue for me. Now it is an issue but if there is going to be better tech this year then its no skin off my nose to wait for an even better deal.

          • @doobey1231: Won't be better tech, just more cost effective. Larger TLC NAND dies usually come with a performance hit, rather than gain, but they do provide a reduction in $/GB.

            • @joshau: Thanks for the response, all I want is cost per gig to go down so works for me, Ill hold off for a bit longer, maybe buy a cheap used SSD for cod while I wait if I absolutely must.

Love a solid solid state drive deal.

  • +1

Good deal but I find that it’s often around this price through both Amazon and other retailers.

  • Which one is better, bx or MX version

    • +5

      MX by a mile

      • Damn, I bought the BX for $170 during black Friday sales. I get frame did when gaming.

        • BX (and just about any drive) is fine for gaming. There's barely any difference in load times between the slowest and fastest SSDs.

      • +2

        Can you explain in kilometres?

        • +10

          MX by 1.60934 km

  • Thanks OP. Picked one up to go into my son's PC build.

  • How low can these prices go?? I think this year will be the last of having a spinning HDD permanently in my PC

    • I honestly didn't know people still used disk drives of any sort

  • +3

Ae these still TLC, or have try already switched to QLC..?

Have a read before you buy. Lots of failures for the mx500 recently. Also if you only need a second drive for storage or games, just get a much faster tlc nvme m.2 without dram for less $ than this.

      This is crucial information. Thanks!

I see what you did there

    • I have a pair of MX500 1TB just over three years old, they haven't failed but wear is 24 and 29% with relatively light use. It seems with these you might be lucky or you might not. In the meantime Samsungs are 1 or 2% wear.

      • I have an old MX300 that is only at 98% wear after 5 years, and i have a year younger MX500 that is at 50% wear (4 years old) with similar usage. I'm pretty disappointed, apparently it's to do with "write amplification", and i'm thinking it's likely a firmware issue.

      • Some of the older MX500 drives had bad firmware that caused excessive wear on the NAND. If you have had it for three years, and haven't updated the firmware, I'd be looking at doing that as it's likely the cause for the large wear on the drive.

        • Hi, thanks, I've checked them and they are on the latest firmware available for them (M3CR023). The drives shipped with this version (it's on the label) so there's never been a time when they didn't have the latest version on them.

How do you guys always manage to talk me out of buying a new ssd even when it’s at an all time lowest price…

    • +3

Feeling the same way! I was about to jump on it to start moving over from mechanical drives but apparently we need to HODL

      • +1

I can't believe anyone is still using mechanical drives for anything other than bulk storage.

        Just stop 😁

        • I built my set up well before it made sense to use SSD for bulk games storage - price per GB wise.

  • +4

Let's hope this isn't the QLC variant that's mixed in with the TLC.

  • Fueling my unhealthy habit to keep expanding storage instead of deleting stuff…

    • Hey as someone that improved my habits and deleted a lot of data I didnt need, the grass isnt that greener over here.. Its hard to justify buying storage now that I dont need it, but that is sad in its own way :(

  • Is there an eBay equivalent deal where I can use my $25 voucher? :/
