    My grandma is with Medibank and I'm her authorised representative, I received a letter last week saying that the following types of data have been stolen, and released on the dark web:
    * first and last name
    * gender
    * DOB
    * email
    * address
    * phone #
    * policy #

    Then they give me a bunch of usesless tips like changing PWs and phishing attacks and suspiciuos numbers and emails. Yes, very helpful.

    And then they tell me to use their Cyber Response Program which is completely useless. Then there's more useless Goverment advice, and numbers for Lifeline and Beyond Blue (great services btw, but not gonna help get my data back). I don't even use Medibank, I'm just an authorised rep for my grandma. And now all my shit is stolen.

    SO (profanity) MEDIBANK, ALL MY HOMIES HATE MEDIBANK

        There's an old saying in Tennessee—I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee—that says, fool me once… shame on… shame on you
        Fool me—can't get fooled again.

        Fool me one time, shame on you
        Fool me twice, can't put the blame on you
        Fool me three times, (profanity) the peace sign
        Load the chopper, let it rain on you

    Pathetic try Medibank. Why did i receive 17(!) calls from a scammer yesterday evening, claiming to be from Telstra, and trying to get me to reset my TelstraID and to transfer my phone number? She quoted my personal details, including a unique email address that i used to use with Medibank to demonstrate her bona fide.
    I will only rejoin Medibank when my personal data is no longer in the public domain. How long will I be waiting?

    Thank you OP for the post which I'm sure was made in good faith.

    For those burned by the Medibank data breach or AHM data breach, there are at least two potential class actions. Of course that involves sharing your data to register:

    Not even considering my lost data through the data breach. I paid a huge premium for two years to have a corporate cover. When i needed a basic thing, i checked my policy. The same cover advertised online had almost everything included. But my policy cover through the app showed almost everything was excluded. Two years of being sold a fraud policy with literally no cover at all. I have switched to HCF and at the same level of cover, it actually has everything included. Dodgy as $%&@. Stay away!

    • Sounds like you didn't do your homework. I've never had an issue with their cover.

      • I did. Not sure when they changed the policy as it was not the document i had when i signed up.

    No deal with the cost of data leaking.

  • What does 30,000 points get you anyway?

    • $300 in gift card, dunno from where

    • +2

      a few of their rewards you can redeem are:

      10,000 points:
      - $100 extras limit increase
      - $100 adidas/amcal/brooks/fitbit/hellofresh gift card

      20,000 points:
      - $200 extras limit increase
      - $200 adidas/amcal/brooks/fitbit/hellofresh gift card

      22,000:
      - airpods (2nd gen)

      25,000 points:
      $200 premium payment

      29,000 points:
      - airpods (3rd gen)

      40,000 points:
      - airpods pro (2nd gen)

      over 40,000 points (and up to 110,000points):
      - apple watch (ranging from SE models to series 8 cellular models)

      I've only redeemed an adidas gift card in the past but there were some notes:
      - apparently it expires within 3 months of getting it (even though the expiry on the gift card says otherwise, medibank fine print says it expires after 3 months), don't know which is true.
      - if you only use a partial amount on the gift card, the balance does NOT remain on the gift card as the gift card can only be used once.
      - the gift card is a COUPON CODE which means you cannot stack with other offers

      having said all of this, whatever they offer, it is not worth signing up to this company given how they handled the data breach.

    (profanity) Medibank.

  • I’m holding off joining until they resume the partnership with Velocity, although $300 of gift cards sounds alright

    • +1

      Why not both? Take up whatever offer is available now, then take up the next one.

      Sure, there'll be an exclusion period as there is with the present offer ('and who have not held Medibank health cover in previous 60 days'), but you should still be able to take up the subsequent offer.

        There's a chance theres a long wait on points.

        Live Better points could take up to 10 weeks from the policy start date to be loaded to the policyholder’s Live Better account. Singles and single parents will receive 15,000 Live Better Points, and families and couples will receive 30,000 Live Better Points.

        • There's a chance theres a long wait on points

          But that wait will always exist.

      • I'll was going to cycle to Medibank after Bupa but might try QF first. Although you raise a decent point.

        • +1

          qantas is one of the best to churn if you sign up for the cheapest policy, change to the most expensive before day 60 for max points. then use the 30 day cooling off to undo the upgrade. i try and hit it every 6 months

        • oh and canstar generally have a good roundup of all the offers

          https://www.canstar.com.au/health-insurance/health-insurance…

    • $300 sounds good but you are restricted to their partners, Specsavers, Adidas, Amcal, Brooks, Fitbit, Hellofresh and some apple watches, airpods and beats.

      I got a $200 fitbit voucher last year but there were issues using it so they credited the points back as a goodwill gesture. Was still able to use the voucher too.

    Medibank are awful.

    I called them to speak to their retention team, first person cold transfers me back to the queue after 5mins of hold, then second person picks up and is unaware that I've been transferred, so I explained to them again, they said they would look into it and put me on hold, after 2 hours of hold, nobody got back to me during that time. I ended up calling again on another phone to speak to someone who finally got me through to the retention team.

    Their customer service is as good as their security it seems. I hope nobody has to ever call them because I've never dealt with a company that just indefinitely left me on hold for 2 hours.

    • After 10 minutes, I would've hung up and lodged a complaint.

    What about existing customers?

      free data breach just like optus

    • The best deals are available when you change providers.

  • Aw hell naw!

  • Massive (understatement) data leak. Why would anyone trust them with your personal information all for 30,000 pts?

    • because my data has already been leaked lol, can't be leaked twice. wasn't even a customer at the time.

      • you absolutely can provide higher fidelity leaked data than previously, but hey, to each their own.
