Heaps?
The Toyota 86 for example?
why does it matter anyway if it is made in Japan? The fact that it is made in Japan, does not give you the credibility that the cars will be better
i refuse to buy any cars made in PRC
Most of them are technically either made in PRC or by PRC - most spare parts are sourced from PRC.
What I am trying to say is, not everything made in Japan will give you the extra credibility you are trying to get - though I do have to admit, Japan's fruits are so good.
Thanks for the neg
How about cars made from parts from China?
Don't poke the grizzly
@andresampras: What about grizzlies made in China?
It does actually, big quality difference between Japanese cars made in Japan and Japanese cars made in Mexico.
Toyotas, Hondas and Mazdas made in Japan much better quality than cars made in other countries UNLESS you want a money pit and warranty nightmare.
source?
friend just got an Eclipse Cross Mitsubishi, manufactured in Japan is what he has been told.
What does it say on the VIN plate under the bonnet?
I was curious too, so did a rego look up on a random Eclipse Cross that is listed for sale.
The first 3 characters are JMF, so I guess what they have been told is correct.
This takes me back to the legalities of putting "made in xx" on certain products.
I was in the bike industry and there's a high end brand that would plaster "Made in Italy" on their bikes and charge ridiculous prices. They'd make the frame in China, ship it to Italy and then paint it there.
There was a whole court case surrounding the ability for the brand to chuck the label on the bike when the actual bike wasn't made in Italy.
Long story short, the company won as they argued painting it added 50% of the value to the bike.
From then on i really don't trust "Made in xx" branding.
Oh and OP the parts on the car will more than likely be majority Chinese made anyway.
Why? If you are against the PRC are you against Thailand or other countries making vehicles?
Just pick a brand from Japan if you must, many of the parts will come from China anyway.
I'm finding many parts are now made in Vietnam.
…..which has a big Chinese presence.
hmmmmmmmm
Suzuki swift
Subaru. All of em
the only real answer. and Subaru is also one of the very few independent car makers (however seems Toyota has a minor share).
The 10th gen Honda Civics we got here were built in Thailand, but for the new 11th gen Australia only gets the hatch model which is now built in Japan again.
Lexus… AFAIK, all of them, though the small ones, may be from elsewhere…
I have an IS 350 F Sport and it's never missed a beat.
Being Japanese made does make a difference in Quality.
abit racist OP
How is it racist for the OP to say they 'refuse to buy any cars made in PRC'? The OP never said anything about a particular race or group of people.
I'm guessing it's for political reasons i.e. they don't want to provide indirect support for the communist party.
you are probably thinking that it is assembled in japan, you are kidding yourself if you think most of those parts aren't from china.
Given that the OP is looking at a budget / entry-level car e.g Civic, I bet that the OP's house is full of things made in the PRC - knowingly or unknowingly.
Funny thing is that the new Civic is far from budget or entry level
It may not be, but it feels like it, I mean, $50k for a car these days seems like the entry price.
If people pay for that which they will (thank you stupid people) it will definitely become the norm.
Civic was just an example of model that I know for sure isn't manufactured in Japan so your assumption of looking at budget / entry-level was incorrect.
Civic is now made in the ‘Land of the rising sun’!
Easy to find for yourself.
Choose a make/model.
Google for details.
Then…read.
Please own up and share your Neg reasons.
Mazda CX-8 is made in Japan, we are in the market for one.
Toyota anything except Kluger & Hilux/Fortuner
But good luck finding new car stock
The bigger question is, what do you want powering it?
