Do New TV's Have Picture in Picture?

Hello,

We are looking to upgrade our 10 year old (48 inch) TV. I am wondering if the smart TV's have the ability to display Picture in Picture (I think it’s called) similar to how the Netflix app works on an iPad and you can view 2 things at once. I thought this might be handy for gaming and watching the cricket at the same time.

The man in Betta Electrical thought that smart TV's did not offer this functionality.

So, my question is, is this doable and if so how? We are looking to spend under $1000 only on new TV.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Haven't seen this feature for a long time…
According to Sony, none of their current models have it:

Perhaps there are some of the lesser known brands/models that do

That's a 90s feature that has fallen by the wayside.

Also, it's been proven time and time again that humans can't do two things at once.

Either game or watch the cricket.

    • Husband wanted to watch cricket whilst son gamed. Son is quite interested in cricket too but thinking about it he won’t be doing both at same time. Better to set the spare TV up on the odd occasion they want to do both.

in this day and age of smart tech surely it would be easier to just have the cricket streaming on an ipad or even a phone?

  • Just play the game then watch the 15min match highlights after :)

    gaming and watching the cricket

The main issue will be an degrade for your gaming experience. its still a single panel and one half cant be optimized for gaming and the other for streaming.

    • Thanks, didn’t think of this

  • Smart features exist to advertise to you and nothing else. Just watch it on another screen while you play.

Do New TV's Have Picture in Picture?

    • Son wants Kayo so I will look into this as well, thanks

If you're with Foxtel or Telstra, you may be able to get it for free or at a discount. Worth checking.

If you're upgrading, you'd have a spare tv, cricket on there and new tv with better graphics for gaming ;)

    • Thanks, I think we will do this.

      • Also, it wasn't a tongue in cheek comment haha.

I used to live in a place with a wide living area. We had 2 tvs on the long tv unit - 32" and 48"
You can watch 2 things at once or someone else in the house can watch something else in the living room at the same time!

  • We are looking to spend under $1000 only on new TV.

Feature available back when 32inch TVs were over $4k and alternatives were pricy.

Now you can get a few TVs or stream via other devices like others have said.

Designer probably can’t be bothered as you are only paying under $1k and people complain about inflation.

Just like 3D and curved TVs, PIP is pointless and deserves to die.

  • Thanks all for your time in replying, since it’s not possible for PIP we will just set the old TV up when we want to watch both at the same time.

we will just set the old TV up when we want to watch both at the same time.

Or you can just use a phone, ipad, tablet, laptop etc.
