Philips Perfect Care GC9240 Steam Station - $367 + Shipping (RRP $599)

90

After reading the glowing CHOICE first-look article and now the Steam station's report I wanted to find the GC9240

This was way below RRP and a fair bit cheaper than the next cheapest

CHOICE review of Steam stations here:
http://www.choice.com.au/reviews-and-tests/household/laundry…

The GC9240 got 92.5% second only to a $899 Laura Star Evolution G4 746 that got 93%

Another steam sale? My wallet is hurting.

  • I read that review differently.
I took from the best buy section is that the Russell Hobbs Steam Central RHST102 got 90% & the Tefal Easy Pressing GV5245 got 88%, but both cost $250 (rrp I assume). So I'd try & bargain those two models, since their rating is very close but more than half the price.

    • I didn't go on percentage really but more on the features. The steam power from the GC9240 was so much greater than the others that it'll mean faster times on things like linen. Also the other big feature for us was the ability to iron any fabric without changing a single setting. Iron linen then silk.

    • The Tefal Easy Pressing is available here for $75. Model is GV5240 versus GV5245 reviewed by Choice but they look similar and have comparable specs.

I picked one up, it's excellent unit. The pressure of steam output is excellent. Feels like I'm ironing on an air-hockey table. Blasted through my washing and destroys any creases in its path. Little bit clumsy to setup compared to the GC7330 and doesn't have a steam lock function, but happy with it overall.

  • I got one a couple of months ago when Philips was giving out $100 gift voucher. I can certainly say that it is sooooo good. Cut the ironing time to less than half and can iron all sorts of materials without touching a dial. I almost look forward to ironing… One pitfall though, when using the steam station, make sure the ironing table cloth is a good one (ie: non absorbent), as the abundance of steam tends to condense in the ironing board's cloth/foam/frame and if you do iron for a long time, tends to drip. Maybe I am just too overzealous in pressing the trigger to release the steam! Good luck.

  • we've had a philips steam station (similar to this, just different colour) for a year now, bigw had them for $399 reduced to $199

great units, a lot lighter than normal irons, and far better value than laura star

i dont do the ironing, but the person who does the ironing says its a lot easier to use and lighter than the previous standard irons
