Will My Car Warranty Be Void if I Get a Cosmetic Repairs outside?

I have a 2 year old car and I damaged its front grill with my other car accidentally.
The number plate is off (some damage to bumper) and some scratches on front nose

I have luckily never needed a car repair in the past, so have limited knowledge on car warranties.
Not sure if I should take it to the dealership or get it repaired at a local shop. Just worried about warranty.

Doesn't impact warranty. Take it where ever you like.

It can impact any extended warranty.

It depends (and best to check warranty papers/contract to be sure).

        Generally speaking…

"If you repaired your vehicle at a non-approved repair facility which led to further damage to your vehicle, your warranty claim might be denied."

That was what i found when asking google RE : extended warranty.

It will only affect the warranty on the bits affected by the repair. If you repair the bumper then the bumper won't have a warranty, but then the transmission or stereo dies they can't blame the unrelated repair for that.

The bumper will still have a warranty unless a subsequent defect is caused by the repairs (or the repairs didnt prevent a defect which would have been prevented had the repair been done properly). As cited above, its only if the repair caused subsequent damage

In other words, if the OP takes the car in for a future warranty repair (say rust on a nearby panel) and the manufacturer says 'it wouldnt have rusted had the repair been done correctly', then no warranty. However, if the rust would have happened regardless of the repair then the rust still covered by the warranty.

        …too late to avoid impact.

Dealership won't repair it, they also send them to panel beaters.

    Get them to recommend one.

Small cosmetic damage won't affect your mechanical warranty.

    • Thanks. yes dealership suggested some body shop.

Depends on the parts that are covered under warranty.

just tape back the number plates covering the bumper damage and buff up the scratches

    • Thanks, Any tips on best ways to buff up scratches on front bar apart from the bumper

The safest option would be to make a mention of it during your next service and to ensure the service advisor makes a note of your concern on the repair order. Something along the lines of "check for minor impact damage to front bumper near number plate". Odds are the dealership will say it's cosmetic damage only and may quote for a repair. The repair may or may not be in-house, and the price may or may not be reasonable, so you'll need to get some quotes beforehand. Alternatively, they may report back with whatever damage they find (e.g., sensors, lights) and quote a repair. In both cases, the main thing here is that you've reported it, and they know it, and there is a black-and-white record of it on the repair order, so there can be no ifs or buts for future warranty claims. For example, suppose there is a future service bulletin regarding the LIDAR transceiver or ambient air temp sensor. In that case, there may be a case for them not to carry out the repair under warranty if they think there is pre-existing (repaired or un-repaired) damage caused by the customer.

    • Thanks, makes sense. Great tip.
